bluegrassmom
My husband got a lead on a job today and it's in Kansas City. I don't know a thing about the state, much less know about areas out in the boonies I would want to live in within driving distance of Kansas City. (He currently drives 2 hrs. one way, so we're used to long distances from work.) It looks like it's right on the Missouri state line. Maybe that would be a better direction? I don't know. We have pretty much had things for our move planned out for within the next year or so. Knew right where we were going and now this. I don't know yet though if anything will come of it, but then again I don't know that it won't. I would just to start to get some feel for the area just in case. Link to comment

TheCG
The city's site on living on the MO side of KC: http://www.kcmo.org/manager.nsf/web/kcliving?opendocument Someone asked a forum about suburbs (again, on the MO side): http://www.city-data.com/forum/kansas-city...kc-suburbs.html Some info on KC, KS here: http://www.city-data.com/forum/kansas/ The city-data forums look rather useful - lots of people are asking about moving into the area. Snowmom
I did some looking up too, but didn't get a chance to put it in the other day. Missouri is bordered by Arkansas on the south, Oklahona, Kansas and Nebraska on the west, Iowa to the north, Illinois and Tennessee to the east. The people there are friendly. There are a LOT of hills in Missouri. I don't think there are really any boonies close to Kansas City. But, there is a Boonville in Missouri, not to far from Kansas City. You can check these sites out and see if there is any information there you are interested in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missouri http://www.infoplease.com/atlas/state/missouri.html http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?BFCat=&am...t%A0Map=Get+Map Hope to hear about what you decide on. Granny
Quote: Dorthy and Todo lived there! Ummm... that was Toto Westie! Bluegrassmom, check demographics, crime rates, property tax rates, different state laws and such. I'm thinking OK doesn't have property tax but too far south. IA, KS, NE if not in MO. KC is big city, 40th in US. Independence, MO is close by. Here's comparison of crime rates for those two. http://independencemo.areaconnect.com/crim...+city&s2=MO Link to comment
Vic303
I grew up in the area of Lawrence for about 40 yrs, and only moved to TX in 2003.... I can highly recommend a particular area to move to if you want country, but only an hour commute or so... feel free to PM me. --Vic Link to comment
Mt_Rider
Excelsior Springs, MO...just outside KC, MO..... It's nice. Great veggie gardens!!! Lotsa hills. My friend lives there with goats, sheep, chickens, donkey, horse, a sister to my cat, ....and that Mt Lion that officials say does not exist but she has pics. Don't know commute range but it's fairly close. They do rather regularly get pounded by summer storms and the ice storms in winter. MtRider. Link to comment
Cat
I'd be looking into tax rates, home prices, services, schools (even if you're not using them... a good school system with happy "patrons" mean better life, usually), crime rates, etc. Missouri and Kansas are both close in climate and it looks like you could go either way for home life. Maybe he wouldn't need to drive so long this time!! May the decision end up a good one, either way... Link to comment
