May I make a suggestion?

The board I run is a VBulletin board. It's got incredible capabilities and control for the admins. I love it.

And one nice little feature is that it allows people to purchase subscriptions through Paypal or other online means. So folks could use that as a way to donate a little bit each month if a once-a-year donation is too much for them.

Westie, well said.

Darlene, here's some chocolate...I've a feeling you need it.

chocobun

One of the forums my DH belongs to has an annual fee of $20 for access to 'members only' spaces. This is reasonable and payable via PayPal. This is strictly site maintenance only. A downside about PayPal is that they DO take a CHUNK of money for 'handling' your money. I'd much prefer to send a check or M.O.

Also, have you looked into an LLC? In a Limited Liability Corporation, partners kick in a base amount and then this amount supports the business. This way, not all the decisions and work are shouldered by one person, nor is one person left with all the expenses. Ground rules can be written, but it does a good job of letting everyone play nicely together in the sandbox.

A LLC does limit those with no funds...but $20 a year for an ANNUAL membership to members only access...small potatoes. Also, remember you could have levels of membership....

Just my opinion...

Thanks for your thoughts C4C, but MrsS will stay the way it is. I don't believe in charging anyone around here, in fact I react strongly against it in my heart.

The way I see things, we're heading into some really difficult days ahead and we hafta share as much as we can, while we can, till we can't anymore, with others so that they can take care of themselves and their families. I believe in that very strongly so until I go home to be with the Lord and will this site to everyone lol, that's the way it'll stay.

Like I said, the normal operating costs on this site aren't much at all. I can still do alot myself, maybe all, maybe not...life here is not real stable right now, but I do know for a fact I can keep the site afloat, even if it's at the bare minimum with what we have. But, looking into the near future and seeing some things that need to be done to insure the stability of the programming and site puts things into a category where I can't necessarily do it right now.

I don't know if I'm making any sense lol. But MrsS is a free site and always will be...as to the other, we can (and I guess we are) discussing that now.

Like Westie said, I'd like to donate anonomously, if I can. I don't care for community forums online, and before I found this one, there was only one other site I ever posted at before. That place was different from all other sites I'd ever been to before, a really special place.

Then I found this one. It has the same "feel" to it, even tho this one is public and the other one was private. Plus this site has so much information!! My word! This site is like having another mother to go to for advice and knowledge and wisdom.

Plus, I can play in the Out House, and my mother won't talk about those kinds of things. Well, she won't *discuss* those things...it's her way or the highway. LOL

OK. Off topic again.

I'd like to donate anonomously. Partly to show my appreciation for this place. Also, tho, to make sure Darlene has the funds to make sure it is as stable as she would like it to be.

"Darlene... in this case.. it is NOT about you..it is about US! so don't think about this money as weird to use.. *you* are using *our* money on *us*!!!"

That's it exactly, think of it as much like when a momma uses Grandma's Christmas donation to buy needed winter coats for her babies.

I approve of this message.....

OK stubborn if we want to donate can we just send you the money and you put it in a kitty until you get enough to help with the upgrades? Some of us would really would like to help it may not be much maybe just five dollars or so but some of us would like to donate something towards the upgrade.

Darlene, I'd like to make a suggestion. I started a blog a year ago and also did it for free as a way to contribute to society. My blog benefits diabetics. One day I received an email from a large pharmaceutical company offering to sponsor me to give cooking and baking demonstrations to the public. Next I received an offer for a book contract with a cash advance. I'm sure you could easily turn your knowledge and all of the info on the site into a book. I'm also sure the book would sell like hotcakes due to today's perilous times. If you'd be interested in going this route, I'd be happy to lend my assistance to get you started.

Trip... I love you too!

but.. this is what I really want to say...

WE are going to put up a Donation button and that is that!

end of subject!

no memberships.. no levels... nothing will change except a donation button! besides it would be nice to be able to send Mountain Mommy a Chocolate Turkey as a gift of thanks! (since it did break in the fall!.. had it broke in the winter a chocolate santa and so on!.. rumor has it MM loves chocolate!)

there would be no arguing, no conversation, no putting it out there.. a donation button would appear quietly.

and that is that!

but..NOooooo! I have to mamby pamby, be nice, show darlene the cob webs in the chicken coop, hand her the broom and do an end run, tire her out to get her to say ...o.k.!

I'm sure Darlene is alot smarter and more sensible than I am smile

paypal can be a very generic account, and a po box is also secure. (I even have my po box in a town 30 miles from my home- how tin foil hat am *I*?) tinfoil

You are so smart! I can't believe I never thought of that! tinfoil

I vote for freewill contributions. I like that the site is free becase some of the posters with a wealth of knowledge to share may not have a wealth of funds to spend. I'm willing to chip in (after all, spreading the wealth around is a good liberal thing to do grin).

One suggestion: you could sell some Mrs. S. merchandise as a fundraiser in addition to accepting donations. You can do it online thru www.cafepress.com (I have no connection with them). You do the degisn stuff, when someone orders an item they make & ship it, and you charge above their base price to make a profit. Or just google "custom _________" Here's someplace you can get custom bags for $2.95 each (plus shipping). http://www.logosoftwear.com/product/7778
Who wouldn't like an official Mrs. S BOB for the car? (contents not included)

I know that I don't post a lot here...but I am here a lot! This site (and you) means so much to so many! I know that you are a giver and have given so much to the site and all of us. It is hard for a giver to be given to, but let us become givers to you, please. I know that you have blessed all of us by giving as you do. Now, we just want to bless you.

Sorry if I offended anyone with my opinion. Certainly didn't mean to, was just sharing what some people do. I totally respect the choice for 'free' information. It's what drew me here in the first place.

I think freewill donations are great. I will be making a donation in one way or another. grin

Hey Westie... where's the button? rofl

Oh...and do remember that Mrs S. does have a resource for custom embroidery, kitchen towels, and t-shirts and such. wink
