    NO CAN OPENERS???

Have lots of can openers...and make sure you get good ones. I made the mistake of buying some cheapie ones and they are too hard to turn.
  3. We're going to be moving some time before summer...after 14 years in this 3br, 2b with a 4 room garage conversion. Try and imagine how much stuff you can have with that much room... And we want to be ready to move with a 30 day notice if we find a place sooner than summer. We started a couple weeks back tossing what is really unnecessary. As much as I don't want to move, this is a good process. We're getting rid of stuff I knew we should've gotten rid of years ago...just never got around to it. So, it's been toss, donate and reorganize. We actually have some empty shelves! Dh and I had to have a conversation about how I am taking my prepping stuff...he's having a hard time looking at my bags of canning jars I got through freecycle, and the candles, and..... Guess I'll have to fill the jars with food...he doesn't have any issues with moving jars of food. I really needed this kick in the pants to get my prep stuff organized. I put my pressure canner in an 18 gallon tote with funnels, jar lifters, boxes of lids, etc inside the canner. My ball Blue book is next to it. Also put in the vaccuum sealer with parts and bags as well as the pump-n-seal. I'll see if I can post pictures later. In another 18 gal tote I have candles...most were freebies through freecycle. I have a smaller tote with lamps, lamp oil, wicks, and matches (in jars). I really like this because when I need something it's all together and in one place...not scattered all over kingdom come. So, far that's all I've done. My goal is to get in the habit of doing a little each day.
  4. Yep! Isn't this so exciting!
  5. Hi Stephanie! How did you get the Valentines skin for your page?
  6. I'm really excited about this blogging area. We're going to be moving in a few months....this is my space to keep track of our progress in our move and how I'm going to keep prepping in the mean time. I decided to title it Bloom Where You Are Planted because I'm learning that being prepared is not necessarily about where you are, it's about what you know and how you can adapt it to any situation. Do I think we will end up on a lot of acreage with animals, etc? At this point in my life maybe not. But, I do know that there are many, many things I can be doing in my situation to be prepared. Welcome to MY world!
  7. One of my favorite things to do is get up early and take the dog for a walk at the park behind my house before anyone else is up. Sometimes the sky is so blue and the trees look so green they don't look real. Abby is so happy to be running around it just relaxes me to sit in the middle of the grass and watch her play. I also like sitting in the middle of the garden and look at what's growing (course right now the garden is not looking so good). Dh and I also like going to the movies together to relax. And there is this online game I have been known to play when I need to shut down my brain called Poppit. Luna, those are some pretty spots...
  8. Thanks Cat! Now I need to go buy some canned biscuits.
  9. can I use regular salt in place of the canning salt?
  10. Yep, that would be her....
  11. I never saw this one before....
  12. Not exactly how I see myself....although it puts me in the right career.... Your Type is ISFP Introverted Sensing Feeling Perceiving 44% 12% 38% 11% You are: moderately expressed introvert slightly expressed sensing personality moderately expressed feeling personality slightly expressed perceiving personality Artisan™ Portrait of the Composer (ISFP) More than the other Artisans, Composers are in tune with their senses, and so have a sure grasp of what belongs, and what doesn't belong, in all kinds of works of art. While the other Artisans are skilled with people, tools, and entertainment, Composers have an exceptional ability-seemingly inborn-to work with subtle differences in color, tone, texture, aroma, and flavor. Although Composers often put long, lonely hours into their artistry, they are just as impulsive as the other Artisans. They do not wait to consider their moves; rather, they act in the here and now, with little or no planning or preparation. Composers are seized by the act of artistic composition, as if caught up in a whirlwind. The act is their master, not the reverse. Composers paint or sculpt, they dance or skate, they write melodies or make recipes-or whatever-simply because they must. They climb the mountain because it is there. This ability to lose themselves in action accounts for the spectacular individual accomplishments of some Composers, and yet on their social side they show a kindness unmatched by all the other types. Composers are especially sensitive to the pain and suffering of others, and they sympathize freely with the sufferer. Some have a remarkable way with young children, almost as if there were a natural bond of sympathy and trust between them. A similar bond may be seen between some Composers and animals, even wild animals. Many Composers have an instinctive longing for the wilds, and nature seems to welcome them. Composers are just as plentiful as the other Artisans, say nine or ten per cent of the population, but in general they are very difficult to observe and thus greatly misunderstood. Very likely the difficulty comes from their tendency not to express themselves verbally, but through their works of art. Composers are usually not interested in developing ability in public speaking, or even in the art of conversation; they prefer to feel the pulse of life by touch, in the muscles, in the eyes, in the ears, on the tongue. Make no mistake, Composers are just as interested as other types in sharing their view of the world, and if they find a medium of non-verbal communication-some art form-then they will express their character quite eloquently. If not, they simply remain unknown, their quietness leaving their character all but invisible. Bob Dylan, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Cher, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Mel Brooks, Steven Spielberg, and Neil Simon are examples of a Composer Artisans.
  13. I was in Safeway yesterday and saw banana slicers hanging from the shelves. A banana slicer! For real! http://www.amazon.com/HUTZLER-57l-Banana-S...r/dp/B000MSA9AQ
  14. This one gets my vote. They look nasty. First of all frozen bread. then frozen peanut butter. I am pretty sure when they are thawed they get mushy... BARF!!! And Momo you right about the price. For $3 you can buy a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter and get 3 times as many sandwiches and they are fresh, not frozen. I can tell you about those sandwiches. A year ago the not too bright person in charge of our districts food service decided we weren't capable of spreading the peanut butter on the loaves of bread for snack time for the little ones in my classroom (we're not trained in food service procedures...ya know...wash your hands...use gloves...that sort of thing). They started sending us those individual sandwiches (thawed). Most of the kidlets don't like them. Some will eat them because they are hungry and there's nothing else to serve them at that time. The bread is like a sponge and the peanut butter doesn't fully soften up and the glob of jelly is just that...a glob of jelly right in the middle of the sandwich. Fortunately there is another lady who listens when we tell her what the kids don't like and only sends them to us every now and then.
