  1. MtRider If you are have back spasms please back off the exercises. It has taken me years to get away from spasms that would through me to the floor. I do not know what has caused your back problems but I know it is the only back you will have!! You know what hurts , to me pain and hurting are 2 different problems. Pain is a warning!! Here is a video of exercises you might can do -ONCE your back has healed from the spasms. I know I could not do all of these exercises but that is due to MY back problem. http://www.webmd.com/back-pain/lower-back-pain-10/slideshow-exercises Ann glad you got home safe...driving is definitely a calorie burner! Outguessing the other driver... gofish this is fantastic! I read Revival started in Texas I wonder how it did down there? Every state should do this ,every community.
  2. Besides all the work in the house yesterday - going to have to put a walking meter on me- which also included climbing on the stool to reach the top shelves, hanging clothes on the line, we went on our walk through the woods. Since Wilhe (cat) went with us and demanded to be carried twice....... I had 12 extra lbs. Not being on the path we do not go the same way twice and came out a different way from yesterday. We did stop and watch in awe as a huge flock of turkeys crossed in front of us .There must have been at least 30 and all looked to be mature. That was the only break we had and the rest of the way before we turned toward home was very rough. So I am getting a work out in different ways and did not get my wall push ups done. I do not feel any different after I do them so I think I am mostly in tone that way. If I bring in the wood they brought last night........ I will really have all the exercise I can tolerate for the day.
  3. I am doing the wall pushups, and will try the counter pushups as well. I have never been able to do the floor push ups.. I think it may be due to the curvature of my spine. I need to go back to the abdomen exercises... laying on my back raise my legs straight up slowly and just as slowly lower them..... or lay on my back and pedal i am walking....not fast for I am walking in the woods around this, under that, as I no longer have a path to walk on. This is from from short steep rises and down steeper or less to gentle rolling land, over or around downed timber. When Joy gets where she can walk further , I will go back to the two miles on the road, and increase it to the 5 miles or either walk with out her but she needs the exercise.
  4. Keep this thread going daily to see how we do? I want to try it but I too would need to be reminded until I get on schedule.
  5. I think the Presto we used from wee childhood must have been a 2-3 qt. I wonder if my DS took it because that is about the time i"disremember" it. I know it did not go to my husband's house. I will keep an eye out for one, but most I have seen are horribly pitted or abused one way or another
  6. That is the type of bean(at least) cooking I am used to -the Presto cooker- which for whatever reason ,I can not remember, I do not still have. I was raised on Presto beans and ham hocks. I just decided to use the crock pot which I am not fond .....now it does make a fantastic monkey or pull apart bread.........
  7. Rutabaga- what a wonderful blessing!!!!!
  8. Thanks , Amber I think I will err on the side of caution and dispose of the beans. Not that we are having a heat wave here.... and the house is a comfortable temp for me of around 67-68.
  9. Put fresh or non composted manure on in the fall, cover with leaves ,grass clippings , straw, etc if you do not till it in. Or make compost with the above and spread it on the garden in the spring. Rabbit litter is the only manure I never composted and put directly in the garden around the plants and have planted directly in straight rabbit litter. Chicken litter will burn the plants unless used sparing or composted. If you have applied too much chicken litter ,for instance, though you may raise excellent corn which is a heavy feeder, tomatoes and some other crops will produce lots of leaves and no fruit. Squash and melons require more fertilizer.
  10. Beans were soaked 4-6 hours , drained and water added. Ham hock was frozen but fully cooked/smoked. We both ate the beans, and later the ham hock which did not bother either if us. I feel it was the beans as they seemed to be slightly sour which is the reason I am asking about overnight cooking on low.
  11. This is something I have rarely ever done....so do not know a lot about it. But I put beans and a ham hock in the crockpot and let them cook over night. Was this a no no? The dog ate some and throwed up several times, my gut got messed up. Just a coincidence or beans should not be cooked overnight on low?
  12. I sauteed some rice, added 1 raw frozen hamburger patty 1 med. onion a handful of dried mushrooms, 1/2 cup of dried English peas 1 1/2 cups of whole canned tomatoes 1/2 cup of my home canned tomato sauce Added a little Mozarella cheese to the hot dish.... good.. will do me for several meals!
  13. Now available in Brazili an supermarkets... Here is your laugh for the day......... <G>
  14. I just checked on craigslist....they have the SS machines $25-75 flavors etc..... So if you do CL you might save some.......
  15. Hope you have nice dry loading days and safe travels!
  16. I keep all lights turned off if I do not need them. The water heater is off for the winter and water is constantly being heated by the wood stove- hotter than the WH ever heated it! and far cheaper than $45 as a month's supply of wood does not cost me that much. Food cost me $47 in November, December was higher at $100 as I bought extras. I hope to be able to produce more of my food in the coming garden season.
  17. What about those compression bags? Won't they work for light weight softies anyway? My neighbor is sold on them and stores the childrens (7) clothes in them.Looked like she compressed them down to 1/3 the original size
  18. Interesting... but it is ridiculous the size of boxes for such little things. That has to be improper employee training or lack of care in the shipping department. In one way i can see the UPS/FED-X reasoning, the van fills up quickly with big boxes with little to show for it. But someone will get in gear and come up with innovative packaging hopefully.
  19. I agree with you Kappy! The shelters will tack the most absurd identities on a pup in their facility. Philbe sounds like you need to take Miss Abbie back to square one! She is too big a dog not to keep under control . Sounds like you are doing good but need to go further. Never let her go through a door before you (reassert your supremacy!) Never let her have her way. Do you know positive for sure her cross? Joy was sharp with me yesterday which was totally out of character.I watched her closely, took her for a longer walk, but she did not settle down until I gave her Pepcid. That meant she must have really had a bad tummy ache.

  21. Oregano oil is a powerful healing oil, just a drop will work wonders
  22. People do some rather unkind things to dogs.. it maybe trying to find its owner because it was dumped in your area- more or less waiting for the owner to come back. It may have been riding in the back of the truck and jumped/fell out.... To be so nervous sounds like it has been mistreated or either out for a long time? Reason I say this...... one winter when we were working on the neighbors farm we saw a dog beside the road lying on a coat. We drove slowly by and saw he was not hurt but decided that the owner would pick him up and we went on to work. Still there that evening, the next morning , evening, the next morning, we had been taking extra for lunch and if any was left over from breakfast we would give it to him as we went by. That evening we stopped and took him home , as the weather was fixing to turn bad. As far as we could tell he was beagle/ dachshund too long for a beagle to short for a doxie. He was a wonderful dog and when my aunt and uncle came up from La they fell in love with him and begged us to give him to them. 2 years later he gave his life for my aunt attacking 4 big dogs all by himself to keep them off her.....
  23. As a general rule any herb should not be taken constantly . Two weeks on, at least two weeks off for more effectiveness.
  24. Pass it own........It is wonderful to give, wonderful to receive. Do it don't hesitate you may lose your own blessing! Thanks for sharing
