  1. They were such nice big seeds and I was going to roast them. I am working on a neck pumpkin now and the seeds are about half as big.
  2. These dogs can be so smart and want to to what their owner does.... Having a dog for a companion more than pet...can be a hard row to hoe. My sympathies
  3. Anyone far enough south want some beautiful heirloom pumpkin plants? This pumpkin has a long French name but is known as the peanut pumpkin due to its shape. I tossed the seeds out thinking they were spoiled......
  4. I try to thank every soldier I meet for the service they gave us..

  6. Do you think it was the meat ? So sorry you are going thru this and you MIL too. Did the Dr give her some new medication?
  7. Kim started having stomach problems in August. The lymphoma had come back with a vengeance and soon spread over her body, she did have a large mass on her liver but it was worse elsewhere. She was taken in by a Mennonite family, the same one that Bethany now lives with, and they cared for her in their home until she passed. Hospice was there also. Bethany stayed with her Mom everyday, and was with Kim when she died with her hand on her arm.Bethany cried herself to sleep that night. The property will continue on being paid for by the family that legally has Bethany. The goats have gone to a different family. Kim went away very loved.
  8. I buy honey by the gallon and put it in quart or pint jars. Then it can be set on the stove near a burner without fear of melting. I have eaten raw honey / comb all my life and never had any to spoil regardless of the age. The only time honey is likely to be bad is if it is green..or uncapped. It should never be taken from the hive in that condition
  9. She died from liver cancer, was in hospice care. Kim could not take chemo due to MCS. Kim last posted here in April but did not mention health just lack of funds. There will be more info later when I check into it, as it is something I do not understand
  10. Has she had problems with this before? Prayers that all will be well without surgery.
  11. If anyone wants to leave condolences Edwardsfuneralhome.org
  12. Kim as her friends knew her passed away on Wednesday and was buried this afternoon. I know that earlier this year that Kim got Bethany settled with one of through Mennonite ladies. Her funeral was held in the Mennonite church and buried in their cemetery. As far as cause I do not know, will talk to one of the church members maybe tomorrow and will let you know what I find out.
  13. Been wondering about you. .
  14. Sarah, I think there are more books at our library and more readers of Amish life than any other. I read some of them see what was so enthralling.I think the authors are enhancing the truth if there is any truth at all., or just using the Amish to make a good read because it is so different..in looks anyway. I do live in an old order Amish community.
  15. This all me out of our garden when we made it. All in bite size pieces Broccoli Cabbage cauliflower cucumbers, Bell peppers, Lettuce, Asparagus Yellow crookneck squash All fresh uncooked Tomatoes served on the side This was not only the entree it was the only dish served and very satisfying. Dressing was offered but I do not think anyone used it.
  16. VA refused to pay the bills at the private hospital where my husband died. That hospital was 92 miles from where we lived, the VA hospital he had been going to was 135 miles. I do not like what I am hearing about the VA. I have been in almost constant contact with them for the last 3 years. I know if I had not had an excellent Veteran Service Officer, I could have been out on a limb with my sister. Jeepers, you are right, the VA ignored the plea of those tormented by Agent Orange until too many of them died. But the VA is made up of individuals, if your paperwork went to a caring considerate person , you got one thing, if it went could careless one, tough luck . Just as some are working through requests in a timely manner and you might get a quick response.......if they aren't you won't.
  17. I think/hope it is per region. The year after my DH died due to the treatment he got and did not get, because so many vets died for too little a reason and a storm of protests broke out from the survivors, think lawsuits... there was a major shakedown of that VA hospital......135 doctors were fired.
  18. On mine if it has a star I have replied to the thread. Otherwise Isis just a black dot. I will try using it!
  19. When we butchered a hog, other than the loin, bacon, and a shoulder, it was all ground for sausage. I added 2 oz of cayenne pepper, 4 oz of rubbed sage, salt and black pepper and if I wanted it extra hot...hot pepper seeds
  20. Jeepers and all who buy in bulk, you can probably find a good variety of flour, GMO or non GMO at the Amish bulk stores. Here it moves fast as they bake and sell so much bread. I am guessing it is fresher than in the store
  21. If using self rising I usually add the baking powder. I do not think BP stays good in flour mixes
  22. At a store in a very small town eggs were $3.95-4.95 doz. The Amish were sold out. But there is also the fact that 2 counties West ,a diseased flock was found. Birds with the disease are sick and look it, just like we do when we have the flu
  23. Take another soak in your lovely herb/spice mix! Glad you had a safe trip.
  24. Not meaning to discourage you but the NT did an article on the rats and their damage in India i think.. the rats had chewed through steel pipes. They got in my house by chewing through a seasoned oak 4x4 and the 2 layers of oak flooring to come through behind the fridge. I am no longer sure hardware cloth is sufficient
