  1. <G> I am with MtRider ... a couple of decades..is right ... different strengths for different task / different lighting....
  2. Supposed to be extra special tonight........ Last week it was the moon lining up with Jupiter and Venus. I will probably miss it tonight as the clouds are rolling in .
  3. Sarah I love old books and have my share of them. I went to the link you posted and clicked on Aunt Martha's Corner Cupboard. I did not realize it would download right then. But what downloaded was a bunch of pencil drawings...I assumed it was a cook book?
  4. Just curious... how many of you are on dial up with laptops or do you have a desktop computer? A laptop will load quicker than a desktop...don't ask me why I do not understand computers I just use them! A laptop will work quicker on dial up than a desktop. That sounds like I repeated myself but really that is two different conditions. I have only been on high speed internet for the last 4 years , I was on dial up for nearly 20 and it got slower. But once I got my first laptop I could load websites , get online ever so much quicker........ my first laptop was an old mac. I have always been on unlimited internet.. guess that is a blessing!
  5. I saw that too and wondered. Not all the books say that so.......
  6. May I suggest something? Would it not be a good idea to read the old books written late 1800 early 1900? I am now looking at a book written 1922 Trapper Jim by Edwyn Sandys. It talks about trapping, steel traps, building traps out of available material ,spears, fishing, lures for traps birds of prey or... swimming-showing strokes, dressing the catch, even a certain amount of taxidermy. These people never knew what modern conveniences were. Although this book has all this it is a story to I think. Right now I am too tired and sleepy to wrap my mind around it. it just might be on amazon maybe even a free book.
  7. It is 95 out there and humidity is only 52 % ..I thought it was kinda nice out there hanging the laundry out . There have been such few times for the past 8 months I could hang outside and the clothes get dry. When my head started getting hot I came in..but this low humidity !!!!!!! I know it gets old when it is 100 day after day..... I loved the desert when I lived in it.......
  8. Jeepers I am sorry... these new machines take some learning. Mine was a learning curve 6 years ago. I hope I never have to get a new one... Back when.......the man over the way got one..this was maybe 8-10 years ago when they were just experimenting with the things.... anyway he pushed the "stop " pedal only it was the go and away he went unable to stop ! His wife got in the car and flew to the neighbor who went to help. By that time he had crashed into the wall and was knocked off the rider. Not fair what they figure out for us older people...
  9. Unfortunately there is greed out there ...always has been always will be...... The price for poultry dropped because China once again has denied our poultry. As if they were clean of all faults ............ So far this is just limited to a couple of states in huge numbers.....unless some one spreads it further.........KWIM ? We the people, must stand strong, and not listen to the fear tactics they use to demoralize. Our hearts must be strong ... for out of the heart cometh fear etc. No fear........united, one nation under God, individual with liberty and justice for all.
  10. How did it get started....... ? If I say anything it will be too much. Missouri is first or second in poultry production in the nation. This could wipe out a lot of farms, bank accounts, generally hurt world markets. Course i do understand that China has a poultry business........................................................................
  11. Sorry about that! That was a lot of time and hard work for nothing... I am not sure what people are looking for .. Here the auction sales are fewer....estate sales are more frequent, I think the auctioneers are pricing themselves out of business at $2500 per sale up front when they list...doesn't matter if your stuff does not bring $2500 you still owe them.
  12. I washed my car this a.m. ..but then I always wash my own car and clean the inside!!
  13. Cole crops need a lot of fertilizer for fast growth and cool weather as you have noticed. They can also be planted in the fall and will take light frosts. i think if I try to raise cabbage again I will try putting netting over it from the beginning. I don't do poison so de wurms eat de cabbage.
  14. "free Kindle books" that particular search is what brought that up. I am on Prime but still it says subscription..I got an email to that effect some time back but did not pay any attention to it. However the books mentioned above if it says they are free- are. (if they are still in the time frame). I look only for free books because I am very picky about what I read and have maybe found 1 in 75 that I even read. . I can check out various 'new' authors to see if I like them I also have enough problems with electronics I do not want to waste my money on loosing a whole order of books. Truly though I prefer hardbacks that I can hold in my hand....................
  15. When did Amazon go to subscription ? Free only if you pay $9.99 month. I could go months without picking up my kindle... I have deleted more than I have kept.
  16. Check that baby over good!! What did they do to it to scratch it ?....did they air up the tire or put a new one on? Hope you have someone knowledgeable about it to check it when they bring it. If there is anything wrong call JD direct and report it. You are buying a new mower and they have been giving you a run-around.
  17. Mt.Rider you did not say how many years........30 years ago I took my husband to the VA hospital which had been treating him for his malady. he was filling with fluid and I had to get a wheelchair for him as he could not walk. They refused to admit him to the hospital.....why? Because his condition was treatable at home. It was a slap in the face, my husband was dying! So i took him back home waited two days and called his VA doctor who admitted him immediately. I will go into no further details for it was not that hospital he died in. There were people in the VA hospital that said they believed a russian Roulette was going on there. Somewhere/ sometime doctors quit looking at patients and looked at money instead..... there are those like Snow-mom mentioned and their patients are most richly blessed.
  18. I got a Cub 5-6 years ago with manual gears, then found out I could not shift it..did not have enough strength in my arm. So we took it back and got the one with, I think it is called hydraulic ?, but that may not be the right name. Anyway it has a big pedal to push for forward and a small one for reverse ..very easy to operate. Have fun with your new servant!
  19. Heavy rain, now cloudy with more rain possible, invasion of mosquitoes, inside the best way of protection from the elements and blood suckers. Sewing is getting my attention. Nothing smells so good as a fresh rain........... Jeepers.. rather depends on how large your yard is and what kind of rider you have in mind. If it is rough can you stand the jouncing? A zero turn will require you to hold the levers at all times as they are your speed, brake and steering. Will it bother you to keep your arms at one position? Any riding mower will start at $895 and work up to several $1000. Here for my 2 acres it will cost about $65 weekly/per time but weed eating is including in that. I mow for several hours to get mine all done and it is getting harder for me to do all in one stretch of course this last time, it was after a grueling farm sitting job and maybe I was more tired than usual. Just some things to think about.
  20. http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/2015/05/26/irs-breach-100000-accounts-get-transcript/27980049/ Strange if they are collecting so much money that they can not even keep their programs or security up to date. Is it one of those "can't happen to me " thoughts?
  21. Terro works fine on the sweet or grease ants, as does borax. But in my other house the only thing that would work on the kind I am fighting now ,was Miracle 2. So I am wondering if it is the Dawn that wiped out these ants. It certainly did not nothing for the hours work of spraying the weeds, etc.
  22. Bear with me ... I was told that 1 gal. vinegar, 1 cup epsom salts and 1/4 cup of blue Dawn would kill weeds ,sprouts etc. So I am out doing that and came back to the house to work on the west side and there are those ants again. I have sprayed them with everything organic I could.....I do not know where the beginning is but they are traveling along the edge of the siding to the corner up to the eaves then up toward the peak before entering the house. So I sprayed their trail with my mixture . I have not seen any since!! This has been going for weeks. I need to go in the attic and see what they are doing../have done.
  23. Eggs $.99 dozen (farm fresh $1 from Amish) at grocery in the next small burg which is cheaper than the General $ on food and cleaning supplies at least. Pays to shop after doing research... Right now there seems to be some really good buys on pork. Leg quarters 10lb $7.90 Big bags, 50lb, of sugar. flour/etc are not always cheaper than small bags. One Amish store is offering potatoes $4.99/50 lb sprouting... that would make a nice potato patch and plenty to eat or can as well.

    Perfumes

Perfume to affect the mind I read a novel once about that now what was the name of it.......?? Perfume has never really bothered me until this year....I do but extremely rarely wear perfume and what I have is maybe 30-40 years old...good stuff! But I want a choice for washing and drying my clothes..I do not need perfume in my laundry detergent, and certainly not in the rinse or dryer. I have never used a dryer before but with the cloudy damp weather we have had for the last 6 months it became a necessity. I love sun drying ..the fresh outdoor smell.. but the dryer requires something..... The $ store no longer handles no perfume dryer sheets or detergent (dishes or clothes). That area of the store is rank with scents as never before. I could think it would be highly dangerous to our health for perfume in TP.

Just one more way to kill us off or destroy our minds so slowly we do not "notice" it. http://www.ourlittleplace.com/perfume.html Sorry I guess I have conspiracy on my mind.
