    DYI potty

I love the sawdust toilet you described. However I have never relied on those flimsy snap on lids but have always used a regular toilet seat. I also added vermiculite to the peat and sawdust. I usually left the fresh emptied bucket outside to air and sun clean , keeping several buckets on hand just for that potty use. They never had the odor that the non composting kind do!
  8. Oh do not think I was even remotely suggesting you do your hay the way I did . Sorry I was just telling you how I had to do mine and why. I also had 25-40 goats to care for so I used a lot more hay. A service dog is not made over night. They have to live with you and pick up on your weakness and learn what to do when and how. Koa is still a pup but an intelligent one. She will not be mature until she is 3-4 years old.
  9. I have only one time had one of the big bales such as you got. I can not say I was in love with it either. But I had a choice which you did not. I requested hay that could be stacked . For me that was very important. I went and got it in my truck, he loaded the bale(s), and then it was up to me to unload it. That one(and the last ) bale was very tight hay but The blocks had to come off the truck in 1/2s so that I could manage it. Yes I cut the strings and piece by piece unloaded and stacked it in the barn, and fed it the same way.I had a blue barrel cut in half that hauled the hay further to the other pens. I am glad you are having no worse effects from yesterdays dunking! You are starting Koa's training as a service dog and only beginning to find out how valuable she will be.
  10. I like radishes in stir fry. But then you can put most anything in stir fry!!
  11. Oh my dear! Drink hot cayenne pepper tea if you can or ginger either should warm you up inside. Interesting how your goats survive- was reading of another lady in Colorado that had one freeze to death last year, and was putting them in the garage last night to keep them warm. they are small - pygmy I think . Winter certainly has its hazards.......
  12. Good question even though we know the dead bodily fluids are the most dangerous. This site goes deeper that I understand but I believe it goes a far as they knew at the time. http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/lab-bio/res/psds-ftss/ebola-eng.php
  13. It has been two weeks or longer since I heard from CGA . She has been working on the big cabin,,sounded like it was insulated, drywalled, painted, floor was to be or is painted, the cabin is wired for 12 volt special lights she mentioned which I had not heard of ....had to be wired for just so, wood stove is there,(no wood when I last talked to her) tile laid for the stove and backboard-she did all that. I think the next thing , maybe done by now was to get help moving the heavy furniture into the new cabin. She has her water tank , filled with rain water-I forget how big it is. Solar is beyond me but she does have power, and will have sufficient, I do not believe it was all hooked up at the time but she had all she needed. Shelter for the goats, hay in shelter. CGA said she had had a cold but I do believe she caught Missouri's famous allergies which go away with frost. The pollen count has been extremely high this year and lots of sneezing going on.... But she has been desperately working to get the cabin ready before winter and ready for them to move in. Bethany has slipped back to her former condition. She is healthy but a little child.
  14. Love it !! Thanks for sharing. Nice to see the fun they were having!

  24. Nearly all the sites I went to used the bottles for lighting of some sort. I had serious doubts about that but I have no desire to use them that way. The solar idea though intrigues me. LED lights do they get hot?
