  4. What about Get along home Cindy Cindy get along home Cindy Cindy get along home Cindy Cindy I'll marry you someday... PS WELCOME Everyone!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Let's see. My name is Buttercup. I live in a small rural farming community in Central Illinois. My hubby and I have been married 15 years tomorrow. We have 3 children ages 14, 14, and 6.. We raise goats, chickens, rabbits, geese, a turkey, gunieas, ducks, the occasional pig, dogs and cats. We also love to garden and "put by" as much as I can. I love to chat online. I enjoy primitive antiques. Aprons are a passion of mine. I am a homesteader wanna be. We heat with wood only with a fireplace and woodburning furnace. A woodburning cookstove is our next step! Born in the wrong century. Although I love to bake and cook or whatever I hate to clean. I loathe dishes and laundry, most days it goes un-noticed. I work for a small catering service and resturaunt a few hours a week. My hubby is a contruction welder. Mostly I am a SAHM, who can't keep her house clean because I spend too much time on here with ya'll when I am not at work... LOL... Hope everyone feels at home here on our "Sunporch"... Blessings!
  6. Every now and then I will get those cheap cuts and cook them slowly in a covered skillet.. They still have a good flavor and get somewhat tender that way. I mean it's nothing like t-bone or ribeyes! Ok mouth is watering I need to stop..
  7. Well Unike I am so sorry about your bird. This year has gone by so very quickly. Especially the last two weeks as I went back to work and the kids to school. We did go ahead and buy that 15 passenger van. I drove it last night. Didn't think I would be able too.. My sister said you have to have a special license to drive that. I said no you don't not for personal use. The best part of it, is that I am able to make payments on it. I am purchasing it from my boss. She is taking 25 dollars a week out of my check. This helps me out tremendously. Tomorrow my husband celebrates his 15th year of being married! Last night we had meatloaf mashed potatoes and corn, which is his favorite meal. I was thinking tonight of making home made pizzas. Thought about doing something nice for him tomorrow night. But I am at a complete blank. My boss gave me the day off tomorrow. Today I don't go in until 1030, and only work until noon. Perhaps I will actually get some cleaning done! Now that the kids are gone though sleep sounds really really good.

Mine looks similar to that one. Only that one has more glass on it. I have one more of the drawers that run up and down and my other drawers above them aren't as big as those. plus I have 2 really small drawers just underneath of the doors where the flour bin is. On the other side is wire cooling racks. The racks in the bottom also are wire. And the very bottom is a wooden shelf that can be pulled out also! Mine was given to us by Mike's family as an inheritance from his Grandma!
  9. Coming from the mom of a child with ADHD I can personally vouch for the fact that my son is calmer while outdoors. He finds things to occupy his mind. In doors he gets bored way too fast and starts fidgiting and fighting with the girls.

There is no metal plate on mine to tell of it's name, or place of origin. On the inside doors there are some charts are far as roasting times, there's a spring to hold a cookbook. In the windows at the top of the doors there a little teapots.. There is a flour bin. It has the sliding door that goes up and down. I assume it's a bread box type thing. And a small metal shelf I am assuming that spices go there. Not much else could fit there. Does this sound like any of yours?
  11. Here it is the last Monday in August. 117 days before Christmas (thanks Cavey) I went to the thrift shop this morning, and found several things. I picked up a blanket for lil DD for a dollar, it's an old mother goose one. I got 3 shirts for DD, 2 glass coffee mugs, a thermos for hot soups or drinks, a small candle, 5 or 6 shirts for lil dd. PJ's for ds, 6 plastic melmac plates, and 2 bags of rags.. In these bags are t-shirts and such that they feel they can't sell as regular items so they fill the bags and sell them for 50 cents a bag. I got tons of t-shirts and sweat pants and shirts for ds and dh. I spent all of 12 dollars! Oh and I got the cutest little dress for lil dd. And socks probably a dozen pair. That was what I did first thing this morning. Then I went and visited a friend, and had to be at work at 1030 so I left her house at 10 and got to work just on time. She lives in town which is at least 15 miles from our town. I worked until 12. Ate lunch with the boss and sat and chatted for nearly 2 hours. I was dreading going home because it was a mess. Then went home, waited on DH to call and then ran to another town to take in dishwsher payment. Came home and made tacos. MY bil gave us some dishes he no longer used, He married a few weeks ago and so he thinned out his stash. In it was a meat grinder. I ground up some hotdogs tonight in order to make ham salad later. Also in this box was a pampered chef chopper! And Grandma's old metal canisters ( the silver round ones that's say the names of contents on the lids). I know I am now expected to get rid of all my mason jars I have lined up on the counter, in order to make room for this canisters. I think I will just clear another area for them. Maybe if I clean off my hoiser cupboard they could go on it. We'll see. Tonight was spent fighting with teenagers over cleaning. Wasn't pretty. And now I am ver sleepy so I must go. Ya'll have a great day tomorrow! uGH which starts in less than 26 minutes! Night all!
  12. Darn it I am so sorry I missed it again. Hey Dar did you do the slumber party thingy the other night?
  13. Snowmom just wanted you to know that you were on my mind and in my heart. My prayers are with you and your family, especially your ds and the boys. I am glad they have you so they can cope with the lonliness they will encounter. God Bless you all...

    Aprons (1)

Wes, I am so very proud to call you my friend... What an awesome experience you just shared with all of us. I can't wait to see pictures of your apron display! I have this one older lady that I deliver to out in the country every day. Her name is Beulah. I go up to her door and she opens the door and has me bring her food inside. I swear it's like walking into yesterday there. She's there in her old chore dress and apron. No lights on in the house, why would there be? It's daylight. Small siegler stove there in the kitchen, tv on quietly in the living room, I betcha she even has a "davenport" in there. I wish I had the time to just sit at that old kitchen table and listen to her talk. So anyway for a few brief moments a day I step back into time, back outside and into today. Thanks for sharing your display thoughts with us. Don't forget to take pictures of that "sky blue" ribbon too! God Bless!
  16. Well now that I can do.... I have a digital cam so I am sure I can take lots of notes and pictures...
  17. Well I am not sure Motherearth.
  18. Hi ya'll. I have been in Contact with Carla Emery who wrote the book Encylcopedia of Country Living. I have invited her to come here on Nov 8 of this year to do a homesteading seminar. I am very excited about this. Any of you wanting to come and meet Carla that evening let me know and I will give you times and directions. The cost of the seminar is free but donations are being accepted to provide for Carlas travel expenses. I wouldn't be able to "put" anyone up here at our home but there is a town near by that has the cheaper hotels.. Just PM me and let me know. Thanks, Dawn
  19. Well it's nearly Sunday now. But I just wanted to drop a few lines to ya'll to say HEY!!!!!!!! I got in 28 hours this week at work. I know that doesn't seem like a lot to some of you, but my poor body feels like it was a lot. Such a soft whimp am I... We made plans to go to the rodeo tonight. Guess what? The family makes plans... And everytime we do it rains. I can't believe it. We have been waiting on this night for a year. I took a cooler back to work this afternoon since it was my day off. I should have known better... "Can you come in to work?" UGH. What was I gonna say?? Yeah I could have said no. But she didn't have anyone else and the girl who was supposed to work well her husband ended up having to do something so he couldn't watch the baby.. So we switched days off. I get tomorrow off now. The kids and I were on our way to the grocery store. So one more night without groceries isn't going to kill us. Of course I am having a craving for micro popcorn. We are out. Just sent DH (meaning Dear) to get some... Whoohooo big brownie points on that one. I have been working everyday but one since I started. I get to keep all of my own tips! There's not many as we are more of a catering service than a resturaunt but we do have some "regulars" that come in daily. Last night was the most I have made and that was 10 dollars. Hey that's free and clear I don't have to deduct that from my wages! We did try to go to the rodeo. Oh my did it pour the minute we got to the fair ground. Of course we weren't anywhere near our car. We stood under a pavilion for an hour. Then got stuck trying to leave. The kids and I got out to push. Sis fell down I was laughing so hard. Then Bud fell down. Funnier. If it hadn't been raining so hard and thundering it might have been more enjoyable. And since we were already nice and soaked we helped another get unstuck as well. The neice became muddy on this one.. His tire threw mud all over here. Halarious! DH and I went and test drove a 15 passenger van tonight. It's a 92 Dodge 350 and they want 2000 for it. I thought that wasn't a bad price how bout ya'll? Boy we oould have used it tonight. We had umm lemme see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7... Seven people in my little Dodge Spirit. We had teenagers sharing laps. OH I have some exciting news I am going to post it in Homestead in a few minutes. Well now that I have rambled on .. Tomorrow we go shopping, since we didn't get to today! I need new shoes those hard floors are killing me. And then Monday right back at it. I think for awhile I am only gonna work 2 hours during the lunch hour and then work Friday and Saturday. We will see.. The boss wants me to work for her sometimes too so she can have a day off now and then. She needs it the poor lady is always there. I am glad after only a week on the job she trusts me enough to take care of things. OK I really am going now. Take care. Love and Hugs to all! Dawn
  20. Does anyone know how to make a roasting pit for a hog? I remember my dad's place of employment when we were kids had a hog roast every year where they made a pit in the ground and cooked it that way. But I have know idea how to do this. I hope this doesn't offend anyone, I just thought it was excellent meat as a kid. Has anyone ever done one on a spit? I saw them do it that way on PBS on the Frontier. Any ideas??
