  1. Today I pop open one of my jars of canned turkey. We are either having turkey pot pie or turkey and dumplings. Not sure yet.I am leaning towards the dumplings.
  2. Sounds good to me. I didn't realize he was in the Survival Library
  3. Does anyone use corn flour? If so please share your experiences.
  4. Mt Rider this one may need to be pinned whatca think?
  5. Arby, it took me a while but i found my vegan cookbook from when ds#2 lived at home. (he is vegan) This is what the cook book suggest for egg replacement in cooking... 1 tbsp gram (chick pea) or soya flour and 1 tbsp water or 1 tbsp arrowroot, 1 tbsp soya flour and 2 tbsp water or 2 tbsp flour, 1/2 tbsp shortening, 1/2 tsp baking powder and 2 tsp water or 50g tofu blended with the liquid portion of the recipe or 1/2 large banana, mashed
  6. Music oh geezzzz I have eclectic taste in music thanks to my boys. When they were younger the rule was if they would play it in front of me without embarrassing me then they could listen to it. So I will have to say they are the reason for my eclectic taste. I am not a big tech-no fan but will listen to pretty much anything ONCE. On my mp3 player you are going to find anything from celtic to bluegrass, from chamber music (georgian chants) to southern gospel. I have country (old and today's), classic rock, movie sound tracks, jazz, blues and contemporary gossip to soundscapes. You will even find some Godsmack, Greenday, 9 Inch Nails. But I would have to say when I need chill music to unwind with it has to be my Indian spiritual flute cd that I go to every time.
  7. AH here is the recipe from the video 1 cup oatmeal 2 eggs 1 1/2 teaspoons sage powder 1 teaspoon fennel 1 teaspoon ground rosemary 1/2 teaspoon parsley 1/2 teaspoon onion powder 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon celery salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder dash of red pepper flakes Mix and make in to thin patties. Fry on both sides in a little bit of oil then add 3 cups beef broth bring to boil then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Drain and brown on both sides and serve.
  8. I left the "nuggets" on the kitchen table and when hubby and ds got home they were like food...before I could say anything they had both popped on in their mouth.Their verdict...mmeeehhh it ok but not the greatest. So I am going to try it in sausage form. I still haven't told them it was just oatmeal and spices. I will wait and do that after the sausage and hamburger test. They both ate several but they dunked them in either ketchup, honey mustard or ranch dressing.
  9. Another item is pasta, it is no longer 16 oz but 14oz for the same price. Like everyone else I am noticing more and more products have shrunk. I agree with Momo wish I would shrink like the products are.
  10. I bet you could use chicken seasoning and use it to make chicken nuggets. Oh I must try this I have oatmeal and chicken bullion. I am trying this today. With a little honey mustard I but hubby will love it. Update: Well since hubby is working today I thought I would give this a try and make the chicken nuggets. I have used poultry seasoning, seasoning salt, rosemary, garlic powder, onion powder and parley. All I have is quick cook oats, I believe a certain young man in NC reappropriated my steel cut oats because they didn't seem to make the trip. The nuggets are currently in the broth cooking for 20 minutes. Since these are quick cook oats I don't think I will cook them that long. Update to come. Final Update: Ok so it is offical you can not taste the oatmeal and it has the texture of a hamburger or meatloaf. If you like ground meat then you will be ok. I used the following 1 cup oatmeal 2 eggs 1 teaspoon crushed rosemary 1 tablespoon poultry seasoning (however, this was a little much I think I will cut it back to 2 teaspoons and use a tablespoon of bullion powder) 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon onion powder 1 teaspoon seasoning salt 1/2 teaspoon parsley I rolled it ot into a log and cut it into 1 inch cubes If I was going to serve this to hubby instead of browning it I would batter it and fry it to give it more of the nugget texture. It just doesn't have the chicken texture that I am used to. I can see how it would make delicious sausage. I could also see making a meatloaf like this. I may try adding some black beans to it and making a hamburger patty. Impression on a sale of 1-10 I would give it a 3 as far as chicken nuggets; however I would give it a 8 or 9 for meat loaf or hamburger. It is just too much like ground meat for me to say yes I would serve this as chicken nuggets. Taste on a sale of 1-10 I would give it a 5 again the texture is what is getting me. A hamburger or meat loaf would probably get a 8 or 9 for taste. Will I serve this to my family...you bet ya, I will serve it as sausage or hamburger. It is not bad I am sitting here eating it and I will have to say it is pretty good but I must cut back on the poutry seasoning it is over powering.. It needs tweaking but I will serve this in a heart beat. I intend to post this on my blog with pictures so check it out after Monday and it should be up there.
  11. I have done it. They didn't like it and if they failed to plan they suffered with sandwiches or ate what I fixed (I was ugly on those nights they failed to come through I would fix the one thing they complained the most about). Just before everyone started flying the next I got where I was only cooking for me and hubby. If anyone else wanted to eat what I cooked they had to mark the menu that they would be eating so I would know to cook enough for them too.
  12. Me too, I also have some pork bullion I think I will try that instead of beef and see if it passes hubby's taste test. Got to try this. I think I will make some up while he is at work then make milk gravy and biscuits. (sneaky mt3b sneaky)
  13. You can order it through Honeyville from the 17th to the 22nd using the coupon code RESOLVE and only pay 16.99
  14. Hams really were not on sale. I have lucked up and found pork loins for less than $2 a pound. Was able to get a couple of turkeys after Thanksgiving for less than 60 cents a pound. But no great sales on chicken or beef. I did notice one of the stores is having a buy one get one sale on roast. I need to go and check it out if they are not too expensive I may pick up a couple.
  15. Ouch...well be a good boy and mind nurse Lori. Hope you feel better soon.
  16. I think I will just continue buying it at WalMart and Sam's Club. I will just have to remember to pick up a gallon or two each time I go to the store so I will be well stocked again.
  17. Well yesterday I tried this we will see how it goes. I cut the tips off and stuck them in water and put them in the window seal if nothing happens they hit the compost bowl. If they work I will have fresh green onions.
  18. Guess I need to invest in vodka. I looked and I do have a little bit of vodka. Probably enough to do one batch.
  19. I am kicking myself I have yet to start my compost pile and I have thrown my egg shells away oh well as many as we eat around here I will have plenty before long.
  20. Same here I love it and could eat it every day; however, hubby doesn't like it. It ranks up there with green peas and boiled eggs with him...as in do not serve that to me if you expect me to eat.
  21. He is adorable. I love cats. I am more a cat person than a dog person.
  22. I need to do this with a couple i have in the refrig now. They got shoved to the back of the drawer and I didn't realize they were there. I use green onions year round. I used to plant them in an old muffin tin and grow them all year long but since moving here I haven't done that I was afraid they would freeze in the window. I am adding an in house green house this next month or two. It will be a shelf unit with grow lights and I plan on having lettuce, onions and starting my herbs in there.
  23. Let me know how this works. I think I have some vodka, oh wait that is Irish whiskey I have darn. I will have to invest in vodka but still let me know how this works. Lemon balm is one of the herbs I am planting this next year.
  24. HOLY MOLY! I didn't realize there were so many different types of lavender. Why type of lavender to you plant and why did you choose that type. These are the types I have run across: French Long Lady Lavender English Lavender Hidcote Blue Munstead And here I thought lavender was "just" lavender me's thinks me's getting in over my head with this herb garden. Dare I ask what other herbs you plant?
  25. Probably in the next biggest town which is 50-60 miles away. That is where the nearest SAMs is located.
