  1. Becca Anne I am glad your travels have been uneventful... Littlesister and MidnightMom know how hard it must be to deal with these young men. Hopefully they will grow up some day. Jeepers it sounds like you are getting things organized. All I am doing is spinning my wheels. Everything I do seems to create more to do. My list gets longer, not shorter. I did at least clear out a very large bag of old receipts and magazines. My computer and cell phone both died. I got the computer fixed and bought a new cell phone. Unfortunately, the clerk didn't scan it right and I spent alot of time today trying to get it working. Gotta go back to the store tomorrow and have it scanned. What a pain. Also the front tire of my electric wheelchair (which I am in all day long) has separated. A new one is over 100$ That's just the wheel. Yikes! I hope everyone has a nice Memorial Day holiday. We all need a break and we need to remember those who gave the ultimate.
  2. I remember when she was still with Ike and singing Proud Mary with that fringy dress. That fringe had a life of it's own!
  3. Ya'll get so much done. I feel like all I do is spin my wheels. If I do get something checked off as complete on my job list, I find three more things to take it's place. I am having problems getting my grass cut. The lady who usually does it ,comes after work. She has been unable to come because her mother is dying from breast cancer. She will come as soon as she can but I know her Mom is the most important right now. Her Mom is lucky to have a daughter like her. They have given her less than 3 months to live. On the happy side we are still having incredible weather. I am still not sweating! Our high yesterday was 67 which is perfect to me. I wish I was able to garden but I have to be able to stay on pavement in my wheel chair or I will get stuck. Hope everyone here has a great day!
  4. Congrats on your birthday and weight loss too!
  5. You don't look a day older! Have a wonderful day.
  6. Had a light frost here too..unbelievable. I brought along a cheesecake to share!
  7. To those who celebrate Easter II want to wish you a happy and holy day tomorrow.
  8. Hope you have/had a wonderful day!
  9. I have problems with doctors too It took me over a month to get my blood test results. The girl said it was all fine so I asked about my h1ac (?) for my sugar. It was sky high. SO much for them really reading my tests. My BP is usually 140/70. For the first time in my life it was low 110/48. I was stunned and mentioned it was low for me. I assumed the tech would do it again. No..we just took that reading. I only go every 18 months or so to get my bp meds renewed. It is still so dreary. Not much rain but hardly any sunny days. The morning chill is starting to fade away. Soon it will be really hot. I wish we had senior ride around here. I really need to get my mammo and some dental work. Being handicapped I have a hard time getting in the actual building. I can drive and transfer but can't stand or walk. I guess I should move to a city with more transportation but rent would be pretty high in an apartment. I hope everyone has a great day.
  10. Thanks out....and Jeepers!
  11. Thank you BeccaAnne and Miki. Other than the insurance agent(computer) sending me a card, you are the only ones to remember.
  12. The sun finally came out. It is still windy and chilly though. Only 58 degrees now. I felt like cooking so I made some homemade chicken parmesan and oatmeal cookies. I haven't made either one in years. Without DH to enjoy it cooking just isn't worth it as often. Now I have a messy kitchen to clean up. There's a cute new show on Peacock plus. It's not great but it is good. I like it because it is less than an hour and is well written. It's called Poker Face and it's about a girl on the lam who keeps stopping at towns where crimes are going on. She is alot like Columbo because she notices little things that bug her. It is a bit different. The last episode had Judith Light as an aging hippy. What a hoot. It does use bad language so I wouldn't let little ones watch. I am looking for another handyman/yard work guy for this upcoming spring. Every time I find one they only last about a year. The last one got laid off for a bit so he was available for the summer. He just got a new job so he won't be back. Hope ya'll have a good week.
  13. I had a friend of DH's volunteer to do some things for me yesterday. He gave me his discount rate. Fortunately, I had my badly needed new toilet and parts already waiting in the garage. He got it done in less than an hour. It felt good to get something accomplished. He said he is going to try to come by more often. That would be wonderful since he is honest and works hard. Maybe I can get some stuff fixed around here. This is the toilet in my powder room. It started leaking almost a year ago. I was able to turn it off back then so I didn't have any water damage. I told him to let me know if he saw any tools he wanted when I die. I am trying to plan ahead and I would like to help out folks like him if I can. He also picked up my pine straw under my trees. He said he pays 5-6$ a bale to buy it so it helped him out too. I need to go to town, but I've gotten to the point where I hate to go anywhere. The dinner options are getting pretty slim so I better get to it soon. It looks like everyone has been so busy around here. I really need to get myself in gear and accomplish more. Love the little goats. Reminds me of when we used to have Sally. She thought she was a dog. She would sit on the porch swing with the granddaughter. They would go back and forth and both fall asleep if they were there long enough. Sweet critters. Miki I hope your hubby continues to improve. Stay warm and safe ya'll
  14. Oh Jeepers! What a terrible way to start the new year. At least you didn't get hurt (or murdered by the good samaritan). I hope you don't suffer much aggravation from the insurance company. So far an uneventful year for me. Hope it stays that way. I am getting too old for adventures and ordeals. Happy New Year ya'll.
  15. Those border collies are smart. We had one a few years back and it was amazing to watch her little brain tick. DH trained her to go to the paperbox way down our long driveway and get my newspaper. She was so proud prancing up our driveway to bring it to me. Beautiful animal. I am surrounded by broken and dying appliances and house parts. Between lack of money and the difficulty of getting good repairfolks it is starting to get on my nerves! I am thankful I made it through the bad weather with nothing breaking and my pipes intact.
  16. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I love those dominos. I am a very patient person but I don't have enough patience to do something like that. Wow. It must take many hours to set up.
  17. I woke up to 7 degrees but looks like no water leaks or any problems. The wind has died down a good bit. The stray cat made it through the night. I fixed him a heated bed in the garage. I don't know if he used it or not but he was his old chipper self when he came by for his breakfast. I watch out for him but I don't want him depending on me. I could end up dead or in hospital at any time. I know he can mouse and we live on a lake so he can always get water. I don't have any plans today except to stay home and warm.
  18. How wonderful! He looks like you..lol Granny.
  19. Today is my sons birthday. He was born at 4 am. Maybe that's why I woke up tonight. We are supposed to get down to 5 degrees at night tomorrow with a daytime high of less than 20. Yikes! Windy too. I am only concerned about my outdoor taps and the possibility of losing a utility. I am glad I have no plans for Christmas this year. It would be rough to be traveling in this cold. Has anyone else noticed how each year there are fewer and fewer Christmas cards? I know I lose about 2 people every year to death but many just don't bother anymore. I remember how many cards my parents used to get. Huge stack and they were kind of antisocial! This year I had 2 ladies over 90 on my list. They are both exntended family. One of them is my DH's first sister in law. She is 95 now and still a hoot. Kind of funny that we are still friends since her sister and my hubby were divorced nearly 60 years ago. She is actually older than my parents would be if they were alive. If I make it that long I hope to still have my marbles. I went to pick up my WalMart order at the correct time today. It wasn't ready at 5 like promised and they said it would be a bit late. Glad I didn't wait because as of now I still have not heard when it will be ready..or if. I know they are busy due to the expected weather and Christmas but his is not uncommon for them. Ya'll stay warm!
  20. My family likes to die on holidays. It makes it hard for those of us left behind as you ladies know. On my sons birthday about 10 years ago we were literally blowing out the candles when the phone rang. His 8 year old niece had just been run over at her mailbox and died. Five years ago on his wife's bday (My DIL) my sister died. Both of them have quit celebrating their birthdays now. So sad. Thinking of all my lost friends and family this Thanksgiving. I miss them all.
  21. It reminds me of the time my DIL fixed Thanksgiving. She didn't want to mess with a turkey so she got a Honey baked spiral sliced ham. It was delicious. Afterwards she sliced off the easy pre cut slices for sandwiches later. She had about a 1-2 inch chunk of ugly ham near the bone. She just tossed the whole thing in the garbage. I was so shocked it's a wonder I didn't gasp out loud. What a waste. She only cut off the easy slices and that was it. I could have got about 5 more sandwiches and a great pot of beans from the bone. lol
  22. What a Sweetie Euphrasyne! I had a sad boring day. DH died on Thanksgiving day 2 years ago so it is a hard day for me. The weather was decent for this time of the year but I was very gloomy. I hope everyone at MrsS. had a wonderful celebration.
  23. Add me to the losing old friends category. My last Aunt died at the ripe old age of 97. My first playmate(neighbor) that I remember died in her mid 60's and my last high school boyfriend is gone now too. So many in a short period of time. It is finally a bit cooler but still very nice. They keep predicting rain but all we get is little drizzles. Since DH has died I am becoming a recluse. Yesterday I made myself call some folks to catch up. It seems like everyone is having problems and suffering in different ways. We didn't even get to politics! Have a nice weekend ya'll.

    1950 census

When my son turned 30 I made him a scrapbook of his life. It included the yearly Santa Claus picture, his school pictures, his first hair cut, diaper pins, the Dr. appt card to verify my pregnancy etc. When he opened it he said nice but didn't even open it. At some point he put it on the shelf in his library and has never said another word about it. I would have been crying if my Mom had ever done anything like that for me.

My son is starting to care some but he is too busy for it right now. Maybe when he retires he will really pursue it. One of the grand daughters is a bit interested but the other 2 don't care at all. I found the only picture of my first MIL's wedding. I was so happy to give it to my ex at a recent wedding since I knew he hadn't seen it. He barely looked at it. Both of his parents are dead now. Oh well different strokes for different folks I guess.
