I was surfing around on this site that I like to nosey around on and found this thread that was started today by a student in the Ukraine. This has not made it to the news from what i can understand. These people are reporting what is going on right now and what they are experiencing. Many deaths from unknown illness but could be linked to a form of Swine from what I can gather. I have only read through the first page but thought it may be a good idea for us to keep an eye on this....just in case.

I just clicked a few pages over in the above post and it has gone really bad. This thread was started this morning and it is getting pretty massive. This is really something to keep an eye on. They have shut schools down nationwide and are quarantining. I'm not able to sit up and read it all right now but thought it would be important to pass on here. Looks like this is much worst than what Mexico experienced. They are talking about the pneumontic plague.

Interesting for sure! Would like to check out more reports for rate updates and stuff but gotta run to town this morning. Initial thought is the media headlines might be more sensational than the real event?? Don’t know, not discounting anything. What I’m thinking so far is Ukraine population 46 million, 951 hospitalized, 30 dead; WHO is sending team to investigate reported H1N1 outbreak- at least 11 lab confirmation for that. Its winter time, cold and flu season over there. Medical care system may be inadequate on a good day, lacking in both antibiotic and masks; one report said “People died because they did not apply in time for doctors. The patients called the doctor at 5-7 days of illness, when it was impossible to help people" Incidentally that is one of the things U.S. is reporting. Cautioning those with severe illness or underlying health issues to not delay seeking treatment! Flu deaths are really pneumonia deaths. Secondary bacterial infections are huge concern.

Notice how some of these thing aren’t written about or fully explained in some of the scary headlines with terms like mysterious disease, highest epidemic?? While school closings and halts to public gathers sounds unusual, social distancing is a proven method of containing infection anytime. On the political side suspension of some activities due to the 'crisis' are predicted to effect current elections.

Thanks for posting heads up ANM. I'm gonna pick up more emergenC (good stuff!) while in town. Any kind of flu or respiratory illness can be very serious and it especially breaks my heart when I hear about any illness causing harm to our children. Sadly, 22 more H1N1 pediatric deaths U.S. last week. As a mother/grandmother I'm following all reports and keeping eyes/ears open in order to better prepare for my family.

I read quite alot of it too, and one of the University students who was still not on a plane home to another country, said that it was killing in 3 days time now, this new strain.... I don't really understand how it is different, actually. Description seemed about the same to me as what we are seeing all around us in the US now... but I am glad the teams are going in to test it and determine what it is exactly.

She also wrote that there is no heat in the hostels, they are spraying disinfectant in the streets and already basically instituted isolation at home now. NO one was in the streets. It is also very cold there already.

Pneumonic plague? An added infection , evidently is in the picture there in the Ukraine as well.

The foreign students are travelling by plane to go home from there ( the Ukraine), well , then, this new virus strain will now expand won't it? Some were US citizens.

I didn't get to read alot last night.....just flipped through a page or two of that thread but it sent up a red flag to me that NOT ALL BORDERS WERE CLOSED. One was....the med student that was reporting was saying that what media reports that were made...which were very few....were trying to write it off as H1N1 but the people who are witnessing like the Dr.'s are saying it's something different. Could be H1N1...but a worst strain or a mutation. So I'm just wondering the chances of it spreading from there if they do not contain it? I also thought it was intersting to see how they shut things down. Can you imagine that happening here? People would go nuts!!!

BE VERY CAREFUL about believing this just yet.

Above Top Secret.com is known for sensationalist stories and conspiracy junk. And I have NO IDEA if the MIGnews.com site is good or not. There are lots of creeps out there who love to start stuff to see if it makes it into "real" news channels.

As usual, watch but don't panic.

From one of the better worldwide tracking sites:

Seven flu deaths have been reported in the Ternopol region, the only Ukrainian area having a flu epidemic, head of the regional health department Bogdan Onyskiv told a Tuesday press conference. Doctors explained the deaths of young and physically fit persons with flu complications. The flu epidemic in western Ukraine started two weeks ago, yet the type of the virus is still unknown. “It is possible to name the type of the flu only in ten days. Ukrainian and British doctors are making tests. The final results will be announced once a London laboratory confirms them,” Onyskiv said. The Ternopol region has over 10,000 flu cases. Public events are prohibited, and 109 schools with 42,000 students are under quarantine. Experts explain the early cold and flu outbreak with a sharp drop of temperatures a week before the beginning of the heating season. The region did not have flu epidemics for the past five or seven years. The local residents had no immunity from flu. An increase of the cold and flu rate was reported from all the Ukrainian regions, but the situation is generally stable, a source at the Ukrainian Health Ministry said. The rate is high in Chernigov, Lvov, Kiev, Vinnitsa, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporozhye and Kharkov.

Situation Update No. 7

On 31.10.2009 at 11:18 GMT+2

The death toll from a swine flu outbreak in Ukraine rose to 34 on Saturday, as the government announced new measures to control the spread of the virus. Two of the victims were infants, Health Minister Vasyl Kniazevych said. As of Saturday morning, the flu was thought still to be limited in to the country's western provinces, but because of the number of suspected cases, a spread was likely, he said. 'The country must prepare for a wider outbreak,' Kniazevych said. 'Its direction of movement is towards central Ukraine.' More than 80,000 people in the swine flu outbreak area were registered with authorities as displaying possible flu symptoms, but because of the similarity of swine flu symptoms to those of common flu, health workers were struggling to estimate the extent of the swine flu's spread, Kniazevych said. 'We had a problem with identifying the (swine flu) antibody in flu sufferers,' he said. 'There is a mass of work we have to do.' Panic purchasing of flu remedies, surgical masks, and even citrus fruits took place in most major cities in the former Soviet republic. The swine flu deaths thus far have been limited to the nine western provinces, most along the borders with Slovakia, Poland, and Romania. Shortages of over-the-counter medicines used to treat the common flu were reported as far away as the eastern city Zaporizhia, some 900 kilometres from the epicentre of the outbreak. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was scheduled to hold an emergency meeting with regional health officials Saturday, to discuss new disease control measures.

Invoking a rarely-used law allowing the state to take temporary control of private property, Tymoshenko declared all health-related organizations in the country, including privately-owned health clinics and hospitals, to be 'directly subordinate' to the government, effective immediately. The government would pay particular attention to medical supply retailers, to head off artificial goods shortages and price gouging, she said, in comments reported by the Unian news agency. Retail price spikes of as much as 300 per cent for cold and flu remedies have taken place in recent years in Ukraine, during avian flu outbreaks. Tymoshenko claimed privately-operated chemists in the country were 'absolutely supplied in full volume with all necessary medical supplies,' contradicting spot reports of shortages. Trains operated by the national railroad Ukrzhelesnitsiya were running according to schedule, but staff were ordered to wear surgical masks, and instructed to report passengers who appear to have flu symptoms.

Medical personnel aboard 'every passenger train' were available to provide first aid to potential flu sufferers, and would report people treated to the Health Ministry, according to statement on the Ukrzhelesnitsiya website. Traffic in Ukrainian airports and intercity highways meanwhile appeared to be at normal levels despite a call by Tymoshenko for Ukrainians to avoid long-distance travel if possible. Traffic police and airport security personnel have been briefed to screen travellers visually, Tymoshenko said. All schools, kindergartens, and universities were closed for a three-week period on Friday. A ban on massed gatherings - forcing the wholesale cancellation of concerts and political rallies - was also in effect. Ukraine's national security council on Friday approved the equivalent of 55 million dollars in emergency funding, for swine flu control. President Viktor Yushchenko on Friday put the number of deaths from swine flu at 11 and said the country was 'in serious need' of foreign assistance.

Situation Update No. 6

On 31.10.2009 at 04:47 GMT+2

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko on Friday blamed swine flu for the death of 11 people so far, as government officials moved to head off an epidemic. Yushchenko announced the death toll at a press briefing televised nationally and described emergency measures the government was taking to control the spread of the disease. All of the suspected victims had lived in Ukraine's western provinces, and more cases of flu infection were possible, Yushchenko said. Health Minister Vasyl Kniazevych said medical personnel were monitoring 22 people in western Ukraine known to have shown swine flu symptoms, with one case confirmed, according an Interfax report. Thirty people, including a child, who suffered from flu-like symptoms have died in the western provinces since October 19, but the cause of their deaths "was not necessarily swine flu ... we are still investigating these cases," Kniazevych said. Twelve of the victims lived in Lviv province, 12 in the Ternopil province and six in the Ivano-Frankisk province, according to Health Ministry data. Bohdan Oniskiv, a Ternopil region health official, described the dead as almost all "young, physically healthy people."

Beyond the government figures, between four and seven other people suffering from swine flu-like symptoms died in the last week in Ukraine's Chernovetsky, Rivne, and Ternopil provinces, according to independent Ukrainian media reports. The official announcements confirming the presence of swine flu, and related deaths, came one week after reports first surfaced in local media of as many as 30 deaths potentially caused by the virus, all in the country's western provinces. "Unfortunately, we can state that there is in fact a swine flu epidemic in the country," Kniazevych told a press conference in Kiev. "We have a lot of work to do." The National Security Council, headed by Yushchenko, on Friday held an emergency closed session to discuss anti-swine flumeasures. Assistance to Ukraine from the World Health Organisation and other international assistance agencies could be "critical" in limiting the extent of the swine flu outbreak, but Health Ministry leadership believes "we have sufficient medical supplies to deal with the disease," Kniazevych said. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko ordered a massive and unprecedented disease-control programme to go into effect immediately in an attempt to prevent the spread of the disease. Schools nationwide are to close for three weeks, and "all mass gatherings will be forbidden," Tymoshenko said, in comments reported by Channel 5 television.

Situation Update No. 5

On 30.10.2009 at 19:00 GMT+2

As the world enters the H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic season, another possible virus emerges as 30 people in the Eastern European country of Ukraine have died from this latest flu. Each country is dealing with their own cases of the H1N1 Swine Flu and many have even taken the vaccination but is H1N1 the only flu out there? A viral infection in Ukraine has taken the lives of 30 people and at first it seemed like an ordinary flu but after a week the symptoms became worse.

Radio Netherlands Worldwide reports 40,000 Ukrainians have contracted the disease and at least 100 are in the hospital. Tests are currently being conducted and all is known is that it is not the H1N1 Swine Flu. A large number of schools and childcare facilities are being shut down, especially in the city of Lvov. Also, government agencies are handing out surgical masks and gloves to people in the western part of Ukraine.

However, Russia Today is reporting that it is A/H1N1 or Californian Flu and the total number of deaths is closer to 40. Prime Minister Timoshenko stated, “Express-tests cannot provide a hundred percent verification of the virus, they give only 50% accuracy. That’s why blood probes of those who died were sent to special laboratories for further testing. And only this morning it was confirmed that at least 11 deaths were caused by the A/H1N1 virus.” The Ukrainian government is calling for international aid to help fight their epidemic and President Yushchenko believes the country needs more than $6 million to battle the epidemic(s). Wolne Media have also reported that the symptoms have been diagnosed as pneumonia. Furthermore, four patients in the hospital in Lviv Oblast have been confirmed to have “very severe pneumonia” after contracting the influenza.

Situation Update No. 4

On 30.10.2009 at 12:16 GMT+2

Ministry of Health has not established the exact diagnosis of the epidemic disease in the western regions of Ukraine. Health Minister Vasyl Knyazevich has given information about spread of diseases in the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Regions today at the meeting of Cabinet of Ministers. According to the Minister, the World Health Organization is ready to render assistance to Ukrainian experts and the Ministry of Health in order to establish the cause of death and development of disease flu in the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Regions. "We are working at receiving the vaccine against influenza A (H1N1) also", - said Vasily Knyazevich and asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to render assistance. Answering question of Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko about the definition of the specific nature of the disease, the head of the Ministry of Health said: "The nature of infections is viral one. But at the moment it is not defined, is it the Californian influenza H1N1, or it is our seasonal influenza. To date, there is no precise diagnosis."

In turn, First Deputy Prime Minister Olexander Turchynov urged "not to slow in the matter, and hold a conference tomorrow," and noted that preliminary information about the nature of infections will be received tonight. According to the Minister of Health, to date, 12 adults have died in the Ternopil Region. "There are problems, people of working age 20-45 years are sick, there is a problem with pregnant women (we have the death in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil Regions), 17 patients remain in the grave condition, 4 of them have artificial pulmonary ventilation", - said Vasily Knyazevych. According to the Minister, leading international experts, particularly from Russia and Europe, will be involving into establishing the diagnosis. He noted that the Ivano-Frankivsk region reached the epidemic threshold. 6 deaths are registered there which are related to this situation. Also, the Minister of Health noted that the climatic and temperature conditions in the Ternopil Region did not lead to the development of disease in these regions.

In turn, Yulia Tymoshenko ordered before the end of today's meeting of the government to bring her all the data, the estimates associated with the epidemic disease as a draft form. She also ordered Oleksander Turchynov to consider the issue of informing the public through the video and broadcast that person should avoid work and study if he has signs of cold, and urgently appeal to the doctor. In addition, Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Health to send special circulars, which contain instructions for the doctors in this situation, to all hospitals of Ukraine, and to explore the amount of necessary additional funding to counteract an outbreak of viral diseases in the western areas. In connection with the spread of flu quarantine has been declared in schools in the Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk Regions.

04:10 p.m.

Despite the fact that doctors do not state that epidemic of swine flu has started in Ukraine, the facts speak for themselves: a man died in Transcarpathia. Precisely swine flu killed him. According to reports, a week ago the man returned from Saint Petersburg, where he was on a business trip, with symptoms of cold, but sought medical treatment only when the health condition was already critical: there were complications in the form of inflammation of the lungs and pulmonary edema. Doctors and specialists of the Transcarpathian regional sanitary-epidemiological station previously recognized swine flu as the cause of death, but in connection with the complexity of the final laboratory tests the cause of death of the man has not yet succeeded, reports Obozrevatel. Another patient with symptoms of swine flu has been hospitalized to regional infectious diseases hospital in Uzhhorod. The resident of Koritnyany village, Uzhhorod district recently returned from Moscow, and felt a deterioration of health. Doctors are confident due to the timely treatment the patient will recover. Today in Uzhhorod a press conference is planned to be held involving specialists of the Office of Health and State Administration. It will be held at 03:30 a.m. in the regional center of health.

As MIGnews.com.ua correspondent has learned, a group of specialists of Transcarpathian regional sanitary-epidemiological station has left for investigation of a fatal case in Volovets village, whence the deceased comes from. Doctors say that it would be too difficult to confirm the presence of swine influenza in the region - in Ukraine there are no special methods and technical capabilities, Vitaly Logos, MIGnews.com.ua correspondent reports. An epidemic of A/H1N1 influenza may appear in November in Ukraine, told the director of the Ukrainian Center of influenza and acute respiratory infections Olexander Hrynevich. "Most likely, it will appear when the weather deteriorates. People will be cold”,- said Hrynevich.

05:22 p.m.

21 people have died in three western regions of Ukraine, according to preliminary data, of pneumonia, ForUm reports. Swine influenza has not been found, but the final results will be known in two days, when the additional tests will be spent in London. Olexandr Hrynevich assured that Ukrainian epidemiologists have been prepared for the epidemic of influenza A/H1N1, reports ForUm. According to him, the state has reserves of disinfection means, necessary tests to identify A/H1N1 have been purchased, places for treatment of patients have been prepared. Hrynevich suggests that an epidemic of swine flu may start soon in Ukraine. Today, on October 29, it has become known about another case of death from pneumonia in Chernivtsi. Ministry of Health calls on all citizens if symptoms of influenza or other acute respiratory viral diseases appear, go to hospital immediately. Due to the epidemiological situation the trip of President Victor Yushchenko to the Lviv Region may fail, Glavred cites the chief state sanitary doctor of the Lviv region Roman Pavliv as saying. On Saturday, October 31, business trip of President of Ukraine to the Lviv Region is planned to be on the occasion of the establishment of the West Ukrainian National Republic.

Three members of Ukraine’s embassies are being checked by doctors on influenza A (H1N1), Foreign Minister Petro Poroshenko reported. "There was information that the three officials of embassies are suspected of being ill with virus A (H1N1). All necessary facilities were provided for treatment and diagnostics," - he said. Petro Poroshenko said that the Foreign Ministry established a fund for immediate disbursement of funds for treatment in cases where the health of members of diplomatic missions of Ukraine is under threat. The Ministry is also developing mechanisms for temporary insurance for diplomats working in countries where the epidemiological threat or an emergency for their social protection are declared, Ukrainian News reported.

05:39 p.m.

Doctors are calling on citizens not to vaccinate against influenza, because such vaccination in the midst of the epidemic may injure the health, coordinator of epidemic influenza in Lviv Miron Borysevich claimed at a press conference, proUA.com reports. "When an outbreak of influenza begins, nobody is being vaccinated. From the point of view of epidemiology this can not be done because it is harmful. It may harm the patient," - he said. At the same time, doctors advise not to communicate with people who are sick. If you have to contact with sick people, use flu masks.

A closed meeting has been held in Ivano-Frankivsk, at which participants agreed that epidemic of the so-called "pneumonic plague" is being spread throughout Ukraine. But the problem is its form is unknown, it is ATYPICAL nobody knows how to treat it.

PNEUMONIC PLAGUE has an acute course than other forms, over and is accompanied by a very high mortality rate. The incubation period of primary pneumonic plague rarely exceeds more than 1-4 days. It begins, as a rule, suddenly - with shivering, fever, headache, myalgia, weakness, nausea. The symptoms of pneumonia - cough with phlegm, chest pain, shortness of breath - usually appear on the second day of the disease. Blood spitting, growing respiratory disorders, heart failure, respiratory failure, shock are being observed. In primary pneumonic plague phlegm usually is watery or mucinous, foamy, with blood or visibly bloody. A secondary pneumonic plague occurs as interstitial pneumonia. Phlegm is scanty and more dense and viscous than in primary pulmonary plague. It is believed that in this regard, patients are less contagious.

As a reminder, yesterday, on October 28 flu epidemic in the Ternopil Region, which had appeared a week ago, mowed down nearly 10,000 of residents. Moreover - unknown virus has already killed seven people. Ministry of Health has confirmed 20 deaths from pneumonia in Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Regions.

Situation Update No. 3

On 30.10.2009 at 03:10 GMT+2

Health Ministry is trying to identify the deadly virus that has killed at least 30 people in western Ukraine so far. An unknown virus is afflicting thousands in western Ukraine, according to health authorities who say at least 30 people have died this month alone from the mysterious ailment. The death toll is expected to grow higher soon. As of Oct. 29, Ukraine’s Health Ministry had not yet determined whether the recent deaths are related to the global outbreak of the H1N1 "swine flu" virus, but they admitted to sending more than 1,200 doses of Tamiflu, the antiviral drug used to treat H1N1, to western Ukraine. Thus far, there have been only two confirmed cases of swine flu in Ukraine, according to health officials, who have expressed confidence that the country is ready to combat the virus should an outbreak occur. But fears about the possible onset of a swine flu pandemic in Ukraine increased on Oct. 27 after media reported that a man from Zakarpattya Oblast had died of swine flu complications. The diagnosis has not been confirmed. “Ukraine’s Health Ministry has convened an emergency team to identify the virus and identify measures to prevent it from spreading,” Health Minister Vasyl Knyazevych said on Oct. 29 during a cabinet meeting. “Specialists on the team are working around the clock and we are confident that we will be able to identify the cause [of the deaths] on Monday or Tuesday next week and announce preventative measures,” Knyazevych said.

“Some 10 people have perished in Ternopil Oblast, and several in the Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts,” Deputy Health Minister Oleksandr Bilovol said a day earlier during a press conference in Kyiv. He added that all victims were less than 45 years of age. “The individuals died of viral pneumonia, the cause of which we have not yet determined,” said Bilovol, adding that health officials are awaiting the results of laboratory tests. “According to our data, the number of deaths due to viral pneumonia is a little higher than last year.” More than 6,000 people in Ukraine died of pneumonia in 2008, according to Health Ministry statistics, with 400 fatalities registered in the Ternopil, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts. Bilovol said during the press conference that 34 individuals of the 160 patients currently afflicted are in critical condition. He said that most of the people who died waited too long — one week — before seeking medical assistance. Health officials say they will need several days to determine whether the cases are, indeed, swine flu. In neighboring Russia, meanwhile, the H1N1 virus is definitely making the rounds. Since June, about 1,300 cases of H1N1 have been registered in Russia by health officials, who have urged people not to panic.

“Two women are believed to have died of the influenza A/H1N1 virus,” a spokesman for eastern Siberia’s Chita region said on Oct. 27, adding that official confirmation of the causes of death would only be available in 21 days. As of Oct. 29, the number of patients in the region diagnosed with swine flu grew to 251, according to Natalya Zhdanova, deputy governor of Chita region. She said seven patients were in critical conditions. Ukraine has set up a laboratory that can test for the H1N1 virus and more test kits are planned to be purchased. Ukraine’s strategy has been to contain the H1N1 virus and impede its spread among the population by surveillance in airports and train stations.

Situation Update No. 2

On 30.10.2009 at 02:43 GMT+2

Western Ukraine was hit by a severe epidemic of unidentified influenza, tentatively diagnosed by doctors as viral pneumonia. The number of dead has climbed dramatically. Doctors advise Western Ukrainians to stay at home and use preventive medication. The first pedestrians wearing face masks have been seen on Lviv streets. Lviv kindergartens and schools have been closed, and the city council is to have its emergency session soon to address the flue outbreak. So far, the information released by the authorities on the epidemic dimensions spread and preventive measures is scarce, causing panic to spread in the city.

Ternopil Oblast: As the number of sick persons increases, the authorities describe the situation as rather serious, says Ternopil oblast chief medical officer Bohdan Onyskiv. “In all, 262 patients are treated in hospitals, of these 16 in serious condition. !* children have died in rural areas and 70 in Ternopil,” he says. Onyskiv confirmed that they died from viral pneumonia. The main cause of their death is that sick Ukrainians were too late requesting medical help, most of them on the 5th or 6th day of the disease. They stayed at home, trying to treat themselves, visiting hospitals when it was too late. The disease has a distinct viral nature, complicating treatment, he added.

Lviv Oblast: Five persons have died from the flue in Lviv, four men and one woman, says emergency hospital chief doctor Myron Borysevych. Two of the dead patients were in the 22-35 age group, with 2 others over 60. He diagnosed the disease as viral pneumonia. “We have sent the analyses to Kyiv. We don’t believe it’s the swine flue. Neither do we know what kind of pneumonia it is,

Borysevych stressed. Viral tests can last from one to two weeks. They are complicated and not done in Lviv. The course of the disease was very quick. The symptoms included very high temperature and short-wind cough. The disease started as an ordinary chill with headache and temperature. The symptoms lasted for a week before patient condition began to aggravate.

Zakarpattya Oblast: A man has died from the swine flue in Volovets. He has recently returned from Saint Petersburg, Russia, suffering from a cold. He was rushed to the hospital when pneumonia symptoms were found by doctors. Another local who came from Moscow became sick and went to see his doctor in time. Now he is recovering safely.

Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast: All the six dead young people had symptoms of severe hemmorhagic pneumonia. The disease starts slowly, with temperature rising to 37.2 – 37.3 degrees, slight cough and pain in joints. Nasal catarrh developed at the end of the second or third day. Autopsy revealed that the lungs were soaked with blood, the oblast chief specialist said.

Chernivtsi Oblast: The number of persons with common flue in Chernivtsi has grown from 2,623 to 4,053. According to the local medical authorities, the city has been hit by an unknown type of the flue. The tests to identify the virus will be ready only in 2 weeks, doctors say.

Situation Update No. 9

On 01.11.2009 at 03:48 GMT+2</B>

The death toll from a swine flu outbreak in Ukraine has risen to nearly 50, President Viktor Yushchenko announced Saturday, having put the number of dead at only 11 the day before. Quoted by the Interfax news agency, Yushchenko said the epidemic was spreading at a furious pace, with a total of 48 deaths and around 150,000 people sick. The president said that alone in Lviv region in the country's west, more than 60,000 people had been infected with the H1N1 virus. All schools, kindergartens, and universities were closed for a three-week period on Friday. Trains operated by the national railroad Ukrzhelesnitsiya were running according to schedule, but staff were ordered to wear surgical masks, and instructed to report passengers who appear to have flu symptoms. Medical personnel aboard "every passenger train" were available to provide first aid to potential flu sufferers, and would report people treated to the Health Ministry, according to statement on the Ukrzhelesnitsiya website.

Situation Update No. 8

On 01.11.2009 at 03:02 GMT+2</B>

Ukraine’s swine flu epidemic is spreading at an alarming rate. The number of deaths has risen to nearly 50. President Viktor Yushchenko made the announcement, having put the number of victims at 11 just 24 hours earlier. The latest figures suggest 150,000 are sick with H1N1. Schools, universities and playgroups have been closed for the next three weeks. Mass gatherings have also been banned. Panic buying of masks and flu remedies is sweeping the country according to local media reports. The government also announced an emergency package of 40 million euros to go towards anti-swine flu measures. One woman queuing for medicine said: “What can I say? There is no medicine in the chemists. How come nobody prepared for this epidemic? Children are sick. The elderly are sick. There are no masks, not even basic pills. People are queuing and waiting for supplies to come, but nobody knows if they will come or not.” The price of flu medicines rose by as much as 300 per cent in Ukraine during the previous bird flu outbreak.

I wonder why a couple of these updates were dated from back in January 2009.

I haven't gone to WHO yet...but not sure I am totally buying this. As usual, we try to prep for the worse case scenario...so this just reminds us to be vigilant...

They do their dates backwards from us.... we do 11-1-09, they do 1-11-09 so it is current.

I will have to ask my brother since he goes to Ukraine from time to time on mission trips.

They wanted to live there 6 months out of the year, then come back here for 6 months but they have not gotten permission from the govt.

Thanks Violet...didn't catch that about the flipped date.

Many thanks to the OP for this story. Still nothing here on the news and I don't know what to think about that.

I have a bad feeling about this one. I've emailed my friends and family so they can monitor as they seem appropriate and encouraged at least a little bit of food and water storage so they don't have to expose themselves to the masses if they don't have to. Most of them are Sheeple and will see me as a Worry-Wort no matter what. So be it. At least I warned them if things head South in a bad way.

Thanks so much for you guys keeping up with this thread. I have not been able to sit down with it this weekend....I am usually a little reluctant to post anything from abovesecret.com WITHOUT my own disclosure of...

please disregard the nutty stuff and sift through at your own risk...lol...there are some crazy things on there BUT I have gotten a heads up on things there that didn't hit the news until later.

I really thought this would be of interest and I just wonder if this could be the reason for the declaration of a National Emergency? They knew to expect this...and it just hasn't hit us here?

IDK..I'm sceptical of all of it. I don't plan to take the vaccine...don't know if Swine is legitimate or some ploy...I'm just preparing for anything I guess. Now that I have a little time I'm going to see what I can find and post.

One more thought I can't get out of my mind. Remeber I posted on here at the first of Sept (I believe) about the student in our district who had flu like symptoms and died in the waiting room. When they tried to recesitate him they said blood was everywhere and he was bleeding from nose and mouth profusely. The CDC took over and noone ever heard another word.

I would say this article would drive home the reason we all prep....

Swine flu fear grips Ukraine as death toll dramatically rises

Ukraine residents have begun panic-buying face masks and influenza medicines as the death toll from the country's swine flu epidemic rises dramatically in 24 hours.

The President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, announced to the country today that the death toll from the H1N1 virus has risen to 50, a dramatic rise from his announcement twenty-hours previously when he'd announced that the toll was 11.

The swine flu epidemic appears to be spreading rapidly in Ukraine with latest figures suggesting that 150,000 people are ill with the virus.

As a preventative measure, for the next three weeks all playgroups, schools and universities will remain closed and the government has also banned mass gatherings as a precaution.

The government, looking at setting up anti-swine flu measures, have announced a package worth 40 million Euros.

Since the bird flu epidemic a few years ago the price of flu medications in Ukraine has risen as much as 300 per cent.

As an indication of the worry and fear the Ukrainian people are feeling one lady who was queuing for flu medications gave this account, “What can I say? There is no medicine in the chemists. How come nobody prepared for this epidemic? Children are sick. The elderly are sick. There are no masks, not even basic pills. People are queuing and waiting for supplies to come, but nobody knows if they will come or not.”

Bold print added by me

Has Baxter International released a biological weapon?

David Rothscum Reports

November 1, 2009

Evidence appears to suggest that Baxter International is responsible for a new deadly outbreak of viral pneumonia in Ukraine.

In February of 2009 Bloomberg reported that Baxter “accidentally” send vaccine material containing both live Avian bird flu and seasonal influenza to multiple laboratories worldwide. A laboratory decided to test the vaccine on it’s ferrets, but the ferrets all unexpectedly died. It must be noted that Baxter has made a “mistake” like this before. Blood products produced by Baxter once containd HIV. Thousands of haemophiliacs died due to this, and many went on to infect their spouses.

Later in the year, a bizarre story emerged on the internet. The Huffington Post reported on a a man named Joseph Moshe who was arrested after a hours long standoff with the police because he had supposedly made threats against the White House. The man was able to withstand multiple rounds of tear gas.

However, the internet community was very skeptical of the true reasons behidn this man’s arrest. Comments on the Huffington Post website immediately began pouring in about an unreported side to this story, namely that Joseph Moshe was a Mossad Agent specialized in biological warfare who called into a radio show to warn people about a biological weapn that was being made by Baxter international that would be spread through vaccine and would cause a plague upon it’s release.

Although anyone can make a doomsday claim and we should never believe anyone (and it must be said that the Truth movement handled this well, the message was spread without being proclaimed as gospel) the amazing part about Moshe’s claim was the location where Moshe said the biological weapon was being produced.

Moshe claimed that Baxter’s laboratory in the Ukraine out of all places was creating this biological weapon. All of this came out in the beginning of August, which is more than 2 months before the situation that is currently unfolding. For Moshe to correctly name the country where a new epidemic would be unleashed, requires either inside information, or an incredible coincidence as anyone with a basic knowledge of statistics can confirm for himself.

Let us assume for a moment that every person on our planet has an equal chance of giving rise to a new lethal epidemic due to a virus that mutates as it spreads through his body. The Ukraine has 46 million inhabitants. The current estimated global population is about 6.7 billion. This means that if a new epidemic were to arise, the chance of this epidemic starting in the Ukraine would be 0.69%. However, it appears that this virus is a form of flu. This makes the odds of being right when guessing that a deadly flu is going to break out in the Ukraine even smaller. The reason for this is that back in early August the vast majority of influenza infections were found in different countries than the Ukraine. In fact, on 30 Oktober, Earthtimes reported that Ukraine had officially reported only two cases of swine flu, and no deaths, until last Friday. This deadly epidemic appears to have arrived out of nowhere in the Ukraine.

Moshe’s biomed profile appears to confirm his position as a microbiologist. Furthermore, this page with Baxter’s contact information for it’s Ukraine office confirms that Baxter has a presence in the Ukraine.

It must also be noted that massive numbers of microbiologists have been dying bizarre deaths. This case of what appears to be a brave man who sacrificed it all to bring us this message may explain why so many microbiologists have been murdered. The fact that this man managed to predict an outbreak of highly lethal influenza in a place where we would least expect it, 2 months before it a actually occured, lends credence to his claim that Baxter International is responsible for the outbreak and shows that top microbiologists can pose a problem to the people responsible for this ongoing disaster.

This is a developing story, expect to see possible updates on David Rothscum Reports as more information on what is happening in Ukraine becomes available.

Update 1: For the purpose of keeping information from disappearing, I am going to mirror most information I can find on here.

Comments on the Huffington post website on an article about Moshe’s arrest documenting his claim that the Influenza virus in a vaccine manufactured by Baxter in Ukraine replicates RNA from the 1918 flu and is meant as a bioweapon:

Update 2: The Ukrainian government wants to impose travel restrictions on people across the nation to stop the virus from spreading.

Update 3: According to the Huffington post comments I cited above, Dr. Moshe claimed that the virus used replicated RNA of the 1918 Spanish flu. Symptoms of the 1919 Flu include victims being drenched in blood:

American were familiar with the flu; it sent you to bed, made you miserable for 3 or 4 days with fever, muscle aches, and congestion, then left you shaky for about a week. It made millions sick, yet killed only the oldest, youngest, and most feeble.

The 1918 influenza was not the flu Americans were familiar with. It was a horror that turned victims bluish-black then drowned them with their own body fluids. the death toll was highest in the ages 15 to 40, those in the peak of health. The victims would be fine one minute and the next incapacitated, fever-racked, and delirious. Temperatures rose to 104-106 degrees, skin turned blue, purple, or deep brown from lack of oxygen. Massive pneumonia attacked the lungs, filling them with fluid; blood gushed from the nose. Death was quick, savage, and terrifying.

Compare this to reports that are coming out from Ukraine:

Five persons have died from the flue in Lviv, four men and one woman, says emergency hospital chief doctor Myron Borysevych.

Two of the dead patients were in the 22-35 age group, with 2 others over 60. He diagnosed the disease as viral pneumonia.

Viral tests can last from one to two weeks. They are complicated and not done in Lviv. The course of the disease was very quick. The symptoms included very high temperature and short-wind cough.

All the six dead young people had symptoms of severe hemmorhagic pneumonia. The disease starts slowly, with temperature rising to 37.2 – 37.3 degrees, slight cough and pain in joints. Nasal catarrh developed at the end of the second or third day. Autopsy revealed that the lungs were soaked with blood, the oblast chief specialist said.

Okay this was posted by two people from another site I go to, they say they're from the Ukraine and this is what they posted yesterday and today. I can't veryify their actually from there, so take it with a grain of salt, but this is what they wrote:

"I'm writing to you from one of the cities of the Western Ukraine. From the heart of this virus epidemic you may say.

The situation here is interesting. People are pretty scared (for example streets are almost empty. Those who periled their lives to get out of their "sweet homes" wear protection masks, and they look like the second Chernobyl's happening over there.

What's more interesting - there are 5 lethal cases in 2(!) days and there are very many people in really bad condition. The problem is that this illness is developing so fast that people that are just going to visit a doctor are dying on his hands. (this information is confirmed by my sources in local hospitals (doctors that are working there in epidemic section) ).

In addition there's confirmed information about chemicals sprinkling over big cities. They're doing this in the middle of the day (Yesterday in the Ternopil), although I didn't see helicopters above my city (maybe because I just was at home through the whole day).

Also towns and cities (even Kyiv) suffer from the lack of medicine.

The situation here is developing dramatically fast. I'll try to inform you about everything that will occur here"

2nd Post from same person:

"Here we have 40 deaths in Ternopil already (unofficial information, however confirmed by my sources in Ternopil hospitals)

So unofficial statistic - minimum 200 deaths in Western Ukraine. And 12 in our city."

From another person that lives there:

"Hi everyone. I'm fron Western Ukraine, Lviv region (small town 45m north from Lviv called Chervonohrad). You just can't imagine what **** is happening round here. People in panic buy up all medicine. Chemists are sold out. In Kyiv all hostels are closed for visitors, 90% of all students went home. Three-week quarantine for all educational institutions was established all over the country. Hostel administration in my university issued a decree for students to leave their rooms till this Monday.

Ternopil, the epicenter of this malady, was closed for a military quarantine. In Lviv people are completely scared. Everyone wears gauze masks and gets out of home only in the last resort.

Also a few days ago, after the midnight some chemical baloney from helicopters was sprinkled above Ternopil and Lviv.

Queues at the railroad stations are incredible…

With bated breath, people sit in their homes, taking medicines, eating garlic and onions, and watching TV news from our tinhorn government.

Yeah, that’s the lifestyle of the present- day Ukraine."

So I don't know, that doesn't sound good from either of them.

That other site is really down playing it more now. Making it sound like its all because of politics and elections coming soon. The WHO is there too. I guess we'll find out....well maybe we'll get some story. Who knows if it will be the truth or not.

The person that is in the Ukraine that is posting on abovesecret.com kept mentioning planes or helicopters flying. He said he had never heard that before and then he later reported something being sprinkled. They then came out with a news story...I'll try to find it and post.

As for the spraying - there is a response plan called "aeroclave" which calls for spraying a form of hydrogen peroxide out of airplanes. The PHD who invented it went on to found a company called "aeroclave" which provides the same service for vehicles and buildings. The UK ministry of health is the only agency to publish in the open about it but if you search around you can find it. I wouldn't venture outdoors while spraying is going on just to be safe but I wouldn't assume its a bio-weapon either.

The above quote came from someone that I have followed on abovetopsecret before. Whoever he is...I found him to be very credible and knowledgeable. At times I have read through just looking and reading his post. He goes by Ecoparity.

60 people have already died in Ukraine. Ministry of Health requests silence (updated at 11:19 am)

MIGnews.com.ua

According to the latest data of Ministry of Health, as of 05:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, the number of people who are ill with influenza and acute respiratory disease in Ukraine, have increased to 191,000 people, 83,000 out of them are children under 18 years.

More than 7,000 people have been hospitalized. Out of them 123 people are in intensive care department. As a result of the epidemic, 60 people died in the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv and Volyn Regions. In the Volyn region, in particular, the first fatal case has been recorded. The greatest number of deaths is in the Lviv Region - 29 people.

Health Minister Vasyl Knyazevych urges politicians not to raise panic around the influenza epidemic within a week "We have problems, as well as throughout the world," - said Minister in the air of 1+1. "I would ask the politicians to give an opportunity in the broadcasting, I appeal to the leaders of air, to give doctors an opportunity to speak”, - said Vasyl Knyazevych.

According to him, there are cases of disease and in Kiev, "but they are not confirmed." "We have not got a single case of Kiev, confirmed by laboratory", - stressed the Minister.

"After we diagnosed the Californian flu, the flu, this flu exists in Ukraine, it circulates throughout the world. We have gone into a state of the pandemic, which was announced by the World Health Organization," - he said. "The measures which we are taking are intended for the whole country", - said Vasyl Knyazevych.

He said that there is no categorical ban on the movement of people from region to region. "This is not a state of emergency. Only in the state of emergency Armed Forces and the police can guarantee order. We just recommend to abstain from such visits and trips", - stressed the Minister.

On weekends the number of visitors to cinemas has been reduced dramatically. The additional measures of disinfection are being taken in cinemas. The same is in some restaurants of Kyiv.

One of the main problems is the lack of preventive and therapeutic means. In particular, there is a lack of bulky dressings, Arbidol and Tamiflu drugs, oxolinic ointment which have been recommended by the World Health Organization for treatment of swine influenza.

Thus, hospitals in the Chernivtsi Regions received more than a thousand packages of Tamiflu. "But the Region needs ten times more", - said deputy chairman of the Chernivtsi Regional State Administration Borys Baglei.

Deficiency of Tamiflu might be made up both at the expense of domestic capacity, and supplies from abroad. In particular, according to the head of the Kharkiv regional state administration, the pharmaceutical companies of the region "are ready to organize production of Tamiflu in two weeks.

Yesterday, on November 1 the Lviv region received the first part of humanitarian aid from Poland: artificial respirators, 100,000 flu masks and drug Tamiflu.

Commenting on the statement of Kharkiv Region governor Arsen Avakov that pharmaceutical companies are ready to organize production of effective flu drug within two weeks, Vasyl Knyazevych said: "We support them, we have registered the drug and its production."

According to the Minister, "this is not the original drug”. However, Vasyl Knyazevych noted that the World Health Organization recommends drug Tamiflu.

It is worth noting that today at night aircraft AN-12 arrived with an antiviral drug Tamiflu at the international airport Boryspil from Switzerland. Health Minister Vasyl Knyazevych claimed that 300,000 doses of drug Tamiflu, which arrived today at night in Kyiv, will be enough for one week for Ukraine.

The plane with valuable cargo was met by Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, the head of the Presidential Secretariat Vera Ulyanchenko and Foreign Minister Petro Poroshenko at the airport, the presidential press office reports.

"President of Ukraine appreciates efficient realization by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and his head of his orders and decisions of the Security and Defense Council of Ukraine to provide Ukraine with assistance to fight with influenza flu," - said the head of the Presidential Secretariat Vera Ulyanchenko. On behalf of the Head of State, she expressed appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for efficient work. "I would like to congratulate Ukraine that we have received the cargo we need so much in a very short time," - said Vera Ulyanchenko. Head of the Secretariat expressed the hope that the arrival of today's cargo is only the first sign in providing Ukraine with effective assistance in the fight against the epidemic.

11:19 a.m. "It will be enough to provide all regions of Ukraine with this medicine. It will be brought in hospitals and it will be given to people for free", - Tymoshenko said, adding that next week Ukraine will be provided with 300,000 doses of this drug.

Vera Ulyanchenko also reminded that President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko sent letters to the President of the European Commission, the Secretary General of NATO, the leaders of Belarus, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and the United States of America with arequest to help Ukraine. She, in particular, reminded that some humanitarian assistance, in particular, masks, have already been delivered to the Lviv Region in the framework of cooperation between this Region and several provinces of Poland.

Vera Ulyanchenko expressed special appreciation to the company F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd, for the decision to offer our state medicines at low cost (Hr 67 for one package, which would save hr 140 mn of budget funds).

The head of the Presidential Secretariat hopes that the presence of Prime Minister at the airport today will promote the rapid clearance of drugs and their prompt delivery to all regions of Ukraine and especially in those in which the quarantined is declared due to influenza epidemic.

Vera Ulyanchenko also emphasized the inadmissibility of the speculative sale of the drug Tamiflu.

Today, on November 2, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko will hold a conference with the manufacturers of drugs and medicines at 11:00 a.m., the Cabinet’s press service reports. By materials of Ukrainskaya pravda, Kommersant-Ukraine, UNIAN

As a reminder, on October 28 flu epidemic in the Ternopil Region, which had appeared a week ago, mowed down nearly 10,000 of residents. Moreover - unknown virus has already killed seven people. Ministry of Health has confirmed 20 deaths from pneumonia in Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv Regions.

A closed meeting has been held in Ivano-Frankivsk, at which participants agreed that epidemic of the so-called "pneumonic plague" is being spread throughout Ukraine. But the problem is its form is unknown, it is ATYPICAL nobody knows how to treat it.

Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Health Lilia Hrihorovich (Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense faction) is convinced of the necessity to declare the state of emergency in five regions of Ukraine.

An epidemic of high pathogenic influenza A/H1N1 has begun when it became cold in the country, Health Minister of Ukraine Vasyl Knyazevych claimed.

A three-week vacation has been announced in all educational institutions of Ukraine. All events have been canceled in connection with epidemic of swine flu in Ukraine. Ukraine is at the highest (third) level of danger of epidemic. The State Border Committee of Belarus has sent INSTRUCTIONS to all the checkpoints on the border crossing on high alert in relation to the epidemiological situation in Ukraine. CLINICAL SIGNS OF A/H1N1 INFLUENZA ARE: headache, muscle aches, sore throat, fever, cough, runny nose, nasal stuffiness, in some cases - vomit and diarrhea.

Ok...so I added the bold and extras. I DID read this right....not only do they have Swine they also have pneumonic plague??? Am I reading that correctly?

Panic in Ukraine, Authorities deny aircraft are spraying aerosols over cities, Martial Law expected

Posted by dprogram on November 1, 2009

The office of Emergency Response in the district of Desniansko, Kiev, are tonight (30th Oct.) strongly refuting reports that light aircraft were spraying a substance over the city intended to counter a “swine flu pandemic” in Ukraine.

It was reported that light aircraft were seen over the Forest market area of the city (close to the Forest metro station) and they were spraying an aerosol substance intended to “counter swine flu”, this of course would constitute forced medication of the population.

The editors of local newspapers in Kiev received dozens of phone calls from concerned residents and shop owners in the Forest market area of the city reporting they had observed several light airplanes circling in the sky during the day spraying an unidentified aerosol into the atmosphere.

Retailers and local business people reported they were advised to “stay indoors” during the day by local authorities.

Local newspapers contacted government administrators in Kiev and were told that “no permission had been granted today (30th Oct.) for small aviation aircraft to fly within the city limits”. Also local FM radio stations in Kiev were regularly refuting the reports during broadcasts today, apparently under duress from local authorities.

Reports of helicopters and light airplanes spraying aerosols over Kiev, Lviv, Ternopil, and other cities throughout Ukraine are tonight flooding online forums and websites, hundreds of people have verified the reports with their own eye-witness accounts.

On 30th October President Viktor Yushchenko ordered the Ministry of Defense to establish mobile military hospitals throughout Ukraine, to assist and provide “essential medications” to people with swine-flu. Yushchenko has also ordered medical personnel from the reserve defense forces to report for duty.

An order from President Yushchenko is expected soon that will effectively place Ukraine under “martial law”.

“Due to the complex epidemiological situation in the western regions of Ukraine, where tens of thousands of people have become ill, thousands are in hospital, and dozens have died.”

Nine regions of Ukraine have declared a quarantine around the country and public events have been banned (including the elections). The Clergy have been ordered not to hold any Church or religious services on Sundays or to gather a congregation for any reason whatsoever. Police are also enforcing the compulsory wearing of protective face masks, any driver caught not wearing a mask faces harsh legal penalties.

Earlier, health authorities in western Ukraine reported a “severe outbreak of UNIDENTIFIED Influenza, suspected by doctors to be a form of viral pneumonia”. The disease has already claimed a number of lives in the region. In Lviv, schools have been closed and authorities are conducting emergency meetings to determine how to deal with the outbreak.
