  1. Oo oo, where in TN? General area is fine, or you can pm me!!
  2. UGH! No one cares about our food supply anymore.
  3. We already have iron working under our belt As for what I'm wanting to do with the skill? The same as everything else- know it
  4. We're slightly under thrifty, & that includes pet products & paper, etc as well (but not livestock stuff-that would likely put us right at thrifty or just barely over.).
  5. LOL! Ours would love this! He is so food driven & LURVES ice cubes! EVERY time he hears us digging in the ice box, he comes RUNNING! Imagine if those ice cubes were TASTY!!!
  6. I've been hearing LOTS of schools are going back SUPER beginning of Aug. Most got out very end of May, begnning of June, so they're down to 2 months summer.
  7. We're interested in adding cooperage to our list of know hows. Any GOOD books, videos or websites on the HOW TO's (not just the families or what it's about). I'm finding lots of books on Amazon, but I don't know if they cover tools & how to actually make buckets & barrels. I did find Old Ways of Working Wood: The Techniques and Tools of a Time Honored Craft by Alex Bealer at our library. I've reserved that to see if I want to buy it. Any other good stuff out there?
  8. Is anyone going to be just outside of Knoxville West (TN) in about 2.5 weeks? Oak Ridge has a Secret City Festival. This year it's June 13-14. I get to be a vendor this year. SUPER excited, but it would be amazing if I got to meet any of you! http://www.secretcityfestival.com/
  9. WEIRD! We're OVERLOADED with them here in TN. Have been the whole time we've lived here (2.5+ years). Hubba scoops them up all.the.time. & takes them outside. He's NEVER been bitten. (The kids & I put jars over them & gently slide cardboard under it. DO NOT like the stinkiness!!!)
  10. How do we find the coupon? We have 2 near us.
  11. I've never heard that about plain water, LOL. Never put sugar in mine, either. You are all such a weird bunch...
  12. And Twilight- thank you SO much for your responses!
  13. I found this from Northern Tool. It's listed as cast iron, around $120. Does this look at all like the one you're describing? I'll be able to use this in a well-ventilated yet enclosed space. http://www.northerntool.com/images/product/2000x2000/330/330977_2000x2000.jpg Here's a description of it- http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200408996_200408996 I definitely want something sturdy. We have a campstove. We also have a burner on our grill, but I am not gonna lug the darn thing into that building every time I want to can, LOL!
  14. Is it a camp stove do you know? I would love more info if you can get that!
  15. I know we've discussed this before, but I can't find it/them. Can you point me to the alternatives for canning stoves? We're headed into a home that has a glass flat top, so I need to figure out what I can can on instead of that. I have some alternatives in mind, but I wanted to read through to be sure.
  16. I thought of OMB all day yesterday. I miss his stories & emails.
  17. Have you tried the dye remover stuff?
  18. I hate microfiber anything- sheets, towels, cleaning cloths- ALL of it!!!
  19. *confused* !!!! Just kiddin'! Can you put your "formerly known as ..." in your siggy? I know they told me to do that. That really helps cut down on confusion
  20. Thank you, ladies!! That is so right! But this is ONE of a few big changes we're encountering that I'm PRAYING will put us back in the running for owning again!
