  1. You mentioned first cutting of sunflower seeds, will they continue to grow?
  2. Mother, I tried sprouting mung beans in a jar, rinsing them a couple times a day, but, they always, either began to rot or didn’t grow tall. I even covered the jar to protect it from light. Through trial & error, I now use an old Corning ware cake pan, with a piece of paper towel on the bottom and cover it with a black towel. DH loves his stir fry.
  3. @Jeepers Not quite the same. The Knorr is a lot like the cubed bullion, but, heavy on the tomato. Powdered tomato doesn’t have as much of the salt & spices. @snapshotmiki, excellent choice, IMHO. Keeping bullion stocked, give us a plethora of choices, when trying to break up the monotony of daily meals. Sometimes it only takes a spice to refresh a used recipe...
  4. It works great in Mexican foods, refried beans, tortilla soup, tacos, etc. It’s a main stay in our house. @Mt_Rider
  5. I watched your video, I normally don’t watch any. I remember my Grandma and mom telling that story. Always saying the moral of the story…. “Ants” reminded me of another, whenever we said ‘can’t’, mom would sing it…..
  6. Jeepers, WM has bullion, in the Mexican food section and, they had Cream of Wheat & Grits in the spice section. Guess who stocked up…. I stock the beef, chicken, and tomato bullion. 3-4 jars in storage of each, then, as I use one, I buy one. Same with all my spices. Sometimes, it’s months before I am able to find the replacements, even using on-line. DH got really insistent to go & stock up. This was the first time in months he has gone with me. He was pointing out shortages on the shelves, and I was noticing expiration dates only a few months away, on items that normally have 3-4 years. He filled the cart. I spent part of my canning wait time, jarring and putting everything up. Found 25 lbs of sugar for $12.00. He told me to do the same thing again on payday. He’s really worried about the prices and availability of things, and wants us to be prepared, JIC. If nothing happens, prices quit going up, we haven’t lost anything, but, if prices keep going up, we’re a bit ahead of the game. Very strong easterly winds today. Blew over our porch swing. I couldn’t see picking it up, as long as the wind keeps howling. Plus, it’s too heavy for me to do it by myself.
  7. Awe inspiring! I’m impressed.
  8. @gallovidian Congratulations! Doesn’t it inspire you? I’ve always enjoyed looking at and using the foods I have dehydrated and canned. @Jeepers Every year, around Thanksgiving and Christmas, we get a bag of apples to make one apple pie. The rest are sliced, soaked in sugar and cinnamon, then, dehydrated. DH puts them in his cereal. @Mother That’s something I never thought of. Can you coat them with cinnamon, and get apple cinnamon tea?
  9. Long day… started around 7 am, cutting leg quarters up, backs & the leg knuckles hit a bowl, while the rest hit the boil pan. Ten pounds of chicken, made 6 pints, bone in. Thigh & leg, plus excess meat to pack the jars. 1 jar broke in the canner, 1 didn’t seal, (For DH’s first taste of my home canned chicken.) Backs pressure cooked, with the last of my garden carrots, dehydrated celery, from the plant growing in the kitchen, and several slices of onion, a sprinkle or two or three of salt & pepper. Old, old, old fashioned chicken soup. Lol. Removed all the bones, and made 6 pints of chicken stock/soup. wanna see?
  10. (My brother sent me this) A blonde and a lawyer are seated next to each other on a flight from LA to NY. The lawyer asks if she would like to play a fun game? The blonde, tired, just wants to take a nap, politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks. The lawyer persists and explains that the game is easy and a lot of fun. He explains, "I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5.00, and vice versa. " Again, she declines and tries to get some sleep. The lawyer, now agitated, says, "Okay, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5.00, and if I don't know the answer, I will pay you $500.00." This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, agrees to the game. The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the earth to the moon?" The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches into her purse, pulls out a $5.00 bill and hands it to the lawyer. "Okay" says the lawyer, "your turn." She asks the lawyer, "What goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four legs?" The lawyer, puzzled, takes out his laptop computer and searches all his references, no answer. He taps into the air phone with his modem and searches the net and the library of congress, no answer. Frustrated, he sends e-mails to all his friends and coworkers, to no avail. After an hour, he wakes the blonde, and hands her $500.00. The blonde says, "Thank you," and turns back to get some more sleep. The lawyer, who is more than a little miffed, wakes the blonde and asks, "Well, what's the answer?" Without a word, the blonde reaches into her purse, hands the lawyer $5.00, and goes back to sleep. And you thought blondes were dumb.
  11. (Belated, as usual) Funny, I was thinking about him the other day also…
  12. Fresh… I use 2 lemons to one grapefruit in about 2-4 cups of water…(I cheat by using the pressure cooker, just to steaming, quickly turn the fire off, two times. I don’t have any other tight fitting lids.) Had to get a bag of lemons, this time, they didn’t have any singles. But, within 3 days, a couple were beginning to mold…. Quality control isn’t what it used to be. So, they turned into fresh lemon juice. A friend sent the link to me, in 2021, I tried to find the post again, but it seems it’s no longer there, but, I did keep a screen shot of part of the article. Quinine…
  13. Oh my!!! @Momo !!! Missed you a lot, been on my mind & in my prayers!!!
  14. Mt_Rider, I saw a recipe… grapefruit & lemon peals, bring to boil, then simmer for an hour or so, with a tight lid. Let cool completely before removing the lid. It is the actual ingredients in hydroxychloroquine. Even tho everyone (news) says it doesn’t work…. When we get feeling, the crud… too many customers in & out, colds, flu, whatever, I make a pint or two, frig it in canning jars & we drink a swig or two a couple times a day. Hoopla, on the net & news, says it doesn’t work, but, we’ve noticed our health improve almost within the day. Three to four days later, we don’t remember feeling ill. Oh, Jeepers… FYI, Microsoft just updated their spell check, to be more ‘woke’… so if you type anything like “mankind” it will change it to “humankind”…..
  15. Hi, any handbag that fits your needs is appropriate, IMHO. Through the years, my MIL has passed on her’s, a Fossil-pure heavy leather, a black leather Givinche, and many others that were the style to have … too many years ago. I’m a simple person, worked years in the professional fields. I found, if I had a purse that could handle, everything I needed to carry, I was content. A wallet, had to be the most impressive thing I would carry. People notice what you keep your money in, not so much the purse. When you do decide to get a good wallet, go with anything that has the RFID, types. A lot of expensive & inexpensive companies, now make them. It prevents scammers from scanning your bank cards. Personally, I like a solid leather purse. I have one that is almost 30 years old. It gets polished each year, or more, & still looks brand new, & I still get complements on it, always asking where I got it…. (I can’t remember where any more, ).
  16. Computer…. Was being hacked…the screen kept flickering… wouldn’t let me post…. my typing disappeared when I hit ‘Submit Reply’….. had to switch VPN networks…..
  17. I’m off my feet… did too much the other day, moving the mulch from the bin to the garden, then, digging it into the dirt. 8’ x 6’ - 2’ deep. Still have 6’ x 8’ to finish. Twisted my knee, then, Storm pushed into it & I’m done… I’m an active outdoors person & laying/sitting up with my legs propped, isn’t something I do, except on my day of rest. Drives me edgy not doing something. My tablet is giving me trouble, I tried to “like” everyone’s posts, but it would not let me. It also isn’t letting me access things… . <—— that’s what I want to do to it….
  18. Sorry I missed your birthday… belated. for you & yours.
  19. I’m too busy for my taste…. Haven’t even been on-line, other to check & make sure MrsS was still working…Typical for this time of year. Finished most of the necessary paperwork… A close friend, co-worker of DH’s, had “mandatory” vax , 3 times, is now down & out with the “C” crud… 4 days after being here. He got exposed at work, a couple days earlier….. Spent all day yesterday, bleaching, lysol’ing, scrubbing & washing, furniture, floors, walls, & ceilings…. Finishing today, what I wasn’t able to complete yesterday….. Need to make puppy biscuits and DH wants oatmeal raisin cookies too…
