  1. I became disabled/unemployable, the system automatically put me on Part A. DH was a fed employee with full coverage for both of us, so I didn’t choose to enroll in Part B. We choose each year, from the OPM site. Ensuring that we get a full coverage HMO, without going broke on a fixed income. Do we have to get Part B? Would there be any advantage to getting it?
  2. B_A, wonderful that you have a group. I hand sew my quilts. Sadly, I have 2 in progress, but, time to sit & sew is lacking. Someday, God willing, I will get the time to relax and finish them.
  3. Tabasco…. Nothing compares to the name brand. A-1… same thing. Lee & Parrins Worcester sauce Fritoes Verners ginger ale and… Twinkies…. Otherwise, I get the generic… WM’s Great Value mayo & coffee seem much better than name brand, just to name a few, plus, they are noticeably cheaper.
  4. The update is done. Please let us know if you notice any problems. Thank you for your patience.
  5. Ok. Anyone on here, in the morning tomorrow… (after I get up & wake up), I need to do an update… sooo.. if you get an odd screen, while it’s updating, try a couple of minutes, or so, later. Generally, (fingers crossed), it clears as soon as the update has completed. If not, and you still have trouble, post here, in this thread, or notify Midnightmom’s FB page…. Someone will call or text or email…. Especially Darleen… It seems like a standard security & maintenance update, so ‘no worries’. Have a great evening everyone…..
  6. Dad’s side, each first born male, was named after the father… 1st 2nd, 3rd, (I, II, III, IV etc.) My little brother, didn’t have a boy, so it stopped with him.
  7. My mothers side of the family has a tradition, dating back before the 1700’s, sadly I can only remember a few generations. It is on a piece of paper, given to the first born female…. ( I was 2nd born, so I didn’t get it.) …Dora… Florence Dora, Sharon Florence, AmySharon, Desiree Amy, Amanda Desiree…. Etc. Dora being born in the 1800’s. We had papers, listing all generations, but only back to the late 1800’s, early 1900’s. Hopefully, someone in the family still has them. I had them for a while & passed them on to the younger family.
  8. …unless you are like my MIL… 2 Tbs. is too much….
  9. Lol, he also did a spoof how to can dehydrated water….
  10. Ohhhh… that’s the video! Thank you so much! You’re my hero! Then, shredded potatoes take a little less time to boil, but about the same amount to dehydrate, then, rehydrate & fry.
  11. Why? Because, like my siblings, they like sending “expensive” Christmas gifts to me, they KNOW I’d never buy for myself. Sadly, almost all of it is not shelf stable. Tastes nice, but, if anyone is like me, you can taste the additives and preservatives in the products. You all are talking dehydrated potatoes, I’m gonna try to find the tutorial video for dehydrated potatoes. Sliced or shredded. They taste like store bought, but last years on the shelf….
  12. Yikes! Brrrr…. DH said it’s going to drop to the 60°s this week with a chance of rain. I’m not complaining.
  13. It’s supposed to be 93°+ today. 90° yesterday…. It’s summer here in the desert…..
  14. Ok, historical sourdough recipe, my mixture smelled rather yeasty! Made a loaf from another site, using the starter. I don’t have “bread” flour, just unbleached. I am excited it turned out so well. Absolutely no store-bought yeast… DH & MIL both liked the it, however, DH complained, the bread fell apart. So discouraged……
  15. Browsed through briefly…. Keeping everyone in my Life has been a whirlwind, with MIL & DH. I’m not complaining… just a lot more work than I am used to. Maybe all that will help me strengthen myself up some. Garden is growing, some seeds didn’t sprout. Can’t figure out why, the oregano & thyme sprouted great, but, now are dying. Hoping at least one of the dozens of seedlings keep growing. Sourdough bread, from the natural historical starter, is rising. First time making it without any store bought yeast. Gotta go…….
  16. I don’t have much time on the net lately. Please accept my sincere apology. However, I wanted to say “Hi” and Welcome Back! You all are appreciated and I am looking forward to hearing from you all. Dang… gotta go …MIL is calling me…again….
  17. “…All Things Bread…” I started some sourdough starter. Flour & water. Fed once a day, a little water & flour. Day 3, feed every 12 hours. Not a lot, just enough to encourage it to grow. Dropped off 1/2 the jar to my friend in NM, on the way to TX. She said it now has a wonderful ‘sour/yeast’ smell. Mine had to rest in the frig, while I was on my trip, but, is bubbling nicely after getting it’s feeding, and has a slight yeast/sour smell. It should be ready by the middle of next week. The first jar, divided in half, made a nice loaf, however it took 24 hours to rise. Either way, I’m impressed with not using store bought, or any yeast. I do keep Freshman's bulk yeast, in the freezer and use it when I want a ‘quick’ loaf of bread. I’m hoping this historical recipe for sourdough starter, will be something that will always keep us with bread.
  18. Home safe from TX with MIL. Getting her settled in…. Had to work on an incoming shipment yesterday, and got writers cramp this morning logging it in the books. Today I will be working on putting up the meat I got in TX. Most everything was $2-3. Less per pound, than, we can get here. So much to do, so little time… making a priority list…
  19. Long day…… Up early, finished packing & loading my vehicle. Headed to TX. A LOT of truck on the road. All went smoothly until NM, then, 5 miles in, traffic stopped. Stop & go for 17 miles, due to 1 lane of traffic on I-10, road construction…. Believe me when I say it was well overdue!!! But, it took over an hour to get past it and traffic was backed up into AZ over 22 miles. Stopped at a friends house in NM & dropped off some sourdough starter and some other things, then, rushed back to I-10 to miss the dust storm, which was moving faster than I was driving…. Anyway, made it here to TX. MIL has a ToDo list for me, and while I go meat shopping tomorrow, she will be packing the suitcases I brought for her. She is going to spend a couple of months with us. Time to get some sleep! BTW, it is AWESOME to see so many people here! Goodness it’s gonna take me a while to read through everything!!!
  20. I’ve never had mine sweat. Sometimes I forget it’s in there. Left a shipment in for a couple of months, before remembering. Yikes! But, it was fine, didn’t even smell or taste fresher burned. Jeepers, I do wrap the original packaging in a plastic bag before I shove it in the freezer. I don’t think it makes much of a difference. IDK for sure.
  21. I’ve been trying to be good too, Mother. Gave myself a “time out” from the net….. locked up my tablet & worked on the house, garden, yard, and book work…. Oh dear…. All the, old (years old) zucchini seeds sprouted! I’ve been transplanting them…. I’ve never had that happen before. Even last year, when I planted the same seeds, out of a dozen, I got 2 plants, that didn’t produce anything. The old carrot, cayenne, jalapeño, broccoli and cauliflower seeds, nothing has sprouted in a month. The seeds I saved from the hatch chilies are sprouting. I will need to transplant a couple of those, when they get bigger, if they survive. We’ve been in the mid 80’s. Yesterday, harsh winds and the temp dropped again. Time to go clean up all the debris from the wind…..
