  1. This week I brought home a fearless ten-week-old kitten, a black/near-black tabby with white bits, with a loud and frequent purr. He has my heart.
  2. 1/1/13 Pomelo 1/2/13 Random kind of citrus, probably a satsuma or a satsuma's daughter. 1/3/13 Random kind of citrus, same as yesterday. 1/4/13 A measly little excuse for a sweet potato.
  3. I have plenty of citrus ripe at the moment, but to get through February I'd have to include sprouts from the kitchen counter.
  4. http://www.emergencyhomesteader.com/a-complete-list-of-seed-companies-owned-by-monsanto-and-a-complete-list-of-seed-companies-not-owned-by-monsanto/ Emergency Homesteader has put together some lists.
  5. This is not normal. Have they seen another doctor? The pediatrician had my older son on antibiotics over and over and over for a full year, so I took the kid to my general practitioner, who said his little system was off balance in part from all that pink stuff. We took him off it, gave him baby Tylenol instead, and the doctor made arrangements for me to be able to bring him in any morning or afternoon without an appointment if needed. He got better and didn't get another ear or throat infection for a long, long time.
  6. In retrospect, amputation would have been much better than the series of major surgeries to which we subjected our poor kitten. He had to spend months confined, which wouldn't have happened with the amputation. As it turned out, those months were the majority of his short life.
  7. I'm getting a sound/feeling like three or four little bubbles popping as I exhale. To me, this is the time to double my water intake and start the daily multivitamin (as opposed to a couple or three a week) plus a daily side dose of Vitamin C tablets. Usually, this just goes away. When it doesn't, Katie bar the door!
  8. Check the front of the receipt too. I was at Winn Dixie today for toilet paper, and the receipt price was $4 more than the shelf price. They checked the shelf and gave me a refund for the $4 because someone had forgotten to take down a sale tag from last week.
  9. Reminds me of the miniposter I saw somewhere: If I don't find SOMETHING to wear to the ball, it's curtains!
  10. The 8-10 cents per serving is not what I get, given current bean prices.
  11. What Andrea said. I have ground beans to make refried beans.
  12. Pick up some key limes, limes, or lemons (preferably the smaller, paler type with the fruitier scent), and make him mugs of hot lemonade with honey and a pinch of ginger. This stuff is good.
  13. Remember you can still grind the rocklike beans.
  14. So you're saying better you fell after the surgery than before? Wow. I'm playing with recipes today. Also have red beans soaking for tomorrow's dinner and a loaf of bread baking right now.
  15. Turmeric adds a boost to the perceived cheesiness of casseroles and all. Plus, it's good for you.
  16. Glad to hear from you, and gladder to hear the news.
  17. The traditional treatment was cherries, cherry juice, or even tea made from cherry stems.
