  1. I freeze american all the time. You should expect it to stick to the plastic wrapper and become brittle in the freezer similar to other cheeses. I almost only use it for grilled cheese which melts so I do not care that it does this. It doesn't crumble as bad as cheddar or such, but it absolutely does stick to the wrapper. You can freeze any cheese that you plan on melting or crumbling up. Shred it first to make life easier. I may or may not have over 50lb of cheese in the freezer.
  2. Annarchy, I'm so sorry about your DH. I'm going through something similar with the wrist. I want to do things and some days it just says 'nope.' Everyone keeps trying to help me but I'm more irritated that I can't do it myself than getting it done. Finding workarounds for me to be moderately productive seems to help my mood. Sometimes even switching to a task I can do that is unrelated helps. I just don't want to feel old and useless. Maybe your DH has similar thoughts?
  3. Change it up Leftovers Day 1 Country chicken Soup 1 can chicken every leftover veggie in fridge which included bits and bobs of: field peas i forget what seasoning lima beans seasoned with bacon, salt & pepper carrots in a lemon pepper sauce 1 can mushrooms 6 c water 2 T chicken bullion Italian seasoning half a pack of smoked sausage cut up Heat all through and serve with homemade bread. Day 2 Dirty Rice Half a pack smoked sausage 1/2 pack breakfast sausage garlic Onion 2 bell peppers 1 can mushrooms 1 can rotel tomatoes 3c leftover rice Cajun seasoning to taste Cook sausage, veggies in sausage grease. Add remainder and heat through. Serve with a vegetable. Day 3 Cajun chicken Soup Dump remainder of soup from day into colander and strain. Rince and Dump in Pot. Dump Leftover dirty rice in colander and strain out all rice and rinse clean. Add meat and veg to pot. This is about 4c solids. Add in 8c water, 2T tomato bullion, 3 cubes beef bullion, garlic herb seasoning, and cajun seasoning. Heat through. Serve with small sandwiches made on leftover Panera side baguette chunks. (we had panera delivered on garage sale day because we were all overheated. Meals all came with a side baguette piece which was the perfect size to make a sandwich on.) My Sandwich (baguette slices were about 3x5" cut at an angle) Layer: Panera baguette bottom cream cheese oil packed sundried tomatoes to finish off jar 3 thin circles turkey lunchmeat 3 slices salami 1 slice provolone 3 slices heirloom tomato salt & pepper Mixed lettuce Balsamic glaze Top of baguette DH and kid made their own sandwich, but everyone agreed that mine was the best.
  4. Lemonade 1c sugar 1c bottled lemon juice 6c water. Mix well and chill. Serve over ice. I like mine with a splash of lime juice in the cup. If you do it in the blender with ice like a margarita it tastes like the frozen sonic slush. You can add in a piece or six of frozen fruit to change up the flavor.
  5. My broken wrist is mending but still giving me enough problems that gardening is right out at the moment. DH put in some tomatoes, basil, and thyme this year. He will probably work on some peppers too. The peach and pear trees are doing well and the blackberries and raspberries are blooming. I have a ton of rosemary that thrives on neglect and green onions coming up in several planters. There will probably be very little canning or dehydrating this year due to the wrist. Instead, I'm working on using my current preps instead of eating out when my pain level is high. Simple pantry & freezer meals. Not always the healthiest, but filling and easy.
  6. That usually happens to me when I try a low sugar recipe. It is thinner than regular sugar and the solids float towards whichever end is up.
  7. I love those planters! such a creative use of space.
  8. For the next week, write down every item you use to make a meal. At the end of the week compile that list. If your weeks vary a lot, keep it up for a month. That will tell you what you eat. Dont forget to include condiments like mayo, steak sauce, garlic, curry powder, etc.
  9. Hamburger and hotdog buns have the same basic recipe as sandwich bread--they are just shaped differently with different bake times. The French rule about bread says a lot more about the elitism of bread in France than it does about ingredients in the US. French markets are not allowed to sell frozen bread, must make homemade bread on the premises they are sold, and cannot use the word bread except for very narrow items. That is why you will see them selling 'rosemary loaves' etc instead of bread there. French bread may not contain liquids other than water and may not contain spices. It is an extremely rigid law about what bread is allowed to be called in France. This page will need to be translated, but it outlines all the major points and is basically the French version of USA.gov Decree No. 93-1074 of 13 September 1993 adopted for the application of the Law of 1 August 1905 with regard to certain categories of bread - LĂ©gifrance (legifrance.gouv.fr)
  10. Neighborhood garage sale today. Didn't do great on the small things, but I did sell my old van. yea! DD18 graduated yesterday and DD14 has her first dance tonight. I'm tired to the point of non-function. We are planning on a whole bunch of nothing tomorrow.
  11. DD 18months is on solids and whole fat powdered milk now. She still likes to take 1 bottle (powdered milk room temp freshly made up) a day in the evening after dinner. I'm so thankful. We tried every version of similac and enfamil when it became apparent my milk was not going to fully come in. Baby did NOT like any of it. We finally found peace on the off brand that is Kroger/BJs. Its the same package even just with a different print. Orange top 'sensitive stomach.'
  12. The more I hear people the happier I am that I rarely leave my house. So many women are just sticking up their nose and saying ....join a local for profit breastmilk selling group and get some for your child.... Hospital milk banks are inaccessible for most infants except for those who are very high risk. I have to say that I would probably give cow, goat, powdered or whatever before I gave e-bay-esque breast milk to my kid. I am so glad we are on solids for the youngest. I am all about a wet nurse who is someone you know and have interviewed. I am sincerely against random food in this day and age of medical issues and better living through chemistry. People are seriously losing their minds over this. I am so glad that being prepared means learning alternative methods in addition to stocking.
  13. The tidy stack of packages gave my OCD a moment of bliss. Very nice.
  14. Have you considered taking the noodles out of the original packaging and breaking them in half or such to make them fit into the food saver bags? I learned my lesson back in Y2K. We do not stock anything we do not eat regularly. Either we eat it once a week/month or we do not stock it. ATM beans are my downfall. I have so many BEANS. We need to work them in more. Especially chickpeas.
  15. I have not gone to windows 11 yet because my processor will not support it. I'm putting it off till 2025 because I prefer to see my options at that time. If you miss freecell, the phone app Family Pack is amazing. It has so many card games and is really fun. My kids got it also. It is free. I like Russian Bank and Forty Theives. It has freecell, spider, and about 50 others. Family's Game Pack - Apps on Google Play
  16. Wrist is sore, but I have more movement than I did. The occupational therapist is impressed with my progress and says I'm ahead of the curve. We went to Food Lion last Friday and saw lots of holes. The neighborhood garage sale got rained out. Rain date is next Saturday. We have SO MUCH junk in our garage. I'm praying for good weather next Saturday so we can have it and clear out some things we no longer need. One kid graduating on Friday, another has her first semi formal dance Saturday night. This week will be busy. This morning I cleaned up the bomb zone that is my living room. The baby helped by recreating the chaos while I cleaned. I think we are going to rest for the remainder of the day.
  17. Eh....I have made a LOT of bread. It only gets hard like that if you leave it out. If you cover it or put it in a ziplock bag, it will stay soft for several days. My brown bread never gets hard...just molds after about 5 days. Also bread made with water will be a lot harder than bread made with milk. That is why crusty & hard vs soft. The ingredient and science spiel seems spot on though. Very interesting.
  18. Biscuit bowl method is my favorite way. Brenda Gantt nails it. I highly recommend her cookbook 'It's going to be good ya'll' Watch | Facebook
  19. Making a lemongrass Basil curry for dinner tonight so I made onion cheese rolls to go with it. Half batch of Amish rolls with yogurt instead of sour cream. Divide into 12. Roll out. Spread chive onion cream cheese. Fold over, seal center, pinch edges. Put in greased pie dish, sprinkle tomato Basil feta over. Rise an hour bake 30m 350f.
  20. They are currently measuring the angle of my wrist and elbow at occupational therapy. My kids found this fascinating.
  21. Happy mother's day to everyone who has ever loved a child enough to help it in the world. I've had 9 pregnancies, 6 miscarriages, 3 live births and 4 daughters...one from another mother. All children are amazing and both mothers and step mothers are wonderful. Support each other. I am proud of my step daughter's mother and proud of my daughter's step mother. It takes a village to raise children and my girls are amazing.
  22. Occupational Therapy on the hand is going well. I can do some things with it and I can type again. We went to BJs and they had no cashiers, only self check out. I bought a TON of stuff and had to do it all myself with a broken arm. It was terrible. I approve of the mustard stockpiles. We have a quart of powdered mustard, a gallon of mustard seeds, 8 bottles of plain mustard, 3 dijon, 5 spicy mustard, and 3 fancy german types. We are serious about our mustard. I have a magic broom. It looks ordinary, but when I lean it against the baby fence, she will not move the baby fence and stays out of the kitchen. Magic. Neighborhood garage sale is next weekend and we are getting ready for it. My garage is overflowing and we are hoping to empty up some space.

I saw this tutorial and found it useful. How To Make DIY Candle Wicks With Cotton String - 3 Ways - Sew Historically Basically it is #10 cotton thread like you crochet with.

  25. I use a jigsaw app on my phone. Most of them are terrible, but Just Jigsaws has a more natural interface and is lots of fun. Its free, but it is one of the very few apps that I paid for extra features and that is rare for me. Just Jigsaws - Apps on Google Play
