  1. I just don't see many coupons for food anymore. Plenty for bath, beauty, cleaning items, vitamins, paper products, glade smelling stuff. I use all I can get a good deal on, and would have loved to have even 1 $20 ham coupon. Good for you!
  2. DH went and bought one for his truck yesterday. It was a 2006 battery, and the mechanic said this thing could had gone anytime especially in really hot weather this summer. Ouch, to the pocketbook.
  3. What about the shipping cost of .com? They are very heavy.
  4. Came out from Church yesterday to a dead battery in the car. It was cold and damp after some wonderful spring-like weather. No warning, just dead. Got a jump start and DH went to buy a new battery at Autozone. It was $124. We were expecting maybe $80. Batteries have really gone up, like everything else. Thankfully, he got a discount for being old, 10% off. Check your batteries, and prepare to get one while you can check prices and not be caught out somewhere with no help.
  5. Your name tells us a lot about you. May God bless and keep you, and He will.
  6. Old, hard pinto beans. Need to accomplish something today, so decided to do these.
  7. These pineapple slices were bought already dehydrated, in bulk-a gift to me. There were so many I did put some in the freezer, and some in glass gallon jar without oxy absorbers. Had been in the freezer 3 or so years when I finally decided it was time to try some. DH likes to eat them just as they are, but I like them best in the cake.
  8. I recently made one with OLD, DRIED pineapple slices. Soaked them for a while, and then used as normal. They had been in the freezer for a couple of years, and looked just like they had when they were bought. Cake was just as good as with canned pineapple.
  9. Have a dear friend from my working days. They struggle all the time. I often share with her, stuff nearly out of date, etc., and she will share things given to her they don't eat. Yesterday she called from a local church that has free supper for anyone. Some food distributor was to bring them close dated stuff, fruit and lots of bread and cakes, lots of yogurt. It was delivered late and they had no storage room for all of it. Started calling folks to come get it. My friend went gladly and saw the huge amount of food. She called me. I turned off the stove, told DH supper was ready and jumped in the car. Told me take enough for us and for daughter's family. DD and I both were delighted and will gladly use the food. Much of it was expensive stuff we won't buy. Little grandson gave me and the box of croissants a big hug. His favorite thing-I never knew. We are thankful and will gladly use. It looked like "manna" from heaven. Soon gifts of food may be even more precious than we know.
  10. Canning dry pinto beans today, quite old. DH helps and the canner is now going. Good to have at least some of the dry storage more easily used in an emergency.
  11. Baby carrots. Can't grow carrots here (rocks everywhere). Did a price match with Aldi and got them for 69 cents a pound. Got 12 quarts, and grandchildren are so happy.
  12. Thanks for the info, Dee. Miss you!
  13. We may get a little, but is warming up so fast, close to 90 for 3 days. We did put shade over them, but not sure if they will make it. Might try again this fall, but I doubt it.
  14. Good news for me. First time we have had any success with broccoli , and ours is now making little heads. Since it is still sorta cool, hopefully it will make it. Cooler, wetter spring here in North Arkansas. Better news for you since you are actually eating yours!
  15. Yes, I would. My sis says freezer burn is really just freeze drying. We cut that off and still use it.
  16. I enjoyed One Second After, and don't remember the sex scenes either, but like MT R, I would have skipped through that. Think I'll dig it out and skim through it again.
  17. Thank you, I've made it to 3 score and 10.
  18. Forgot to mention, the pump n seal I have has to be pumped by hand and takes a lot pumping.
  19. I have one of these, bought second hand. It works most of the time. I mostly put rice in quart jars, did not believe it was sealing, and checked sometime later. All I have checked, 3 or 4, have been sealed.
  20. No sugar in cornbread down here, at least not for me.
  21. Did you have beans in the chili. Over the years, I have lost more jars of beans than anything else. Don't know if it is the gases or swelling or what. Many years ago, I had lots of seal loss from the Kerr brand only-not Ball not Golden Harvest. Wrote to Kerr and they wanted to give me a lesson in canning. Didn't buy Kerr for a while, even though I knew they and Ball were made by the same company. Seems like sometimes there is no explaining it. I do agree that if a jar is sealed enough that I cannot pop it off with hand, it should be fine.
  22. Butter on sale here, too. As little as $2.50 a pound for store brand. Guess I jumped on the Land O Lakes too quickly.
  23. Walmart has a 2 pound pack of Land O Lakes butter for $6.48 here, about the best deal I have found lately.
