  1. I sympathize..we have had more bad gardens than good. For some reason this year has been wonderful though. Hang in there..the next crop will be better.
  2. Not to mention the price increases to chicken feed (corn) from the drought here in the U.S. Maybe I need to get another flock of "girls" to be self sufficient.
  3. I hope your pacemaker check up came out well! 18 miles is great.
  4. I hesitate to print online coupons too. I wonder about what info they are storing, especially the ones that make you download their software. I have noticed that some of the clerks pay a little attention to make sure you are buying the correct products now too.
  5. Since funds are so tight and cash is extra short lately I cashed in my credit card points. I try to forget I have them so they add up. The last quarter they gave 5% rebates on gas and groceries so I charged my groceries to earn extra points. I got a check instead of a credit and it helped pay my unexpectedly(and not budgeted) high electric bill.
  6. J C Penney stores with salons in them are offering free kids haircuts through the end of the month.
  7. Yes..I found alot of good info. The last time I did the free trial was a few years back and I know they have added alot more since then. Happy hunting!
  8. In celebration of National Coffee Day on Septemebr 28th...7-11 stores will give you a free large coffee between 6-10 am.
  9. I have done it. Just be sure to call in time so your card doesn't get charged. I wish they would just give the trial without having a credit card number. It would make it easier for us, but I guess they make money from people who don't cancel the trial in time.
  10. Wait till you have very ethnic last names with ancestors who didn't speak English. My husbands family has at least 10 different spellings for his last name.
  11. That's what my MIL did with her checking account. That way we could get access to her account easily to pay for her final expenses after she died.
  12. It is so easy to get off track isn't it? I have been having alot of pain lately so exercise is difficult. Moving has been pretty tough. I actually broke down a few days and took some of DH's pain pills. Maybe I can do more now that I am feeling better.
  13. I wonder too. Also some people don't follow the rules. Most coupons say they can't be sold or copied and alot of other rules.
  14. You bring up a good point Cat. We have a store around here that I won't buy anything edible from. They have so much out of date stuff. Sometimes it doesn't matter so much, but if it is improperly stored or damaged that is another story. I don't trust anything they sell because of what I have seen there. As much as I like to save, our health is more important. Some of the gas stations around here store large display cases of bottled water and soft drinks out in the sun. Yuck! Also, for those of us who drink diet sodas..be sure to check the expiration date on the bottle or can. Some of the artificial sweeteners are only safe for 90 days and should not be stored in hot places.
  15. We generally don't eat hot dogs but I can't resist a good deal. Sav-A-Lot has Eckrich hot dogs for 50 cents a pack of 10. I stocked up and put alot of them in the freezer. At that price it even makes a good treat for the dogs!
  16. I got a free little table leftover from a garage sale. It is cute from the 1930's with an enamel top.
  17. DIL wanted to know how I made my slaw. I gave her the recipe and she had never grated cabbage. I couldn't believe she had never seen cabbage shredded at home. She thought you had to buy it in a bag. She had never noticed the whole heads before. Momo had to bite her tongue.
  18. A word of warning..alot of outboard boat motors and other small engines(weed eaters, lawn mowers) can be damaged by gas with ethanol in it. To prevent damage buy ethanol free gas which is a little bit more expensive but won't cause problems. We live in a big boating area and I know from personal experience, several folks who have had expensive repairs on their boats after using ethanol.
  19. Congratulations. I wish I could sample the food.
  20. Our neighbors blueberries are usually ready around the 4th of July. Due to the dry weather they didn't have any at that time. After our recent heavy rain we FINALLY got a bunch on Saturday. I made DH blueberry pancakes for breakfast today and it was sooo good!
  21. DH is now out collecting cans on the side of the road to get up some gas money! Hopefully we'll make it this year.
  22. I have noticed that coupons have expiration dates that are getting shorter and shorter. I remember when most weren't even dated. Now it seems like most are only good for about a month. I wish they didn't expire so soon.
  23. You did good Snowy. I got weighed and I picked up a few pounds. I'm pretty sure it's from the Dr. changing my meds cuz that's the only thing that's changed. I am so frustrated but I need to take the meds.
  24. Our local 7-11 type store gives away outdated cakes/sweets for free. If the product is dated to expire today or tomorrow they save them in a special spot for their regular customers to have for free. Apparently the vendor doesn't want old product back. See if your store has such a policy. It keeps DH in goodie heaven for free.
  25. I live in North Alabama at Lake Guntersville. I go to Cullman occasionally. It is a small scenic town founded by Germans a little over 100 years ago. Glencoe is just a few miles away from Cullman.
