  1. Batteries have corroded in the unopened package here. And I've always bought Duracell, thinking that was supposed to be the better brand.
  2. A Proverb A Day Handwriting Practice https://www.icanteachmychild.com/a-proverb-a-day-handwriting-practice/
  3. I thought I'd start a thread on free downloads/materials for homeschooling. The Good and the Beautiful has a free download of Nature Poetry for Kids, 10 pages: https://www.goodandbeautiful.com/nature-poetry-for-kids/ Nature Poetry for Kids is just part of the poetry in I Sat By the Sea, which is also available as a free download through The Good and the Beautiful's Free Language Arts Curriculum for Level 3: https://www.goodandbeautiful.com/free-downloads/free-language-arts-level-3/ Their Levels 1-5 Language Arts are available as free downloads. https://www.goodandbeautiful.com/free-homeschool-language-arts/ It is available for purchase in the print version. I'm satisfied with what I'm using currently and will not be switching at this point, but thought it might be helpful for someone else. I don't do ebooks and I don't typically print much out, but I did print our these poetry resources. Poetry is so easy to integrate into homeschooling. We get a lot of use out of the book Favorite Poems Old and New, but it was nice to get these collections as well. DD likes the illustrations, too.
  4. Adding that one to my " eventually get" list. Thanks, TheCG! We're reading The Burgess Bird Book for Children by Thornton Burgess right now. It is a very pleasant read. We are learning (and remembering!) with this one. Excellent "living book" for homeschooling.
  5. I read it this year and it was excellent! I have the print version. I don't do ebooks. No minimalist book shelves here! DD and I were to see it is a trendy-minimalist-decorating-thing to have bookcases without books on them! It was up there with the article we read on buying books by the foot in certain colors or styles to have on shelves behind you to look good for the computer-camera-zoomy thing.
  6. Jeepers, how did Lehmans look inventory-wise? Seems like everytime I'm on their website there are less and less items.
  7. Happy Birthday, Amber! I hope you are feeling better soon. Happy Birthday, Skagitgirl!
  8. MtRider, I hope you are feeling better soon! I keep making steps forwards and back again. I know it is frustrating.
  9. Congratulations! I very much want a cookstove. There's just not any room for one in our current (small) house. I've had my eye on those Pioneer Princess cookstoves. That's why I can't go to Lehmans. Regardless of not having space (at all), I would want to bring one home with me.
  10. I didn't think of that. I've noticed that as the stamps go up in cost, less people are mailing out Christmas cards.
  11. The cost of postage stamps are going from 55 cents to 58 cents on Aug. 29. One more thing I need to buy ahead on to try to save a little.
  12. saw this on HighMowing's site: Best Practices for Long Term Seed Storage https://www.highmowingseeds.com/blog/best-practices-for-long-term-seed-storage/
  13. Welcome back!! Have you read Karen Andreola's purple book on Charlotte Mason? (It's actually called A Charlotte Mason Companion. Had to look it up.) It's good!! Reading that book and a few of Ruth Beechick's books helped me to see homeschooling wouldn't be overwhelming. We're not CM on everything, but on some things. Haven't done tea time, but we always have a family read aloud going, read good "real books" (not twaddle!) and nature study.
  14. Little Sister, can you temporarily put it in boxes and label them with things like "Christmas decorations", "crafts", "baby stuff", ect.? Then tell her you've just been using that room for storage lately?
  15. I hadn't heard of that before. I used to freeze water in empty Cool Whip and chip dip containers for my dog. He was a strong chewer and loved gnawing on (and pretending to guard) his ice on hot summer days.
  16. I like seeing what everyone is reading! Just finished a biography, Bess Streeter Aldrich: The Dreams are All Real. I really enjoyed it. I have some of Bess Streeter Aldrich's books and like them very much; reading her biography makes me wish more of her books were still in print. I like reading biographies, but I just couldn't get into the last one I read, which was Elizabeth Prentiss: More Love to Thee. (Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss is wonderful! One of those that I will want DD to read when she's older.) I have a stack or 2 sitting around, but I've been leaning towards the lighter reads lately. During our homeschool summer break, DD has been going through a new (to her) book every few days so I'm thankful I had a stack pre-read and put back for her. I need to catch up for later, though. I read through the 10 book set of Adventures of the Northwoods by Lois Walfrid Johnson. DD's reading level is high, but I'm going to hold off giving those to her for another year or so. They are good, clean, adventure/mystery books set in 1906 Minnesota.
  17. I'll be back later. What have you been reading?
  18. Wanted to see if anyone here has read books by Ellen Cutler or Sherry Rogers? Both are about health.
  19. They are planning to go door-to-door to push this. https://redstate.com/nick-arama/2021/07/06/jen-psaki-makes-antennas-go-up-with-what-theyre-doing-next-to-get-more-vaccinated-n407250
