MtRider, I hope you are feeling better soon! I keep making steps forwards and back again. I know it is frustrating.

Congratulations! I very much want a cookstove. There's just not any room for one in our current (small) house. I've had my eye on those Pioneer Princess cookstoves. That's why I can't go to Lehmans. Regardless of not having space (at all), I would want to bring one home with me.

I didn't think of that. I've noticed that as the stamps go up in cost, less people are mailing out Christmas cards.

The cost of postage stamps are going from 55 cents to 58 cents on Aug. 29. One more thing I need to buy ahead on to try to save a little.

Welcome back!! Have you read Karen Andreola's purple book on Charlotte Mason? (It's actually called A Charlotte Mason Companion. Had to look it up.) It's good!! Reading that book and a few of Ruth Beechick's books helped me to see homeschooling wouldn't be overwhelming. We're not CM on everything, but on some things. Haven't done tea time, but we always have a family read aloud going, read good "real books" (not twaddle!) and nature study.

Little Sister, can you temporarily put it in boxes and label them with things like "Christmas decorations", "crafts", "baby stuff", ect.? Then tell her you've just been using that room for storage lately?

I hadn't heard of that before. I used to freeze water in empty Cool Whip and chip dip containers for my dog. He was a strong chewer and loved gnawing on (and pretending to guard) his ice on hot summer days.

I like seeing what everyone is reading! Just finished a biography, Bess Streeter Aldrich: The Dreams are All Real. I really enjoyed it. I have some of Bess Streeter Aldrich's books and like them very much; reading her biography makes me wish more of her books were still in print. I like reading biographies, but I just couldn't get into the last one I read, which was Elizabeth Prentiss: More Love to Thee. (Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss is wonderful! One of those that I will want DD to read when she's older.) I have a stack or 2 sitting around, but I've been leaning towards the lighter reads lately. During our homeschool summer break, DD has been going through a new (to her) book every few days so I'm thankful I had a stack pre-read and put back for her. I need to catch up for later, though. I read through the 10 book set of Adventures of the Northwoods by Lois Walfrid Johnson. DD's reading level is high, but I'm going to hold off giving those to her for another year or so. They are good, clean, adventure/mystery books set in 1906 Minnesota.

Another thing to be aware of with kids is to check slides, swings, ect. On a sunny day, if not in a shaded area, those shiny metal slides are too hot for little ones. And car seats and buckles in the car. When we had a vehice without tinted windows, in the summer, I always kept a small baby blanket over the carseat if DD wasn't in it.

Have you considered dehydrating the strawberries? https://nchfp.uga.edu/how/dry.html We did once, many years ago. I said never again, though. The house smelled too sickeningly sweet to me. I think DH just snacked on them.

Happy Anniversary, Miki! We're having a cooler week this week...temps are in the 70s and dipping in the 40s overnight. Nice to give the a/c and electric bill a break. I wouldn't mind the summer staying like this.
