Somewhat similar to Westbrook, but the last time I leaned back in my chair like that it broke and I went flying, so I just relax in it now. smile

No immediate family, parents deceased, and relatives all in other states and have their own families to concentrate on and aren't interested in holiday gatherings like in generations past.

Will probably fix a ham, one of those small ones in a can that will have a few holes punched in the side from a can opener, heated enough to melt the gelatin that is poured out and replaced with a nice holiday BBQ sauce and baked in the can. No pans to clean up.

Cooking cornbread, chopping veggies, and boiling some eggs.

I will ask my sister and brother if they want to come over but they like to eat by noon. I do most of my cooking(and clean-up) the day before and sleep in a little on Thursday. We have a small breakfast and then eat our big meal at about 4-4:30. To me it is less stressful this way.

Wish I could get Westbrooks' hubby to come hang some drywall for me. We rippped a wall out months ago then my hubby got hurt at work and he is still unable to repair it. Local contractor wants $700 for 1 wall...ouch!!!

Blessings,

bb

Been prepping some veg for a couple weeks. Made my pie filling & mashed taters yesterday (pie filling in fridge, taters in freezer, ready to be thawed & baked off). I've been drying bread cubes for a couple weeks now. Turkey is thawing in the fridge in the garage. Debating on making the stuffing & freezing it today, LOL

I like turkey, but not enough to have it for 2 weeks straight.

I feel we are at the age where we should enjoy life, not cook for 3 days to feed a hungry "mob", then wash and dry dishes for 24 hours.

The restaurants at the casinos have a nice spread for about what it would cost to buy the food to cook ourselves.

Since it is just the DW and myself, nope, no cooking. Just relax, be waited on, then come home and watch the game. grin

The "doggy bags" will be in the fridge if we want something later.

Got no extended family either. Parents have died, so it's just me, hubs and the two kids. Some friends invited us over to their house and she's doing the whole big traditional Thanksgiving spread. I'm going to bring a couple easy sides and desert. It'll be nice.

Tomorrow I am cooking a turkey for US here. We never have leftovers when we go to my Mom (or we get a little bit, not enough for a meal for four LOL!) So I am making turkey, stuffing (Just an easy stuffing with celery, onions, poultry seasoning and bread) and I am making my corn pudding, and a green bean casserole. I need to call my mom and ask if she wants me to bring one or the other of those and make one.

We are just the three of us plus my mom who is in the nursing home nearby. We bring mom home for turkey dinner--which is difficult but better now that we installed a sidewalk to the back door. (she's in a wheel chair and without the sidewalk, we sometimes got stuck in wet grass!)

I cook a turkey, stuffing, wheat-free/dairy- free pumpkin pie, butternut squash, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce and home made rolls. That is plenty for the four of us. So it's not a horrific amount to cook. I am cooking a large turkey, though. We will make soup and turkey pie and such with the left overs. Mom loves this kind of meal and enjoys being at our house with all our kitty cats lounging in front of the fire. After lunch, we watch a movie. Then when it's time to take mom back to the nursing home, we come back, watch another movie and have leftovers for dinner. All in all, a nice, low-key day at home.

Sometimes we wish we had family nearby to do it up bigger--but then we recall old times when it took hours to clean up...and we are kind of glad for the quiet!!

We started cooking already, but not for THE dinner yet.

Oldest DS arrived from California last evening. He hasn't been home since his Dad's brain tumor surgery going on three years ago, and we didn't get to "visit" much becasue we were at the hospital. (DH is fully recovered from that, thanks be to God)

So, we have all his favorite meals planned. Last night we had squash stew and polpettes (DH made those) and I made Italian bread to go with it.

Today I need to get cracking on the cornbread (for the dressing) and other preliminary T-day cooking.

I am doing what Judy did last year, and roasting two turkeys so I have plenty to can the next day.

I know, I know...... knockheads

Well I am jealous of some of you that choose not to cook! I wish I could do that some years too, like this one. But we feed quite a few friends every year and they have come to count on being here like a regular family lol. But I have to pace myself or I will be worn out by tomorrow afternoon. oops

Have to bake the pies today (pumpkin, sweet potato pecan, blueberry), mix up all that stuffing and dressing, clean the bird, etc...

I hope yall have a great Thanksgiving!

I baked pies today - from homegrown pumpkin! cheer The rolls are brown-n-serve. Tomorrow I'll stuff and roast the turkey, peel and mash the potatoes, make the gravy, open the can of cranberries adn call it good. We eat around 1-2pm, then around 5pm, I put out crackers, cheese, meat, carrots, celery, olives, etc for a self-serve meal.

In the mean time, we play some board games, watch the Dallas Cowboys and over-feed the cat and the dog. rofl

This is the first time, ever, we haven't celebrated Thanksgiving.

My chicks aren't too happy. We were first supposed to go to friends and they were going to order one of those cooked turkey deals and I was going to bring the rest. Several days went by, with no real plan, so I checked with them and they said they'd rather go out, then got a call that they want us to go out for pizza with them tomorrow.

So...No big turkey (two), no pies, veggies, no everything they want to eat...It was just too late. I would have cooked for days and had it almost all done, and in the freezer.I just couldn't bring myself to go down into that cold kitchen and cook, till I dropped, with my husband home, and walking through, in total silence, glaring at us. I just couldn't make myself move, to do it this year. I took my chicks to McD's for breakfast and since they only had the drive through open, we took the food over to Sonic's picnic tables and sat and ate. They were closed too. My chicks had fun, counting how many people saw our van there and pulled in, thinking they were open....20!

Now we are going to go and hang out in my daughter's apt., while she works. We are gonna trash the place and raid all of her goodies and watch movies on her big screen. My Aaron does not want to be here, while his father is off. We may go to the restaurant she works at and eat half price appetizers. I'm just going to crash and burn, though, if my little Noah, says one more time..."I love Thanksgiving, we get to eat and eat and eat!

Good thing, Christmas is around the corner and I have a chance to redeem myself. I flunked "Mommy 101" today...F+!!!!! Not the first time either!
