  1. Oh I like a book review with my free book. Thank you Jeepers. I need some easy, reading for our vacation.
  2. Dang, I lost my post because I hadn't logged in on this computer. Amber, I did corn cob jelly one year but found it to be a rather messy job, and we weren't all that pleased with the result. Maybe the corn wasn't the right type, and I also don't think I strained it out enough. The jelly was milky looking. I didn't bother to try again, but do have the method in a binder somewhere. We're more likely to have corn than fruit in hard times. If you make the jelly please be sure to let us all know what you feel about the process and product. My rhubarb will keep me happy, and we have some strawberries, (hoping to get some raspberries) blueberries, crab apple, cherrie, plum, apple, and a pear tree. Birds have already eaten the six tiny red cherries on the tree we just planted, but a least I know it will bear fruit if we can keep it over the winters.
  3. We're looking for a new grill too. For just the two of us, I think a table top model will work fine. It will be easier to take along while traveling to visit kids. Enjoy your lovely win Cat!
  4. That Attitude of Gratitude will carry you a long way. Prayers for your journey along this road.
  5. Carie, I peeked at your blog. Pinterest will give you everything you need for mixes, freezer fare, and slow cooker ideas if you can get off of the computer to get any of it done! Pure bliss on the front porch happens often here too. Right now I have a new "white" rose blooming that is so very fragrant. I'm hoping our nasty wind will not be too hard on it. The yard smelled so lovely this morning.
  6. It was a lazy day for me. I fell off of our deck the day before yesterday so I have been a little sore. We were taking out an old toilet, set it down and I stepped too far back. I thought I was going to eat the bumper on the truck but managed to twist away from it. I think it is the twist that hurts across the right side of my back and round to the front. I had a full day with driving bus and an eye appointment in the city yesterday. over the prices for new glasses. I had lenses put in an old frame; the price more than doubled since the last time I asked for a quote. Still cheaper than new frames though. I'm fussy about my glasses because I wear them almost as much as I wear my skin! I had bought two new frames in 2011 but I surely can not do that any longer. Dh hauled grain today, and discovered what I have been warning him to be careful of, he has a small hernia at his navel, it gave him trouble with him having to shovel so much and haul the grain vac around. He also said he stumbled and fell a few times too. If we keep this up we will need that scooter (I bought one from an auction on the weekend) Coffee row people have been giving me a hard time over that. I should have kept quiet about it.............Big joke. You should have heard them hoot when I told them we put in a higher toilet too!!!!!!! We're getting older folks, why don't people understand? I had a neighbour girl come over after school to vacume floors, thinking I would plant the 3 (more) blueberrie bushes and another rose. It didn't happen, as there is a severe thunderstorm watch out for our area, and it is really windy. I probably would have had a difficult time digging anyway. It is nice though to have this bit of cleaning done for me. Dh is drinking |Gatorade..............too much work and heat for him today.
  7. Ahhh!!!! New Babysteps..................Welcome Back ans yes, Congrats too!
  8. I can taste those berries. Have fun Carie, it sounds exciting to me. Have you had chickens before?
  9. Thank you for your reply CGA. Dh wants to give it a try. I too was happy to read that there isn't an unpleasant taste.
  10. DH asks how long were you taking the borax before you noticed a difference |CCA?
  11. I made it once. My BIL had given us the directions. I don't even "remember" if we thought it worked or not. Maybe it did!!!!!!! In all seriousness, we did try it but didn't continue. I don't suppose it worked well. What does help my hands is a wax pot, where you dip your hands in warm wax and slip on a mitten to hold the heat. It is soothing, and softens your hands too.
  12. Hi! I just now saw the question asked about chicken prices. The prices quoted were from our "Canadian" Costco. I can get the grilled chicken there also but ours is $7.99.each, and small. I was wondering if the canner would fit on the propane burners in our camper trailer, but haven't dragged it out to check yet.
  13. I GET A DO OVER!!!!!!!!! WHOOO HOOO!!!!!!!! Going to clear my stats..............................
  14. I quit after winning by chance in the first few minutes. My score in "spider solitaire" is so low this would be going to the negative side!!!!!
  15. I still waiting to try my new canner too. I have to use it outside on the "camp chef" propane stove, Chicken here is a terrible price. Skinless breasts, $13.99 per kg. Bonless skinless thighs are 11.99 per kg, while bone in w/skin is 5.99 per kg. I need to try the two different pkg. of thighs to see how much I loose with the bone. Surely not SIX dollars worth.
  16. Thank you Lord for saving this family's home. We are so grateful!
  17. For your weekly calculations you will find good information at "Food Storage Made Easy". I also had a copy of the "Supply table" which is a basic list of preparedness items as information for members of the "Later Day Saints" (found on line). This listing shows you the purchase priority for each item listed, and includes everything to have on hand, not just food. I found it to be a great help.
  18. It sounds exciting to be moving form the city to the country. Enjoy, and let us know of your adventures.
  19. God isn't tapping his foot and looking at his watch waiting for us to join in. He is just listening quietly, and I know he has already heard a "rumble" from us.
  20. "OUR" bees have been in the bin wall for a few of years now. The men tried to seal the entrance off and smoke the bees out initially,( I'm allergic to them), but I insisted they be left alone. I don't bother them they don't bother me. Dh did however move the bin out into an open pasture last summer. I don't know what the winter will have done to the bees. Prior to that, the building was on the south side of our barn being somewhat protected from the wind, with snow building up between the two structures, I believe helping to insulate. I have been wanting to take the quad out to see how they managed the cold, as there isn't anything blooming yet for them to come near the house.
  21. I still have some honey stored from a neighbor's bees. He has since sold his hives but one hive had swarmed to an old grain bin in our yard.. I have been trying to convince dh that we need to get them moved into a proper hive.
  22. Thank you. Now that I think about it, we don't have freezer items in any of our $stores. I'll make note of it for when we travel across the border on vacation this summer.
  23. What are the pepper/onion bags? Brand name? We don't have a $Tree but may look at some other $Stores. Thank you to BTW.
  24. Oh Jeepers, thank you! I had only a minute to google the name this evening before we went out to a bithday party. I just can't figure out why I had such an instant connection or feeling of "needng to know more" about this name/woman today. It was a rather unnerving experience for me.
  25. I'm not sure this is the place to ask about a name just because I think it is a beautiful one. Can anyone tell me the origin/meaning of the given name "Bereth" ? It is the name of our friend's grandmother, born in 1872. I think it would have been a Norwigen name, but D. didn't know his grandmother's maiden name. I have no idea why, but this lovely name has been on my mind all day.
