  1. I would love to come but I'm having family in from out of state that week. Two weeks actually. Maybe they will cancel. (evil grin)
  2. Here is a free Kindle book for vertical gardening. I don't know how good it is but might be a fun read? And it's free. Atleast for right now. http://www.amazon.com/Vertical-Gardening-Bountiful-Results-ebook/dp/B00889OIM6%3FSubscriptionId%3D1GVBN9WWNVXC5DBPE502%26tag%3Dkiq-free-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3DB00889OIM6#_
  3. We used to say, "Knee high by the 4th. of July" Others said, "High as an elephants eye by the 4th. of July" That first group must have had some tall knees.
  4. Redneck computer tech...
  5. I had a quiet weekend. Son came over today (Sunday) to mow the grass and move the wood pile the landscrapers left in the side yard over to the back yard. He got the wood moved and luckily the whole process was in the shade. And not a lot of wood too. When it came time to mow I told him to skip it until next week. I think he was glad I suggested it. I looked at the temp on my computer and at 11:30pm it is 80 deg. outside. Hope it isn't an indication of how July and Aug. is going to be.
  6. You know, it might not be such a bad idea to write that cookbook. If (God forbid!) something happens to you first, people would need to know how you dealt with her dietary needs. And it might also help someone else in the process; such as, I never knew a person could have a reaction to eating an animal who didn't have a 'glutin free' diet. God sure knew who her mommy should be!
  7. Good question Mt. Rider. I've seen that too.
  8. Hope Cat (and everyone else) is having a nice weekend. Glad it's raining on TMC so she can write.
  9. That empty cabinet gave me shivers. Not only were his filled from back to front but he had the cans stacked up to the top of the cabinet. He said he liked the looks of it and was going to keep it that way. It was a proud day for me.
  10. BOLDING MINE Thanks for the info! I keep waiting for my old washer to die and then I'll be on the hunt too. Mine will go in the basement so this clinches the debate for me on top/front loader.
  11. I found it. For pie fillings best fruit is: For apples: Firm crisp apples like Stayman, Golden Delicious, Rome etc. For Cherries: Use sour cherries not sweet For Peaches: Firm ripe peaches like Red Haven, Red Skin, Sun High etc.
  12. I have a couple of questions. Under the list of ingredients at the 6 cups of sugar it says (see tip below). What is the tip? Also, can bottled lemon juice be used or do I need to buy some fresh lemons?
  13. When mine was at that age he about ate me out of house and home. He was in sports too. Start labeling things in the freezer like "liver" or "dog food" or what ever else he may not eat. If memory serves me right...that won't deter them for very long though.
  14. I want to can some fruit this summer. I want to can some apple pie filling in ½ pint jars. Or maybe just chunky applesauce. I haven’t decided yet. Since I live alone, ½ pint jars will be a good dessert or snack size portion of fruit for one. I saw a picture of a ½ pint jar of warmed apple pie filling with some crumb topping added and it looked really good. Cherry and peach would be good with a crumb topping too. Or a scoop of ice cream or granola. Since I’m going to have to buy the fruit anyway, which kinds of apple make the best canned pie filling? There are so many different varieties that I don’t have a clue. Maybe a mixture of two or three? Also, for cherry pie filling, should I buy the sweet cherries or the sour ones? These will probably be eaten right out of the jar too as a snack and not in a pie. Cherry pie filling in a single serve jar. Peaches are peaches…right?
  15. My son got a new kitten this last weekend. It is such a cute tiny fuzz ball. It will be nice company for him too. Anyway, he had me come over yesterday to see her. When I was getting ready to leave he was in the kitchen and asked me to come in there for a minute. I went in and he opened 2 of the cabinet doors. I need a minute to compose myself here before I continue....... Okay, inside the two cabinets was FULL of canned food. From back to front. So, even if they never say anything, some things we preach to them may eventially seep in. He knows I'm prepping for both of us during the long haul but just knowing he is prepared for the short term, until he gets here...was worth more than gold. I'm going to get him a case of water to store under his bed too. Actually, I'm giving myself more credit than I deserve. His job has cut back to 4 days a week for 2 months and that is really what put the bee in his bonnet ball cap.
  16. Sorry that happened! Someone needs their fuzzy little butt blasted! Woodchuck...not you.
  17. Sue said that very well. IMHO
  18. I don know how you have managed this long. I was stunned when you said they were in their mid 60's. That is not old by todays standards. Heck, I'm getting close to my mid 60's. I know everyone is different but all this time I was assuming they were closer to their mid 80's.
  19. We finally got some much needed rain too. One of the Eagle nests I was watching had a tragedy disappointment this morning. One of the eaglets died. It is so sad. I guess the mom and dad are going to just leave it there. Not sure yet. It's not the Decorah one but the one in Canada. It's sort of hard to watch but interesting to see a side of nature, via camera, that we usually aren't able to see. Edited to change a word. Probably should have used the word 'disappointment' instead of tragedy. There are a lot of things worse than a bird dying in this world today. I was emotional.
  20. Things were quiet here today. The tree guys came and finished up the tree removal this morning. It looks good back there and I MIGHT get a couple of more down this fall. They stacked the wood right on the property though and I have cranky nasty neighbors. Hope a piece of bark isn't touching a blade of their grass. They are that way... I had some errands to do today but I have a headache and big lump on my head from falling off the bed yesterday. It's no big deal really unless it turns into a migraine. I have too much to do this week for that nonsense. Lump only hurts when I forget about it and touch it. The weather has cooled down but we could use some rain. Supposed to Friday.
  21. My day started with a BANG. I can't believe it but I fell out of bed. I was asleep and the phone rang. I reached over to the bedside table to pick it up and went right over. I landed on my wrist but fortunately the side of my face hitting the bedside table broke my fall. I'm fine really. A little bit sore though and I feel a headache coming on. More mad than anything. I missed the call which was probably another political call or 'Jennifer' calling yet again to tell me this is my final call (again) to lower my credit card rate. The lamp shade got destroyed so looks like Target is on my list of errands. On a happier note, yesterday my son was here doing yard work and noticed a clump of dried grass with fuzzy stuff in it. He kicked it to even it out and found a surprise. There was a little hole in the ground with 6 little bunnies all crammed inside. It was one of the cutest things I've ever seen. They are so tiny. Their eyes aren't even open yet. We didn't touch and covered them back over. Son put one of those little folding outside tables over them to shade them and to keep us from stepping on them. Momma put them right out in the open in the middle of the front yard. They are so cute now but will probably grow up to eat all of the new shrubs I'll be planting this year.
