  1. Wooo-hooo. I can't have chickens in my backyard but if I ever can, I'm going to be ready.
  2. Thanks Cat! I didn't have either one of those. I did have Arby's though.
  3. Mt. Rider, I usually do the 5x... and then add on from there too. There are some 'times' that are easy for me because they rhyme. 6x6 is 36. 6x8 is 48. 9x9 is 81. Okay, that last one may only work if you have a southern accent. And I used to say I had number dyslexia too.
  4. I have dyscalculia too. I was punished through grade school because I simply could not learn the multiplication tables. I had to study them, secluded in the bathroom, for a half of an hour every day after school. When I learned them, the punishment was over. I never did get past the 6x... Decimals and fractions still elude me. A N M,I feel so bad for your son. I know how it feels to feel dumb. Although I did well in other areas, a sixth grader now probably has better math skills than I do. And studying and determination has little to do with it. I've tried as a child and as an adult to conquer math and it just isn't going to happen for me. I can learn just enough to pass a test and then it magically disappears from my brain. I cannot retain it. I was so glad when I learned there was a valid name for it. As it turned out, some of my cousins have the same thing. We also have a mild form of AADD. I tried meds, both OTC and prescription and nothing helped. Your son is so lucky to have you behind him. He may not realize it now but when he is an adult he will!!! I hope he knows that everyone has some sort of 'learning disorder.' Some are more obvious than others but none of us are perfect no matter how hard we try.
  5. I had a great day today. I had to take the Jeep in for repairs. It was a recall so it was free. My son followed me down to the dealer so he could bring me home. I figured they would keep it a couple of days. Come to find out it was going to take just a couple of hours. I told him to go on home because I had the Kindle plus they had Fox News on the big TV and vending machines so I'd be fine. He ended up staying so we went to Walmart and Best Buy and roamed around for awhile. Then we went and had a leisurely lunch. By the time we were ready to spend some time in the dealers lounge, the car was ready. A day well spent just hanging out with my favorite guy and even got my Jeep fixed free. And a free car wash to boot.
  6. UGH. Wonder if that has anything to do with your itching? It would be nice if that was behind it all. I remember being disgusted when I ran my hand under the rubber flange thing that goes around top of the inside of the washer. Most of it was dried on fabric softener, before I switched to dryer sheets. Makes me wonder if my next washer should be a front loader without an agitator?
  7. I do know what a settee is but I haven't thought about one of those in years. One of my girlfriends mother had one. It was antique and no one was allowed to sit on it. In fact, her whole living room was off limits because of her 'antiques.'
  8. I don't know if it has been posted before or not but I don't remember seeing it. Looks like I have some copy & pasting in my near future. Thanks!
  9. This is the third time I've tried to respond to this. My internet keeps freezing up. Anyway, Arby, I really enjoyed reading your explanation. It was very detailed. Wink, thanks for posting about the book. It sounds like a good read even if it may be a little skewed. I checked it out at Amazon and 686 pages for only 99 cents sounded good to me so bought it. Mother, I can't even imagine what those womwn would think of all of our modern conviences. They would probably think we all lay around on the couch eating bon-bons all day. Assuming they knew what a couch was. Maybe laying around all day on a backless bench eating hardtack?
  10. I've often wondered if those blade sharpeners work. Good to know.
  11. Thanks Violet! I got it bookmarked now. I'll have to measure mine and also make sure the centers match up. I know I use two different sizes.
  12. Mt. Rider, your book list is tied into your Amazon account. Go to Amazon, manage my Kindle account, put in your password and your book list will show up. So, it's tied into your Amazon account via your Amazon password. As long as you have your Amazon account password, you can access them from any computer. I really needed to jump in with that info because I am so tech illiterate it isn't often I have an answer. Hope I get this posted before anyone else hits the 'add reply' button. I'm not even going to proof read this. P.S. Windmorn is a whizz when it comes to this stuff. She also finds the coolest things on line.
  13. Hi Nora and welcome aboard! I'm sure you will learn a lot here but I have a feeling we are going to learn from you too. Glad you joined in.
  14. Thank you very much M2O! And wishing you and all of the other moms here the same.
  15. Thanks CGA. I can always use new rotary blades and they are expensive! I use the old ones to cut paper.
16. Funny we are talking about this and Amazon just updated the Touch. Electronically that is. So now it look just a wee bit different but they added; landscape mode, language support where you can load 6 new foreign language dictionaries, enhanced table of contents, highlighting across the page, Wikipedia look up with just a tap, instant translations, sharing options, onscreen keyboard suggestions and text-to-speech summaries. Whew, all of that while I was asleep! The only thing I wish it did (other than clean my house) is to let you have a folder inside a folder like on the computer. They asked for suggestions and I'm going to email them that. Maybe if enough people do... I go to the Amazon website to delete unwanted books. It took me forever to figure out how to get rid of a book. They stayed in Archives and wouldn't go away. I downloaded a lot of the classics too. Most I haven't read and some I read and forgot about. I got the Willa Cather books and read My Antonia and loved it.
  17. It's sunny but chilly here this morning. I have lots of errands to run today; just waiting for the shower to warm up so I can look/smell decent when I meet the public. That's another thing I don't like about this house. The hot water heater is in the basement and the shower is two floors up. It seems to take forever for the hot water to get up here. Not to mention all the water down the drain while waiting. My Jeep had a recall so tomorrow son is taking me to the shop to drop it off for repair and then bringing me back home. It's about 8-10 miles from here. So...today I want to get it all cleaned up and have the oil etc. changed. I want to have it (lube job) done locally because if the dealer does it it will cost more. I told them while they had it to give it a good check up. Then it's off to the bank, post office, and Lowes again. Then to the grocery store to stock up on fresh items because I'm not sure how long I will be without wheels. Oh, almost forgot I need to go to UPS to mail a box. Better put that on the list right now. Out of sight, out of mind here these days. This afternoon it will be laundry and putting that sun filtering plastic stuff on the diningroom window. I can't think of of what it's called. I can't think of a lot of words so I just talk in details until it comes to me. Static cling window film.
  18. I have a lot stored away to read for when I have more time. Some for next winter or if I get sick and reading will be my only enjoyment. Some of them are prepping and garden related so I'll keep them even after I read them. I have some medical and reference books too. I have quite a few cookbooks that I will go through and copy some recipes and delete the book. Most of the newer books do not stay free for very long so if you see one you think you might be interested in, it's best to download it while you can get it free. If you don't like it you can always delete it anytime. Also, many of the books are very short so are quick reads. I usually read at least an hour before I fall asleep every night. Most nights longer. It doesn't take long to go through the shorter books that way. I've never read so many books in my life! For one most of the ones I have are free and two I'd never have room to store them if they were in paper book form. And I'm saving trees...for firewood. Mine are on the reader so if the computer crashes they are all still safe. Barring an EMP that is. If things get that bad I probably won't have time to do a lot of reading anyway.
  19. All five (I think) hatched this evening. The momma helped them out of the egg. I didn't think they did that. She ate half of one of the shells and then took the other half away somewhere. While she was sitting on the nest, the pappa bought her food. Some of the bugs he gave her, she gave to the babies. Only a few hours old and they had their mouths wide open for some food. They aren't too cute yet but I'm sure they will be when they get some fuzz. The eagles in Decorah are huge now. They should be flying soon I'd think. They flap their wings and hop around. Their balance is getting better too. I'm easily entertained.
  20. Darn, I just found another bird nest online. Okay, I have 6 on 'my favorites' bar now. Sigh. I've never been into watching birds like this before. I have 2 Hawk, 2 Eagle, 1 Great Blue Heron and now a Bluebird nest. I don't know why I can't stop watching them. But the Bluebird just hatched an egg. Looks like there are 3 more in there. On that site you can 'pop out' the video so it's just the video on the screen instead of the entire website. Just when I thought all the birds were getting ready to 'flew the coop' and I could get something else done...I find more eggs. http://www.livestream.com/glenhambluebirds
  21. Good luck on the bid. The house looks like the first one we bought in Indiana! It had 1 acre too. Our neighbors were vertical though.
  22. This email really looked real because on the AOL accounts you can have a logo in the upper left corner. It may be that way with other email accounts, I never noticed. Anyway, her logo has always been a 'red hat' queen crown and it was on the email we all got. When I get email from her, that logo is always there. Everyone in the family has a different logo or I guess it's called an icon or picture. Mine is a pink breast cancer ribbon so they always look for that and know it's from me. That is what was so real looking about it.
