  1. Thank for the report, Jori. I think. Bad news for me because I plan to can quite a bit of fruit this summer.
  2. Thank you Jori! I'll make it easy for you...mine is June 6th. Next Wednesday. Miki. Congrats on your new move. Sorry you won't have internet connection for awhile but you HAVE to check in OFTEN to tell us how you are doing!
  3. Sounds like my washer. Pull the knob out, turn to wash, push the knob in. I didn't want bells and whistles on mine. More things to forget to do and more things to break down. Then again, when I got mine there were no bells and whistles. It's old too. Congrats on getting yours started doing their own laundry. I started mine when I told him to always keep his dirty clothes in the basket and turned the right way and I'd do it. One day I did laundry and his basket was empty but his floor was full. He griped one (1) time about his laundry not being done. After that, he learned real fast.
  4. Beautiful Annarchy. Freedom isn't free...someone paid the price for it.
  5. Hi and welcome back!
  6. I'm reading Cultivating Hope right now. It's pretty good. About prairie life in 1800's Kansas. It's sort of along the line of My Antonia. It is written sort of like a diary. It was a free Kindle download but I see it's up to 3.69 now. If I see it free again I'll post it or if anyone else sees it post away. It's a good read when it's free. http://www.amazon.com/Cultivating-Planting-Dreams-Series-ebook/dp/B003X27UZ0/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1338086029&sr=1-1
  7. 3) Gonna get a new timer from Wally World tomorrow. Cheaper than my BP meds and probably as effective.
  8. I hope not! You had enough of that fear last year.
  9. Hi And WELCOME! I've been here awhile and I'm still not sure where to post some things. No problems though. Someone always sees it or the Mods will move it. Don't be afraid to ask questions. There are no dumb ones. If someone here doesn't know they can at least guide you in the right direction. Sometimes someone will ask what they think is a dumb question and I think, "I never thought of that!" Where I started here was with the lists. It's in the 'Are You Really Ready' forum under the subforum of 'Survival Library.' I'm a list maker though because some days my 'forgetter' is the only thing that works right.
  10. HOOOOOO-RAY for the Gofish family!!!!!!!!! Gofish + DS --------> Gofish + DD1 -------> Gofish + DD2 ------->
  11. Last year we had nothing but rain. It started in the spring and went right up to winter. It was the wettest year on record here. We figured we would have a horrible winter because if all of that rain continued to fall in the form of snow...we'd be in trouble. Come winter the rain stopped. We hardly had any snow at all. It's still too early for us to say if it is dry here yet but we did not have much snow fall or any spring rains to amount to much. Come to think of it, no storms yet either. The few showers we did have were short. So, we could be in for a dry year.
  12. I always had beagles and their floppy ears can be a problem. I would take a damp cottonball and wipe inside her ear about once a week. Alcohol on the ball is suggested but I was always afraid it would sting her. She was used to me messing with her ears though. She was allergic to grass so skin itchies went along with the ears itching. Usually a round of Prednisone in the spring and again in the fall took care of her. Also, it could be mites in the ears. I remember reading if you see black gunk in the ears it could be earmites or their waste.
  13. ((((((((CAT)))))))) ((((((((AMBER)))))))) My day was slow. The landscapers came and went. The guy came out for his pay and I found a few more trees in the back that could come down. I felt a little bad about bargaining him down the last time so I'm paying what the asked this time. Plus I told him I'll give him all of my business...which is really quite a lot over the next couple of years. By landscaping I mean tearing out old old shrubs and cutting down trees. I'll be doing all of the replanting and mulching etc. I do not have a gardener.
  14. You must be on ----------> It is lovely, and huge! Good for you!
  15. OMG! That face is to die for! She is soooo darn stinkin' cute. That's all I have to say.
  16. I sure do. It takes me back to playing on my aunt and uncle's farm in the summer when I was a kid. One week my uncle would have all the boy cousins out to the farm and the next week my aunt would have us girl cousins. The rest of the year she rested up. I JUST NOW figured out why the girls came out after the boys...clean up crew from the boys. We had a lot of cookouts and family reunions there too. I love the smell of new mown (new 'moan' as we used to call it) hay. Then I get weezy and stuffy and sneezy and that's the end of that. Being a Hoosier it also reminds me of a song: There's A Little Red Barn On A Farm Down In Indiana. 1. I was born 'way down in Indiana, Wish that I were there right now. Want to hear my dog bow-wow When I go to milk the cow. Raised on corn 'way down in Indiana, So was ev'ry little hen. I was mighty happy then; Wish that I were back a-gain: CHORUS: In a little red barn on a farm down in Indiana, Let me lay my back on a stack of new mown hay. 'Round the barnyard where the farmyard folks are pally, Let me dilly-dally all the live-long day. I'm a Hoosier who's blue, thru and thru, and my heart is pining For the sycamore trees where the Wabash breezes play. What's more, I'm pining for a yellow moon that's shining On a little red barn on a farm down Indiana way. 2. Work was done 'way down in Indiana, Picked the eggs the chickens lay; Pushed the plow and pitched the hay; Ev'ry day a busy day. Had my fun 'way down in Indiana When the sun would go to rest. Saw it sinkin' in the West; That's the time I liked the best.
  17. Tell TurtlePappa the taters are fine. Mine always do that too. As Violet said, just rinse them off. I figured it was starch. I have not had good luck with canning white beans. Maybe I'll try again this winter when I have more time. All my lids popped. Sigh.
  18. Thanks for sharing your cakes. They look delicious!!! I feel like this is family too and I like to see what other interests we have. And it sounds like making cakes help you to 'survive' in other ways. But now I want a cupcake. Really, really want a cupcake. Chocolate.
  19. It's getting hot here. In the upper 80's but it feels hotter. I needed some landscaping done and called a guy from a sign I saw up the street. I need a tear out of 4 medium trees, 1 very large tree and one huge pine tree taken out. Plus about 20 old shrubs. I called Thursday and he was here Friday to give an estimate. Now, I have to admit I like to bargain. I learned it when we lived over seas. I also know that cash talks. I figured he would say about $3,000.00. Not really out of line around here and for the size job it will be. I thought I could get it down to about $2,500.00 with cash. He quoted me $1,000.00. We bargained around alittle bit and he said he would do it in 2 weeks for $800.00. That was Friday and today I woke up to chain saws. They are almost finished! Yaaaah. I should have done it a long time ago. I won't bargain down quite so much next time though. My D-Ex said I can be a little ruthless. Now I feel kind of bad. My son said they have been in business 24 years so he guessed he knows his business and what things are worth better than I do. But still... I do have a lot more work that needs done in the very back and I will give it all to him.
