Watcha doing today?

Recommended Posts

Jeepers that situation with your insurance is just terrible. I hope the contractor finishes soon so you can get your money to finish, and get out of there and back to a more normal life.

Ambergris so glad you got your glasses back! Amazing puppy didn't crunch them.

Miki usually you can save images from texts to your phone, then select the photo and select share on the photo to email it to yourself.

Littlesister glad your GS is still staying sober from the pot. It sounds like things are going so much better for you both.

Annarchy let us know how the new air fryer works! I have one but haven't tried using it yet.

Today I had a Dermatologist apt, then worked and then cooked up the half cooked meat and was able to package it for the freezer. Got 4 bags of brisket and 4 bags of pork shoulder put away for future meals. That was satisfying to save it. Also swept off the porch. Sometimes you have to take the small wins!

Good grief, Jeepers, that sucks!  In a big way.  Nuf said about how I would have reacted! To say the least!

Time to contact your lawyer.  Even at a percentage of the final payout, you will get your home fixed, right, and recoup, your “pain & suffering” from having to endure the crap you’ve had to deal with in the hotel !  Some lawyers are really good at adapting your circumstances to get everything you need and giving you all the funds you need to finish your job and, get their portion, without cutting into what absolutely needs to be done.

I woke up at 3 and finally got up at 4 am. Already paid bills.
Will walk next and then walk dogs.
Will write a letter to a friend in Military, later.
Give Peanut Butter a bath for haircut tomorrow.
Do some Church computer work, hopefully.
Staying inside most of the day due to heat.

@Becca_Anne, that is what I will have to do.  One at a time.  Then email them one at a time to the fellow requesting them.  Sigh  I will work on it later.

@Annarchy, how is the air fryer working?

Nice job on the air fryer. Would love to know how it turns out. Hopefully a really good one.

Jeepers I see your point. You seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place. A lawyer may very well be in your best interest. But get one that deals with insurance companies and knows how to handle these situations. I know it drove me crazy when the company owner doing my house would call his contractors off my job while they were here to go do someone else's job. because that person was complaining of the same issues.

Cleaned my bedroom and went through the front bedroom to make sure everything is out of the way for GD to get the bedroom suit out. Will need to move the love seat in den across the other side of room out of way for them to get through to the door to take to the truck. Will do that on Friday evening. Still need to take the sweeper and just go over the bedroom floor in my bedroom. Then will have that room done. Kitchen is still clean from last night. Grandson cleaned up behind him after he ate his dinner.  Huge improvement on his part. He is so doing a complete turnaround. Amazing how that pot was making him so awful before. Just praying that after he gets his apartment, he stays off of it. The difference is night and day.

Went outside and worked on garage for a while. Made a small dent but not much. But it will take time to get it all together till grandson's stuff is out of there. Not a lot of room right now to work on it.

My neighbor came over and we talked for a while. I had picked the 2 large squashes as they were so big. I haven't tried mine yet, but she cooked some of Her's on the grill with just salt and pepper and olive oil and said it didn't have any taste. Might be that is not the way to cook it. I'm going to cut some off tomorrow and fry it up with onions and see how it is. Otherwise, we are going to have to find out how they are using it in recipes. Neighbor talked with a guy in the neighborhood next to us and found out he grows it. He said he picks them when they are about 2 ft. long. But never said how they taste or how he cooks them. This is a learning curve on this type of squash so hopefully will get it right. for next years crop.

Stay cool Miki!

Jeepers I agree if they give you any more grief get a lawyer. And if you can go stay in your other house instead of the hotel while they are working that might be good. There is a lot they can show you by video could you get updates from the contractors that way and just come back periodically to see it in person while they are working? I hate to see you end up having to spend any of your own money on hotels.

Littlesister generally if you pick them really big roasting in the oven works best or shredding to make into bread. I've also been learning about dehydrating them and making flour from them! I like to pick squash for eating small and fry with butter and salt and pepper and let some grow really big to shred to put in the freezer for breads. But there are a lot of ways to cook them. I made zucchini and squash boats and stuffed with meat and sauce and they turned out pretty good too.

Today I worked on my newsletter for quilt guild and got those all mailed out, and vacuumed the downstairs. Still need to do the upstairs and also replace all the cat litter. Work went smoothly today and tomorrow is another focus day without a ton of meetings so I should get a lot done so that's nice. I haven't had 2 days in a row like that for awhile! My watermelon is getting close to ripe so I think I'll pick it this weekend. I have never grown them before how do I know when it's ready?

Miki, better than I expected.  I kind of, overcooked the first batch of wings, using the preset setting.  The second batch, I took out earlier, and only cooked the tater tots for half the time.

Here’s the one he got me…

So far, it seems easier to clean, but, the back did get slightly hot, by the time I was done cooking the wings and tater tots.  Still cooler than trying to use the oven.

Today, I made garlic toast in it, using the preset setting…just a bit crispier than we like…so next time, I will turn it off a little earlier.

Seriously, for the price, I think it was worth it.

Annarchy, that is a lot like mine. I thought when you said air fryer it was just that an air fryer. It does everything. It's great that you really like it.

I have the Emeril Lagasse one. And it does everything. I've had mine for about 4 or 5 years. I love it. Once you get the hang of it for timing foods, you will be using that a lot. Well worth the money. I have even done rotisserie chicken in it. Worked great for that. GS uses it all the time for his single serve pizzas.

Yours is bigger than mine but works for me perfect.

Well today did not go as planned.
Plan was--Take Peanut Butter to groomer, stop at doc, do some grocery shopping--with or without my friend. Tried to call friend 4 times with no answer. Went to house and couldn't get a response at door. Called her daughter, so she could get someone over to check on her. I went to Post office and on the way out I see coolant dripping fast from front corner of jeep. Drove one block to mechanic's and left jeep. Peanut and I walked home.
This is how God works in my life. If I hadn't gone to check on friend, I wouldn't have stopped at Post office first and wouldn't have seen coolant dripping. Would have been about 12 miles away when it overheated or whatever.
At least in my life, everything seems to happen for a reason!

I did walk first, this morning.
Hopefully, we will pick up jeep later.
DH had to go to hospital at 9 am to have PICC line put in for IV antibiotics which will start tomorrow, I think.

And my friend is fine. Her phone keeps messing up. Her daughter has said she will buy friend a new phone for over 6 months. I think she is going to do that soon!

Miki, God does work in mysteries ways. Glad you were close enough to be able for you and Peanut to walk home.  Everything worked out well. Glad your friend was ok.

Annarchy, I like the French doors on that stove. Mine is the one that the door just drops down from top to bottom. They didn't have the French doors when I got mine. You will find yourself using it a lot.

Washed towels this morning and emptied dishwasher. Then went out to garden. Seems the crook neck squash is making a comeback. Picked enough squash for dinner tonight or tomorrow, 3 cucumbers that I thought those plants were done, and more okra. Tomatoes are now getting ripe so will be working with those soon. I want to try out that new squash so might just cook some of that tonight and just get the other ready for freezer for now.

GS is in kitchen working on the 10lbs of hamburger he bought. He's cooking some up to eat now and to take with him for dinner at work. That stuff he bought in the tube is 27% grease. I will be cleaning kitchen up this evening. He's not too good at cleaning up the grease. But he will learn.

 that all goes smoothly for Micki's dear husband and that he is home and resting well.

I went to the house and moved more boxes from one side of the room to the other. Sigh. There really isn't much more I can do there until they get the bathroom vanities and toilets out of the bedrooms. They are supposed to bring a dumpster next week. I've picked out the paint, carpet, floor covering, met with the cabinet lady, ordered the kitchen appliances and got the garage nearly empty. Not much more I can do. I even emailed the old hag from BOA and gave her an update. :engel-smilies-10-1:  I called the contractor yesterday and asked about the delay. Turns out they are waiting for inspectors and permits from my city. Crap, another bureaucracy to jump through hoops for. He said he would keep after them.

Lawn guy stopped by and sprayed the weeds that are continuing to pop up in the bed in front of the house. We are planting shrubs in two weeks come hell or high water (oh dear, no more high water please.) And I paid him for the month of August. I'll be glad when that is over. He is a great guy but it's costing me a fortune in lawn care. He doesn't know I'm moving yet. I suspect he is figuring it out. He knows all about the rotten neighbor next door and some of the things he has said and done to me. Same neighbor called the police on him once because he started mowing 15 minutes too early one morning. Anyway, the last time he mowed, that neighbor wanted to get and estimate from my guy to mow his lawn. The nerve! My guy told him he is too backed up to take on new customers. The nerve!

I think I'm going to Indiana next week. I have two garages full of stuff to go through and it isn't getting done while I'm sitting over here. I have been hesitant to go anyplace because of shrub planting/watering. It either gets done in two weeks or it can wait until next spring. If I'm even there then.

Also, I called an Indy lawyer today to start the process of getting son on the TOD for the house over there. We are having a phone consultation on the 8th. If I'm over there then, I can go sign some papers at his office and he can have my signature on file. Or the secretary said I could sign from Cleveland and have it notarized here and faxed over to them. Sounds easy enough...:008Laughing: By then son will be on all of my earthly possessions when I die. I will have done it all except getting the death certificate. I suppose he can handle that.

Annarchy nice air fryer!

Miki glad you were close to the mechanic and could walk home.

Littlesister glad your garden is still producing for you. My squash have slowed down a lot but the tomatoes are going gangbuster. I have to get outside and harvest more today mine are everywhere

Jeepers you have a great handle on all the paperwork. Glad you're making a trip to Indy and hopefully when you come back the permits will all be in place.

My friend will get here today they got a late start yesterday, that's just how it goes when you and your parent are moving (her mom who is driving her here is moving back to IA) so they are both in between. I am as ready as I can be. . Hopefully she will be comfortable in her new space.

Miki, hope all went well with your DH and the antibiotics heals him up fast.

Jeepers, have a safe trip to Indy.  Have some fun while you are there. Don't work too hard and wear yourself down.

Becca Anne, I have a lot of ripe tomatoes again today. So will be going out later to pick them.

Got up this morning, got dressed, made bed, then walked into kitchen to make a cup of coffee. My bad. I opened the fridge and milk was everywhere. So, first thing I had to do was clean up the fridge. Seems GS put a carton of milk on its side, and it leaked out all over the shelf and down to the next shelf. Had to pull everything out and clean out the fridge. What a mess. Milk on the bottom of a lot of things. Dripping on floor as I was pulling stuff out. But it is all clean now.  I will have to let him know when he wakes up not to put those cartons of milk on their side after he opens one.

So that is how my morning went. I did get my coffee. Just later in the day.

My next-door neighbor called me yesterday evening and said her DH is back in hospital. I just saw him the other day sitting out in front yard reading the newspaper. He is very frail and weak. Found out he has a huge ulcer that is bleeding, and he is too weak and frail to do surgery. It is blocking his intestines. They said if they operate that more than likely in his condition it will kill him and suggested that she bring him home and make him comfortable. Don't think he will make it through this time. He is the one that had throat cancer and had to use a feeding tube for a couple of years and ended up on dialyzes for a while as well. And an issue with his jawbone that kept bleeding and he would have to go to ER to stop the bleeding. They were trying to get him stronger for surgery for that as well. But he just keeps getting weaker. Praying for the family and hoping that somehow, he will get through this. He has been through a lot, and I know he is suffering now. So right now, I am on house sitting duty for her. Her GS lives with her, but she doesn't trust that he will close and lock door when he leaves for work, so I go over to make sure door is locked and just keep a general eye on the house for anything unusual. We are in a safe neighborhood so far so hoping nothing happens in that respect.

He might want to get better, and he might be ready to move on to what's next.  :sigh:

I have a friend whose wife moved into hospice yesterday.  Even if you've been on the outs with someone, and they've had some pretty rough times, and even when you've been expecting it, this is gut-twisting news.  My heart aches for them, as I know your heart aches for your neighbors.

Remember to take pictures of things like that before you clean them, so GS can see the results of his actions.  Otherwise your statements could sound like the grownups in a Peanuts cartoon:  wahwah...wawahwawahh.

I don't think GS meant for that to happen.  It was the paper carton of milk, and he didn't know it would leak. The top was on tight but on those cartons, they still leak around the cap.

Sorry to hear about your friend going into hospice Ambergris. Seems there is just too much death happening these days.  I have known these neighbors for over 40 years. In our younger days we used to take trips together. Florida as he has a house there and the last one being in New Jersey to the casinos. After the last one my DH had a stroke and then my neighbor had some issues and surgery. She did good from all that but seems their health was going down as well as my DH's health. So, we just didn't make any trips anymore. They haven't even been to the house they own in Florida now in several years. They have someone taken care of it for them and they rent it out at times.

Walked first this morning.
Picked up friend and we dropped off my Peanut Butter pup at the groomer.
Went to Aldi and Walmart.
Then to Dollar General and auto parts store.
lunch at Burger King and sprang Peanut from lockdown.
Waiting for infusion company to deliver DH's IV antibiotics now.  Home health will be here to get him started in the morning and then it will be up to me to get it done.  They will monitor him once a week.
Bible study in a bit.
Too busy a day for me!

I don't recall if I already posted about this or not.

Milk thistle really works!  Peanut's numbers were off the charts and she is back to normal with not drinking water all the time and not peeing every hour and a half.  She has gained back the weight she had lost and her hair is turning brown again as she had gone completely white over the past year or so.  I have actually seen this work and wanted to share!

Glad Peanut is doing much better. Milk thistle is good for people also. I take it. Good for the liver.

I fried up that Tromboncino squash. Either the guy at the market told her wrong about letting it get up to 5 or 6 ft. long was wrong or it just doesn't have much of a taste to it. It's not like yellow squash. It's not bad but I am going to do what the guy in another neighborhood told my neighbor. Pick it at about one or two feet long. So, I will be picking it tomorrow. There are several of them on the vines. Not going to can these as I don't know enough about them. But if needed I will freeze or just as they said leave them on the counter as they last a year like that. Seems to me it would be something you would put in a root cellar. Kitchen would be too hot. So, going to put on dining room table. Going to research this squash more for best storage and recipes. My neighbor grilled hers and she said it had no taste. I fried mine and it had some taste but not a lot. It definitely does not taste like yellow squash but more like a very mild butternut squash. This is a learning experience for sure.  But a fun one.

Well…..

Yesterday & today were interesting.  You remember the Gas company replaced all their lines, broke the waterline, flooded our yard, broke the sewer at the neighbors house….they had to have all their plumbing replaced and because of asbestos, 90% of their walls…?

The fiber optic company, first, while starting their project, broke the main water line, by our ‘new’ water system, when I was in TX.  Now, they are finally getting our street done.

Yesterday, a truck pulling a machine… using a pressure water sprayer & a suction tube.  They dug at the new gas line markers.  (The city, BOLDLY, spray painted their lines, the day before. Lol, I don’t blame them.).  The workers, began doing their thing with the machine, finishing up out on our main street, then went around the block, up the alley/easement towards our house.  All good & well…they got their holes dug, and put orange cones over the holes…. You can clearly see the gas line!
IMG_7946.jpeg

Yeah, we went out, removed the cone to get that picture…

Then, the driver, pulling the machine, that lets them dig the holes, continued down the easement…. Apparently not paying attention to the utility pole next to our yard!  There’s a brick wall on the other side, which, Pete, the owner of the house, spent months, building a berm next to the wall, ‘to keep people from hitting it’. before he passed.  Here’s a picture I took of the easement, after the left, you can see “Pete’s” berm. (We’ve seen people hit that pole, so many times….:grinning-smiley-044:  Take a picture, for insurance, JIC…)

IMG_7941.jpeg

He tried to back up the ‘trailer’ and failed….several times…ending up against our fence, trying to get it out….  It wasn’t going to happen, with his backup skills….
IMG_7928.jpeg

IMG_7930.jpeg

The driver un-hitched it and drove away….they ran into my fence many times trying to get it past the pole, which wasn’t going to happen, with the way he was driving.

The back hoe operator came, gently lifted it up, moved it and then cleared the pole.

IMG_7933.jpeg

Today, we were anticipating, they would break the water line, again, but, they were very efficient in running the fiber optic sheathing down the easement.  Filled the holes, smoothed it out, and went down the street to do the next section.

Seriously, I want the job, the last guy had.  He was pressure spraying the street, to remove the excess dirt.  He looked like he really liked his job… in the 100+° day we were having, I can imagine.

Annarchy seems like they didn't design that area very well for access. Good idea taking photos. Hopefully they can finish the rest of the work without incident

Littlesister oh no that makes such a mess. So sorry to hear about your neighbor's husband.

Miki so glad Peanut has improved so much!

Ambergris so sorry about your friend's wife.

My friend arrived safe and sound. She is settling in and I am very relieved and happy she is here. Went out to the garden tonight and picked a whole huge bowl of tomatoes so I'll have to process those (will freeze and make into sauce later)

When pressure canning any type of "winter squash" the general recommendation is to cube it.

From this description it sounds like you could can it using the procedures for winter squash.

Quote

Selecting, Preparing and Canning Vegetables

Pumpkins and Winter Squash - Cubed

Procedure: Wash, remove seeds, cut into 1-inch- wide slices, and peel. Cut flesh into 1-inch cubes. Boil 2 minutes in water. Caution: Do not mash or puree. Fill jars with cubes and cooking liquid, leaving 1-inch headspace.
