  1. With this much dysfunction [mental health issues], best to step out of the equation. Seems like you're doing the right thing. It's hard tho, to think of turning family business over to strangers. But.... likely nothing short of that will bring you a sane life again. MtRider
  2. The cheese cloth will probably stick to the peppers like crazy. Um...let's see -- food safe screening????? Do you have any material like, netting? A polyester-type rather than cotton. You'd be looking for something not-water-absorbing. Trying to think of an expedient option..... y'know, I'd try parchment paper before I tried cheese cloth. I just don't think you'd get the peppers OFF the cheese cloth. Poke holes in the parchment paper between the peppers and know you'll be drying a bit longer than normal. That's all I can think of right now. MtRider
  3. Sea views? MtRider [....sounds wonderful! And good helpers!!!]
  4. MtRider is piling all the squirt guns on the floor. There are four SUPER SOAKERS!
  5. :balloons: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MADISON! MtRider
  6. MtRider finally wanders up to the Porch Swing ......and hey, there's Drumrunner! And he's got his tardy slip all written out. Wow, you've been having a time of it, huh? Liked point #10. Welcome back!
  7. MtRider is rummaging around in the Sunporch closet...trying to see what mischief....fun we can have. MtRider [ Have fun, Cat. ]
  8. (((((ANewMe)))))))) Sounds like a .......er, challenging time! Hope you can calm down now and just settle in. MtRider [..glad you're back! ]
  9. OK....so this thread is not finished yet! We don't have the ending to the story. How is she? Did the truck work out well. Did they get everything packed and now, unloaded? Does she have Internet yet? MtRider
  10. Since we're all preppers, natural methods that can be sustained long after the chemical methods are unavailable..... YES! This is a skill set that prepper gardeners NEED! MtRider [...matched for sulfer and DOG BISCUITS for bone meal????? That's a new one on me! Ahem....don't tell my dog! ]
  11. Before the hybrid corn...the 'knee-high' was accurate. During my childhood, I saw the shift occuring in my father's fields. We were always amazed by the changes in corn ...and farming in general...during those years. Course now some of us question whether ALL of those changes were worth the price. But increased yeild globally is a good thing for world hunger and the wallets of the farmers. If only one didn't have to worry about GMO's and such. MtRider [....what ever happened to whats-his-name and his method of natural-but-slow improvement with peas?]
  12. Wasn't that part of the curse after the Garden of Eden? I'm also one that loves to weed. More so, the detail weeding of freeing tiny baby plants from the onslaught of unwelcome neighbors crowding in. I recently spent time in the onion bed. We're back in our own garden this year and the battle with the root-spreading grass and wild rose has been a constant problem here. So....trying to discern which is tiny onion and which is grass....harder than most. But my fingers usually can tell quite well. [Onion is thick, succulant plant and grass is just a 'leaf' type] But I spent almost two hours and didn't know the time had passed. .....until I tried to stand up. Oye! I know what you mean, Wink! MtRider [....gardening used to be a LOT more fun when it didn't hurt so much.... ]
  13. I'm doing vertical gardening a bit this year. In fact, some of our consternation about dismantling the straw bale garden was that we had some soda bottle vertical gardens attached to the perimeter chain link sections. All that had to be moved to get the well pump truck access. So if anyone wants to do this, take a long-range look at where you might attach your vertical plants so they won't be disrupted. Fortunately, DH and I were able to carefully pick up that 10' section and set it upright with no bother to the soda bottles. If we'd have had a lot of them, as I'd hoped to do, we might not have been able to even lift that section. Any container garden, even hay/straw bales, are somewhat portable. Sometimes, that is a great advantage....as we recently experienced first hand. Thanks so much for this FREEBIE, Jeepers!!! MtRider
  14. Important tips, y'all. Using different textures with puree, dehydrate, etc is great way to get variety, Mother. Puts a new twist on the same few things you can eat. I have a good friend with mega-allergies and finally, this much later in life, she has narrowed down a diet that makes her feel much better. She told me yesterday that she makes savory [not the sweet kind] crepes. She adds water to garbonzo bean flour. That's it. Then fills the crepe with whatever she and her DH are allowed to eat. Give her a good platform for variety. Fresh spinach or other greens, puree a veggie or fine chop it, meat they can eat, etc. I have NO idea if DD or CGA or Mother or anyone can use garbonzo beans but I'd never heard of using just a bean flour for a simple 'bread' product. MtRider [....options are to be greatly valued, especially post-Hooey ]
  15. So the goats milk should be acceptable to her system if you spin the cream out, CGA? One more thing to do in your busy life....cleaning a cream separator. Heard that's quite a job. But yeah, then it has a lot less calorie count. MtRider [..pray that God gives you the wisdom AND STRENGTH/ENERGY for each hurdle with DD ]
  16. Bet folks are surprised these days to hear of an honest person ...more yet one who bothered to get involved enough to track down the owner. Nice to give folks a shock now and then. MtRider [...good for you, AH! ]
  17. I second the idea of recording these meals that you've found work. For DD and for many others who suffer cuz they've no idea what to do... New career, CGA? In your "spare time", of course! MtRider
  18. I don't even bother getting a fishing license. DH is our fisherman. MtRider
  19. Thanks for the review, ladies. I've been eyeballing this stuff...as the price of meat goes UP. DH and I need protein. Might consider this. MtRider [...and mebbe go fishing tonite ]
  20. Yeah, it's one thing to slide backwards into "Walton's Mountain" but....I really would rather not go all the way back to "Little House on the Prairie. But watch out for your buttons on the wringer/washers! {sigh} I can't believe modern women are reversing direction on such things. I my dump-it-in-and-forget-it washer!!! I remember our whole family gathered around to watch my mom's first automatic washer. She would NEVER want to go back to even the wringer washer...out on the lean-to porch...winter/summer....heating water on the stove inside.....lifting heavy wet overalls and sheets..... Oh...I get WHY we might have to reverse back....I just don't like it. MtRider [Guess I got one of the last without the NEW AND IMPROVED UPDATES....sheeeesh! ]
  21. Poor OutOftheOrdinary. You've had quite a time of this. I hope by buying higher than you'd hoped, you will get quality in things that you need to get rid of the rash! For others who might be looking, the Lehman's catalog has a new version of the old MANUAL James washer. I believe they also sell a wringer washer. Lehman's is one of the more expensive ways to obtain merchandise tho.... My folks bought me the 'cheaper' line of Kenmore/Sears. Can't remember the name of that line. It has been very good for several years now. Has the dials and options. No electronic doodads. MtRider
  22. Sounds like a wonderful upgrade, SueC!!! The packing isn't fun...exhausting! But it should be worth it. I want a rumpus room toooooo! Ocean views? And squash court? Wow...you've got a resort! MtRider
  23. Can I piggy-back a similar question? Jelly that turns ...like wisps of white throughout....What is it and is it OK or NOT OK??? Keeps happening with store-bought grape jelly. MtRider
