The opioids of the masses.  TV, now internet.  Alcohol, tobacco, weed, sex.  Never mind whether you're going to have a roof over your head in two months or supper in two weeks.  Weed is available now and there's a check coming in a week.  Don't worry.

There was a cartoon that came out during my teens.  It had the Cheshire cat vanishing, but you know his grin stayed visible for a long time afterward.  In the cartoon, the body was labeled "information" and the grin was labeled "everything's fine."  Well here, the body is labeled "reality down the road" and the grin is labeled "sit home and be placid right now."

Well judging from shortages being reported for gardening seeds, potting soil, etc......not everyone is wearing the Cheshire cat's grin.  The rest of us are going to garden, and whatever else we can to to ward off or mitigate the REALITY DOWN THE ROAD!

By the way,

81,782 China
80,589 Italy
80,021 US

BUT China's figures are acts of fantasy.

Italy has roughly the same population as California and New York combined.

Well THOSE numbers aren't good.  But considering our population...we're huge.  And assuming China might have some missing pages to their statistics???? :scratchhead:  Cuz they're huge too.

On a lighter note:  Anyone like odd history lessons?  This is about how our modern day medical masks [and the industrial 'dust' ones] were invented and evolved:

This is really a sad reality.  My pastor just called a while ago.  We are going to have a bucket sitting at the door with someone sitting just inside the doors and on Sunday from 10 am to 12 am we will have a drive through to drop our ties into.  Our church is small and the money is needed to pay bills. We still need to keep the church going with or without the congregation being able to attend. Also he is working on having church services by way of Face Book.  He will let us know when they get it set up. though I have been watching preaching on U-Tube and TV. That would be good to have our pastor having church service through face book. We had closed down last Sunday and this Sunday coming up but now it will be longer and he doesn't know when we can open.  To many elderly folks.

Our neighborhood and some other ones are on a bear hunt.  All the neighbors are putting bears in the windows and people walking by hunt the windows for the bears. So I have one in my living room window.  Also have a lighted cross in the window. Where's waldo anyone.  Gives the kids something to do while out of school. Bear hunting.

First death of infant in connection with coronavirus reported in the US

From CNN’s Hollie Silverman

A Chicago baby is the first infant death in the US associated with coronavirus, Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said Saturday.

"There has never before been a death associated with COVID-19 in an infant. A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of death," Ezike said. "We must do everything we can to prevent the spread of this deadly virus. If not to protect ourselves, but to protect those around us."

An investigation into the cause of death is underway, Ezike said.

The death of a child younger than one year with coronavirus has previously been reported in China. That child had a pre-existing condition.

I keep checking that Florida map ....scoot it over to see how many on Maui, specifically.  :sigh:   The number keeps climbing.  20 by now.  I know that's still a tiny percentage of the population but.....

CO is climbing....mostly our cities.  Some counties have none.

Good luck.  My county had 17 acknowledged cases yesterday, plus however many got added today.

Man on the news refused to let his 21 year old son (and two buddies) in the house after the kids spent a week partying on the beach in Texas.  The man had his elderly parents in the house.  He'd packed the kid's car with cash and groceries.  Told them to pee in the bushes, take the car, and get on back to college.  They were NOT setting foot in the house.  I do not blame him a bit.  He'd spent the week pleading for the kid to come home to no avail, you see.  I can hear those boys' voices now, can't you?

Miki, he said his case was pretty mild so he isn't in the hospital. I really like the album's Running On Empty and The Pretender. He has a new song coming out called A Little To Soon but I haven't heard any preview yet. He's 71.

Knowing that would keep me from going to the hospital!

There is promising research out of John's Hopkins that treating someone with PLASMA from someone who survived COVID would help them recover very quickly. I sure hope they are able to start doing this to the general population.

Illinois update:

Public Health Officials Announce 461 New Cases of Coronavirus Disease

30th Mar, 2020

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) today reported 461 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois.  Eight new deaths are also being reported, including the death of an incarcerated man from Stateville Correctional Center.

  • Cook County: male 50s, male 60s, female 60s, female 70s
  • DuPage County: male 60s
  • Kendal County: female 60s
  • Will County: male 50s, male 60s

Additionally, 12 men who were incarcerated at Stateville are now hospitalized, including several requiring ventilators.  There are 77 more incarcerated individuals with symptoms who are isolated at the facility.  Eleven staff are also being isolated.

The Illinois Department of Corrections is taking a number of steps to control the spread of COVID-19 in its correctional centers.  Staff who work with individuals in isolation and quarantine, as well as in the health center, are wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE) and all staff are wearing some PPE.  Staff are also having their temperature checked daily as they enter the facility.

Correctional centers with a confirmed case are placed on lockdown, which means there is no movement around the facility except for medical care.  Incarcerated individuals who show symptoms are being tested.

Clark, Crawford, Marion, Randolph, and Saline counties are now reporting cases.  Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 5,057 cases, including 73 deaths, in 52 counties in Illinois.  The age of cases ranges from younger than one to 99 years.

For all personal protective equipment (PPE) donations, email PPE.donations@illinois.gov.  For health questions about COVID-19, call the hotline at 1-800-889-3931 or email dph.sick@illinois.gov.  Medically trained professionals able to volunteer are asked to sign up at www.illinoishelps.net.

Here is an interesting statistical chart.  It gives Deaths Per Millions of People ...per country.  Takes into account countries like US being the "Leader of the Pack"   (oldie song, y'know)

And of course we all believe China's reported stats....    The stats used are obviously from a few days ago cuz don't match Ambergris' numbers for today.   Still , it's something to consider.  Breathe!
