Mt_Rider
Thank you, Ambergris. But I was just about to post that.....You're SICK! Don't worry about this until you feel better! MtRider for clear diagnosis, feeling better, fever goes to normal, chills go away, appetite comes back and good food miraculously appears so she doesn't have to prepare it. [show that part to son, LOL] 2 Link to comment
Jeepers
Ambergris, I'm really concerned about you. When I had my crud in January I had the chills really bad too. Even without a fever. Also loss of appetite and bad nausea. It seemed to last forever. No respiratory issues though. 1 Link to comment
TheCG
12 hours ago, Midnightmom said: If I remember correctly, the problem with putting people on ventilators has to do with maintaining the correct pressure of the air flow so that you don't "blow out" the capillaries causing irreparable damage to the patient. The other problem is that people on ventilators are highly susceptible to secondary infections. 1 Link to comment
Ambergris
My covid test came up negative. Guess what? They're supposedly only 65% or 70% accurate for the negatives. That's why you have to have two negatives to be considered "clear." Jeepers
I expect another rise in cases around here starting about June 1st. Our governor is opening hair cutting businesses and restaurants etc. on May 15th. At first they said May 12th. It's a slow open though. Restaurants will still have to practice some social distancing with service people wearing a mask. Also limited number of people allowed in at one time. They said you might have to wait in your car until you are seated. No way would I go to a restaurant this soon. It isn't necessary for me. Especially with carry out available. The hair places are doing the same thing. Wait in your car until called. Cutters are to wear a mask and it's up to the salon if the client has to mask up. They will just have to work around the mask ear pieces. I'm torn over getting my hair cut. It needs it so bad and is getting on my last nerve. I have a week to think about it. Ugh. I wish they would offer parking lot cutting. Of course there are probably government rules and regulations against that too. Might not be as sanitary as a virus filled salon. I'm assuming the speciality stores will open back up then too. Nothing I need there either. I'm going to do another supply run before things start opening up again. Hopefully I can miss the second wave of it passing through. 4 Link to comment

Mt_Rider
Argh! Wildfires! Folks will be needing N95 ...not surgical, the REAL masks....for a different reason. This was the reason I had a supply for decades ......SMOKE. I can attest that the N95 do a very good job at filtering out smoke...[and dust, in my case]. Not the off-gassing of fire tho... Philosophizing time: ....it has always bothered me when multiple challenges begin to add up. The "And Then This Happens" phenomena. I do well with the first few things and then.....at some undefined point, the NEXT Thing Happens and I'm . Anyone else relate? So far, due to the nature of being prepared and being skilled in low-expectation living, COVID has been worrisome in more of a diffused global sense. Obviously not having our income tied to a lot of employment really helps! With numbers low on Maui and our rural area.....and my elderly folks firmly tucked in at home.....and DH and I risking only a little with his 2-wk trips to grocery.... I haven't felt stressed on this. But.....I can't deny some low level rumble of anxiousness. I wonder about friends and extended family taking chances. I wonder when our area might see some shortages that could affect us. I'm concerned about any real NEED to go to doc or ER.....should a situation occur. So obviously I've got more concern going on under the surface. Slowly, that can cause irritation like a small rock in your shoe. Speaking of shoes, I think I'm living a bit wary......waiting for "the other one to drop".....know what I mean? Cuz I know this has the potential to go from .5 to 60 in an instant. Hopefully not. Didn't have a harsh case with ventilator, etc. A month later, he passed away. Wellllll..... at upper 90's, your time can be up at any point. Any virus would wear you down. There's been a couple stories about people over 100 who got COVID and survived. I get a smile from those. Ya just never know. MtRider 1 1 Link to comment

Ambergris
Thank you. The cough is back, but I think I only got one round of fever yesterday. While the cough is one of those things that does not permit any inhalation at all once it gets going, this pineapple juice is quite effective on it. Yes, their grandpa. He liked having a three-generation membership in the local Legion Hall. While I didn't hear a lot of stories, I didn't have to hear them to know he'd been there, done that. 1 Link to comment
Ambergris
REPOST: In case anyone wants to see this comparison again and not have to dig so hard for it: In the 2017-18 flu year, about 20,000,000 people in the US tested positive. About 800,000 were hospitalized for flu or flu-related complications. About 61,000 people died of the flu. In the 2018-19 flu year, about 16,500,000 people in the US tested positive. About 490,560 people were hospitalized for it, and about 34,000 died of it. This last number might have been as low as 26,000 or as high as 52,000, but it was probably around 34,000. The current flu season (Oct 1 to April 4) is technically over, but most states are still reporting positive flu test results (really?), so it looks like we're having an extended flu year. The expected range of deaths was set before the season began at 24,000 – 62,000, but now everyone expects to see a final figure between 40,000 and 62,000--except for the people who are talking about higher numbers. (There are also people who are insisting that the flu numbers are freakishly low this year, but they do not show where their facts come from, or they cite sources that do not show where their facts come from.) I'm definitely going to have to remember pineapple juice. I had the cough which was all EXHALE in Jan/Feb..... NASTY! It scares those around you once they realize you haven't breathed in for a while. And the orchestra of NOISES that come squawking and squeaking thru the bronchial tubes.....aiiiieeeee! Sometimes sounds like you should have died yesterday! Sheeesh! Hang in there....this too, shall pass. Will juice from Dole canned pineapple work? MtRider 3 Link to comment
Ambergris
I don't know how Dole would work. Citrus from metal cans does things to my mouth, like cracking the corners of my lips, so I only drink it from plastic or glass jars. I like the Lakewood brand, although I don't pay double for their organic version. When they go on BOGO, I stock up. Two bucks and small change for a quart? Can't beat it. Great Value costs more. The glass also gives it a REALLY long shelf life. 2 1 Link to comment

Littlesister
Trying to catch up on reading post. A bit hard to do. I have been so busy with DH and right now things are slowing down a bit for now anyway. Ambergris, glad to hear your test was negative and praying it is correct. Sorry to hear that your mom had to relocate because of those fires. Praying also that things for her will work out and she can go back home soon and all will be well. I will have to check on the pineapple juice to see if they have it with no added sugar. That sounds good if it works for coughs like that. Homesteader, hoping and praying that things work out for your mom. These are all trying times for each and everyone of us. This virus has played a very large roll in disrupting everyone's lives for years to come in some cases. 2 1 Link to comment

Homesteader
Another interesting chart. Germany's figures look strange ....... A UK doctor has a daily update on world stats, and lots of good info. He mentioned about 3 weeks ago that Germany was counting the deaths as what the original disease was. If they had diabetes and died WITH CV-19, the death certificate stated they died of diabetes. Maybe that's the skew in their numbers. Gotta watch those Germans. 4 Link to comment
