Mother
Thank you, Ambergris and LS. The GD is pretty miserable with it. Something I didn't know about the testing though. She will have to have two negative tests before she can considered as being over it. She is very close to her kids and is more worried about them (and missing them) than about herself. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. Hugs 4 Link to comment
Louis1
Interesting to me how closely we compare to Western Europe, even with the inflated numbers from NYC. Germany/Italy/France/Spain/UK with combined population of 324 million has 742,823 cases. US with population of 331 million has 667,801 cases. NY and NJ make up right at 300K of the totals so about 45% of all US cases .......... ain't geography weird? 4 Link to comment

Cowgirl
So. Our employer has issued each of us "essential employees" with ONE disposable N95 mask (the non-respirator version). Our employer has NOT issued us anything with which to sanitize the masks for re-use. Of course, we do not have access to hospital methods of sanitizing them. Even a bottle of spray peroxide would be better than nothing. But any mask care is up to us. I am pondering how I will sanitize mine at work. I suppose I could take it home each night, spray it down, hang it to dry, and return with it each workday. Hmmm. These things are like gold these days, so I want to be careful not to harm it. 👀 3 Link to comment

Becca_Anne
Do not spray N95 masks with anything it will destroy it. We've been researching the ways to sanitize and the only safe home way is to put in the oven 158 degrees for 30 minutes not touching any metal is a safe way to sanitize. Or the Battelle hydrogen peroxide steam system which your employer would have to implement. All other methods will either not work or destroy the masks. You can also if you have enough masks reserve one mask per day you work and let sit for 7 days in a paper bag and then re-use. I've been looking into this for my workplace. 3 2 Link to comment

Mt_Rider
I have always put my N95 in the strong UV sunshine here. Hang in on the clothesline. Don't leave it there for days or that same strong sunshine will degrade the materials. Research coming out that virus is sensitive to UV. MtRider 3 Link to comment

Mt_Rider
Ambergris, does the data tell if the # of tests "conducted" includes multiple tests for a single person? They are saying that they need 2 negatives in a row to be let out of quarantine. Too bad we can't all do a home test to see if we'd been exposed at some point.... Rather not be a number at the CDC but.... MtRider ....raw stats are so hard to decipher sometimes. Link to comment

Mt_Rider
So, Dogmom. My long ago Without Warning 4th of July scenario would be changed. The new one would be: You're sitting with your family/friends watching 4th of July concert...anticipating fireworks...... Suddenly several people at once get up and start coughing. Sounds like they're trying to "hack up a lung" ! Then they shout "I'VE GOT COVID-19 AND NOW YOU ALL WILL HAVE IT TOOOOOOOO!" In the mood folks are working themselves into lately, I would not doubt this scenario could happen. MtRider ....be safe, especially those of us who are a bit more vulnerable to illness. 1 1 Link to comment
Jeepers
They cancelled the 4th. of July? Oh no they dint. That's G-sons birthday! . They WERE going to take him to Disney in Florida. Fireworks has be cancelled in northern Indiana too. Probably a lot of places. They aren't even allowing open air concerts. Not even small ones. Seems like they would want a little morale boosters. But then again, people get all liquored up and act the fool. 1 Link to comment
Homesteader
A dear friend of mine used to be a hospital administrator in NY. He has interesting insights. One of the scenarios is that the more 'probably' covid cases there are, the more of a kickback the state/hospital will receive when this is all said and done. Do I trust the numbers from the big cities? Not a chance. In my seven adjoining counties, there have been a total of THREE deaths from the virus. It is totally ridiculous that our governor just extended our stay at home until the END OF MAY. He's a flunkie from the school system, and was only kept in the district by the teacher's union. Then big money came in last year from outside so that he could topple a conservative governor with a $5 BILLION surplus. Honestly, I don't think the new governor has a clue on what to do and is waiting for all the other states to open so that he can come up with a plan (yes, they all plan to open before we do). I bet all that surplus disappears by the time he's done dishing it out to every liberal organization in our state. Did I mention that we're a tourist state and the majority of our revenue comes from tourism and dairy? What a great way to sink the battleship without a shot from the bow. Do I sound frustrated from ineptness? If it wasn't for my mom being locked down in a retirement center in the city, I could camp out on our homestead for months before anyone knew if we were alive or dead. 4 Link to comment
The WE2's
Our Governor just had a huge protest not only on the Capitol grounds but then a walk to the Governor's Mansion. They say he was there because when the Governor is there, the flag is flying....it was flying...and several people said they saw him pull back a curtain and look out. He's backed off somewhat, but the protest wasn't so much about the date but the mandatory testing and vaccines that he's a promoter of. People drove for hundreds of miles to be there to let him know we're up to your tricks! Also found out that the CDC said that Europe (?) refused a shipment of our swabs because they were found to be contaminated and weRE actually giving people the virus. Then a report from a major media source (WSJ?) where Italy said that 99% of the deaths that were reported as c19, was false reporting. And now they're telling us that "it might come back in the fall"? I'm sorry folks, every day I'm beginning to think this is a manipulation of our country from the enemies of our country. I know our President has no medical background and has tried to surround himself with experts...but since when do scientists know how to run a financial institution? Since when do non-elected people dictate to the elected...and since when do any of them dictate to the American Citizen? Sure glad he put a hold on immigration. Rant over!
