WormGuy
I missed one when I took it. I thought this would be fun for everyone and a learning tool maybe at the same time. Might make some want to try a few new dishes. John Link to comment
Annarchy
Ok, my "Southern" cooking is TexMex, so I am sure I missed most of them. A few wild guesses may have scored 2. Link to comment
MamaHill
I only know 6. Can't wait to see the answers... Great quiz!! Link to comment
Virginia
I think I know most of them, but have never heard of benne wafers. Baby talk for vanilla? My sister and I yesterday were saying that most old southern cooks used two spices, salt and pepper. I can remember when we first had garlic, it was bread and it was wonderful. We did use cinnamon at Christmas, of course. Link to comment
Fullpantry
I knew 6 for sure. Never heard of Benne wafers either??? Link to comment

Can't remember the exact recipe have it at home and I am at work. They were usually served with tea when people visited. And since I am suthern country girl I will let you guess how many I got correct. Link to comment
Midnightmom
Not sure I'd want to eat "Chitlin's and Maw" no matter which animal(s) they previously belonged to!!! Link to comment
Deerslayer
Pure Southern here I think it comes from being raised like I was!!! Really Country!!!! Link to comment

Cat
I got them *all* right??? OK... to be honest, I guessed on #1 because I never heard of them, but I figured a "wafer" would be seed-based here. #8 almost threw me, but it's a 50-50 chance. I guessed they were different, or it wouldn't be on the quiz. And we have Pimento cheese as a spread here, too, so I hoped it was the same thing. It is. Thanks, WG!! **Adding it to my list of dumb things I have to feel smart about...** Link to comment
snapshotmiki
9 right. Missed the first one. I'm from FL and raised "in the sticks". Link to comment
AMarthaByHeart
Got 8 right. I missed 1 and 8. Here we always eat chicken fried steak----never heard of country fried steak so evidently did not know what it was. Now WHAT is it? Always wanted to use that face, so I thought I would try it. Amishway Homesteaders
I got a ZERO on the test Guess you all know what I don't cook? Link to comment
themartianchick
I got 7 and I'm as northern as they come! However, my dad was raised in Florida, so we always had grits in the house. A few folks around here (southern transplants) still make corn bread in a cast iron skillet and although I don't eat pork, some of the markets around here sell all manner of pig parts! (I will never forget the first time I saw a freezer case full of pig heads! I was traumatized because they looked exactly like the pig puppets used on the Muppet Show. I was raised on their "Pigs In Space" skits.) Link to comment
Momo
I knew nine...missed the first one though. I guess 34 years in Bama is enough to make me a true southerner. Link to comment
Virginia
Seeing the post about pigs heads reminds me of the thime DD (about 7 or 8 then) saw me pull a baked chicken from the oven. She exclaimed, "Its a REAL chicken!". Don't know what she thought we had been eating fried. Link to comment
