I believe, without looking them up, that I know 7 conclusively.

I think I know most of them, but have never heard of benne wafers. Baby talk for vanilla?

My sister and I yesterday were saying that most old southern cooks used two spices, salt and pepper. I can remember when we first had garlic, it was bread and it was wonderful. We did use cinnamon at Christmas, of course.

:0327: I got them *all* right??? :0327:

OK... to be honest, I guessed on #1 because I never heard of them, but I figured a "wafer" would be seed-based here.

#8 almost threw me, but it's a 50-50 chance. I guessed they were different, or it wouldn't be on the quiz.

And we have Pimento cheese as a spread here, too, so I hoped it was the same thing. It is.

Thanks, WG!! :bouquet:

I got 7 and I'm as northern as they come! However, my dad was raised in Florida, so we always had grits in the house. A few folks around here (southern transplants) still make corn bread in a cast iron skillet and although I don't eat pork, some of the markets around here sell all manner of pig parts!

(I will never forget the first time I saw a freezer case full of pig heads! I was traumatized because they looked exactly like the pig puppets used on the Muppet Show. I was raised on their "Pigs In Space" skits.)

Seeing the post about pigs heads reminds me of the thime DD (about 7 or 8 then) saw me pull a baked chicken from the oven. She exclaimed, "Its a REAL chicken!". Don't know what she thought we had been eating fried.
